There's a list of common traits for each faction. While anyone can get these traits, some are more common in a particular faction. However, this list is not necessarily readily available on the wiki, nor is it really the first place someone might look. So I wanted to make a thing here for quick references for the factions and their common traits, as well as what the traits do.

Calm: +10% to Resist Debuffs

Charmer: +3 Charisma

Classically Trained: +10% All Accuracy

Confident: +2 Charisma, +10% Resist Debuffs

Driven: Morale Never Drops Below 50, +2 Resilience

Erudite: +3 Wisdom, +1 Resilience

Focused: +1 Quickness, Fortitude, Strength, +12% Prevent Craft Maintenance Points

Peacemaker: Gain Morale when ending ship encounters peacefully, lose morale when destroying ship.

Proud: +$1 Pay each level, Double Morale Penalty if not paid with rest of crew.

Sharp Witted: +25% Chance of Double EXP

Steady: Morale Loss Reduced by %50, +2 Fortitude, +5% Armor

Virtuous: +Wisdom% Chance to gain 3-5 Morale when patrolling.

So, uh, weird question, but... Does Brute cascade? Or is it just a single proc? I've seen some weird morale cascades when a dice pool with few contributors misses, and I'm wondering if that is caused by long Brute chains.

As far as I know, it can cascade.

I know for a while, merciless was a notable one that would cause a lot of problems with how common it was.

I thought merciless just triggered all at once? Brute's danger is that it can happen randomly on a bad roll.

True. Regardless, I don't know for sure, but I believe that Brute, if it causes someone with Brute to lose morale, can cause even more people to lose morale as a result.
