#Question about upgrading and buying new ships

Without upgrades don't expect a ship to be viable. A continuous stream of updates is best for your first ship, but it's often best to reserve 50% extra of the purchase price of the ship for immediate dry dock updates before trying to fly it in earnest
All the really good faction specific components can be $200-300k each so having a sold $2M in the bank beyond the purchase price will get you up to speed real good
Cargo bays, engines, hyperwarps, and bridges in particular can eat up a year and about $1.5M in dry dock upgrade time so you can queue that up, run some missions for funding, then tack on the officer annexes and weapons and utility components after
Yea I mean how much should I upgrade it?
like I only buy weapon locker and passenger cabin for my 1st ship
2nd ship 5k/6k/7k do I kit it out fully
when I probably will gonna buy a 3rd and final ship which is 8k/9k
You can do all the endgame stuff super safely in a 6k mass hull and zip around at twice the travel speed of a 9k so yeah that 3rd ship would be flexing
The first ship if it's a nice 5 officer / 30 crew hull I typically upgrade up to the point I can safely run missions in high danger quadrants so probably about $500k-$1M total investment for Weapons Locker 4, rank 4-5 guns at about $50k apiece, med bay upgrade, couple defense matrices at $80k each, fuel tanks for about $100k
Ah I see that makes sense. Never get to late game so I don't know that 6k is viable
Yeah 6k hull is the lightest that supports 7 officers and any hull with 6-7 officers can get the job done great
Out of all of this, definitely agree the most with having extra credits when buying a new ship, because you still have to pay for upgrading that new ship you buy.
Can't forget the many close calls that almost led to death spirals just because I almost didn't have enough credits to refuel because I went crazy on upgrades with little regards to my funding.
