Also to answer your questions. Spend your gold on your strongest hero, and then any leftover on your other heroes afterwards. As for your diamonds, pets or promo titan chests tend to be the best value for your diamonds.

Also, for who is the strongest hero, you should follow this rules:
Starting with Zato, your strongest hero will be your most expensive Warrior, because the x3 DPS is so strong
When you can afford Maddie, she is stronger than Cosette (however, there isn't a big difference), so you should swap to her
When you can afford lvl 1000 of Pingo, you'll see that Rangers get very big multipliers every 1000 levels, so you should swap to him, then to Rosabella and Davey when you can afford their level 1000
When you can afford Jayce, it's stronger than Davey (mostly because rangers scale x2 DPS every 40 levels from 1040 to 1960, and that's trash), so you should swap to him
Starting from that, you should almost always swap to your most expensive hero, and swap to a Ranger when it reaches another big boost, but having an eye on your next hero
