I wanna teach my dog some more tricks other than 'sit' and 'paw'. Can you give me some advice?

@finite olive Absolutely! Those are two very simple tricks and you should be able to teach both in a week. For sit you should lure your dog with a treat. You will need to put the treat very close to their nose and guide it back by their forehead until their butt touches the ground. Try and say "sit!" right before it happens but if you don't say it in time that is okay and still praise and reward. Once she gets the idea you will need to only praise and reward when you're not luring and you ask her to sit and she sits.

Because your dog is a puppy keep training sessions short. For dogs up to two months 15 minutes twice a day is a great way to start. After two months you can do up to 20 minutes and as soon as your dog is 2-6 months it can be time to do 30 minutes. Make sure to watch for signs of frustration as this is not an exact science. If you notice your dog gets frustrated take a break and try again later when she is calm. If you notice your dog gets frustrated a lot decrease your training times.

For paw they key is to wait before adding the command. You will hold your hand out with a treat in the other and wait until your dog puts their paw in your hand. Once they do that praise and reward. After they have done this and you believe that they understand the idea add a command. Right before they put the paw in your hand say "paw" and treat a high value reward.

Do not treat with food every time after your dog learns the command fully. Start offering other rewards such as attention or a good back scratch. If you treat with food every time your dog will always expect food and will not preform if you do not have it. Always mark the behavior with a "Yes!" or "Good Girl!" so that they understand what they did right. You can reward with treats, attention and toys if your dog is toy motivated.

What is the deference between a high and low value reward and why is it important? The difference between high and low valued rewards is how much your dog wants it. If your dog wants a treat a lot (boiled chicken, shredded cheese) then they will expect a high value reward very time! Try and use high value rewards for new tricks and lower value rewards (dog biscuits, peanut butter) for older tricks. High and low value rewards works for toy rewards and attention rewards too. Figure out what your dog likes best and what they will still work for so you get the best results!
