Well this is just my opinion but I generally enjoy el colossal more than the races anyway, and I know most people would not spend gems on the race anyway unless you are in a competitive team or high level players who have a lot of gems. Tho the point about the mythics is valid so it really didn't matter what you decide to spend gems on.
