@thorny shuttle doing the feeding event to secure a place in the top 5000 gets you 45 gems, then i am doing the dungeons which give you around 60 gems in a week as well. got lucky on the wheel after watching ads and i did a lot of surveys ^^

Wow, that's a lot of attempts. I gave up trying to breed it once I realized the book rewards would give me it. It's the hardest of the earth/magic epics to get. Tarzape+sparkwedge is good combination too. Would get it when trying to breed Rockantium as well.
