There are always two timers. The in game one that appears and then is within the News, that shows a timer that runs out before the second timer down the right hand side of the screen. This is to ensure that some players get enough time to log in to collect all their rewards.

Thanks @deep cloak , this was the first time I could really participate in the breeding event and I must say I find it very disappointing. Spend a lot of gems, but it just doesn’t pay off for a f2p player. No legendaries, so can’t even participate in the next phase.
