That's absurd. The shuffle is fake, this is well known, and I believe confirmed by SP. They use weighted probability to decide what you're going to get before you even select. When they flip everything over, I strongly suspect they weigh the probabilities of what they show you so that it's very likely that it'll be right next to you (assists with the illusion that you can follow the cards)
