Not at all. See the gorg progressive? It costed 69 gems at best collections. Chest are just annoying since you know you will ever get any while agonizing over the fact that other people are pulling diamond relics from bronze chests. The pain in knowing that I will never pull anything remotely lucky in this game is immeasurable. The less rng the better.

I spent 101 gems on Helgudin. Here’s what I did: for the first 4 nodes, aim to get 60% of the gold for the node then gem the node. Then go all out on the last node obviously. This is the first time I’ve done a multi-day progressive so who know if this applies to others, but I did some sanity check with Dori’s previous work and it seems to line up. Anyway, I’m not going for Olnir so if you end up trying this strategy, let me know how it goes. Thanks!

@formal glacier @eager compass In the past progressives and mazes had more smaller rewards, which included legendaries. Nowadays it is focused on getting on monster, ranked.
In the past progressives for example there were no chests, you would get an Epic, Legendary, Legendary, then the Event monster.
Same goes for 72h challenges with the card flips. Used to be helpfull (unfair) for lower level players to get some Legendaries.
But that is all gone now. My brother has started playing the game and struggles to get monsters..

@lethal iron its true that old format progressive and maze can give us more monster than nowadays & i also love collecting monster but the new and current format is WAY better than old one cause i prefer quality over quantity . in old format in one progressive we can get up to 5 monster consist of epic & L but old useless rank 0 monster and impossible to get the main monster without huge amount of geme even for rank 0 cause they put them mostly in 5th or 6th node . its apply the same for maze old format only give you egg at end mean only rank 0 monster .
The reason i said new format is better than old one is because :
New format progressive allow use to get main moster directly without waste & spend unecessary gem in nodes even for ranked one
Especially in maze they made huge good improvement by allowing us get high ranked new monster as f2p which is impossible before . also if you diligent enough you can get up to 2 monster at once (limited path + ranked new monsters as f2p ). So i find its good change and benefit more to player rather than lose .

Doesn't mess up anything, doesn't change timing. I usually do it this way so can put the 8hr interval at a more convenient time, just need to get timing right for change of nodes.

yes, making calculations harder, they will reduce amount of rewards getting by f2p players, and keep or increase prices like they always do

Not sure it saves anything if going for r0 need to do calculations, but effectively many skipped early to get boost, so early nodes cost more to get later nodes cheaper. And to get full use you have to wake up in night.

the best thing to do would gem the first node after 4 hours, gem chest 2 after 8 hours, gem scroll right away, gem 15 cells after 2 hours, gem 20 cells after 10 hours(then the boost scroll runs out), spend the remaining 3 days on 65 cells

you get a gold item every 1 hour 20 minutes, a food item every 2 hours, and hatch and breed every 8 hours(though you can't collect more than 6 gold, 4 food, 1 hatch and 1 breed at a time), so 8 hours
but while the boost scroll is active all that is halved
so 4 hours
though sometimes(not really often though) it can be a good idea to get 3 gold and 2 food before gemming which would mean 4 hours without boost scroll and 2 hours with
