I actually quite like the Butcher. Even if it’s lore is bad.
IMO I think it would have been better if maybe the Butcher had been a servant of the Sculptor and this was his reward for his service.
I still think Peter Roche joint some cult and helping the Sculptor in order to take vengeance on the people of Still Water and then being transformed into the Butcher would be way better lore than a stuffed Meathead comes alive.

Ok, so you guys were talking about it being an infection or affliction. Follow my logic here.
A vaccine is simply a shot of a disease but with the pieces broken up so your body can figure out how to fight it off. If the pieces in the vaccine are accidentally too strong the vaccine is actually just the illness being injected. Perhaps part of the ritual is intentional infection with the affliction, but in a minor enough dose that the Hunters can withstand it and build up an immunity to the sculptors. Sometimes the Hunter is too weak though, and it still fucks with their head making them evil and shit.
Secondarily, this could be why Meatheads happen. Babby isn't strong enough to withstand the affliction.
This would also fit with the discussion of water devils being blood worms that mutated after exposure to initiated blood.

Also I have a theory on who the father mentioned in the letter is. John Welch Jones. If we assume that the Asylum in Jackson is based on the Louisiana State Insane Asylum. Then he father must be former Superintended John Welch Jones. Who was also the father of the real Philip Huff Jones who was the assistant superintendent of the Louisiana State Asylum. John ran the asylum from 1874-1888. In this universe John May have been a former leader of the AHA which is why Philip would openly speak to him about it.

I know the lore says it starts from a plague. People start turning after they die. Then the hunter cooperation sends in the hunters to take care of the problem. My theory is that the dark sight is not a skill that you can learn but something you get from your bloodline. Which it starts from people that are half-turned.

At first I thought she become one of the bosses(the shadow cosumes her and she fully turned), but the end it said Shadow take the dark away not Shadow takes me away.
Then I relies the shadow could be meaning one the hunter not the plague. The hunter come for devil, discover the protagonist who now became the dark(half-turned with the dark sight). Takes her away and trains her into a hunter

Because the metal muzzles the grunts wear do not look anything like Witch’s Bridles and they were not common in the New World.
I think a more likely explanation is these were people who started to turn and those around them put these metal muzzles on them to try and prevent them from biting people.

I have read through some older messages and i still don‘t quite grasp the „birth“ of an immolator.
After reading the comments and the lore pages my understanding is that either immolators are very religious people that have suffered unfairly and are now cleansing the world with hate fuled fire from purgatory.

Lynch uses Hindu practices to enter and exit magic circles, but at the same time offers blood sacrifices as bait to entities, what’s going on here can likely be rationalized with time, but so can religion. I think the devs are intentionally mixing ritualistic practices from different cultures to throw us off. Surprised we haven’t done anything from Old Testament yet, shit got real weird

One thing that I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned is the possibility that past events and supernatural incidents may have influenced how world religions developed over the course of human history. A similarity between the creatures seen in the Louisiana even and a monster from ancient mythology could for example be an indicator that this is not the first time such a creature has showed up in our realm.

I think this might be Santeria. Because in Vodou (the correct spelling of “Voodoo”) he is known as Ogou. And like all Loa he is not a god. There is only one god in Vodou and that is Bondye. Loa are more akin to angles or spirits and are often syncretized with saints.
In Santeria he is the deity of war and metals, and in Vodou he is a warrior spirit who is the protector of all Vodouist. And his symbol is the Machete.
