Each comes for his own reason, but the fact is they are coming.
There is not a lot of lovecraft in this, and any inspiration was limited by the devs. They are interested in making their own stories and world, not a fan fiction of cthulu or something haha.

Well its not even that. They just want to make something unique and not cliche. Like, they have zombies but they arent the undead, they are infested with a bug-based plague that slowly eats away at them. While it works the same way as a zombie plague, ie spreading constantly, it is different because it evolves and changes and mutates with different bugs and victims. Thus we get these different creatures such as the hive and meatheads and the spider. Now, whether or not it is one plague, multiple, or something worse than just a plague, we dont know. But they are unique yet known by all at the same time 😃

This game is set in the south and is set during 1895, yes. But these hunters are a part of a BLOOD OATH organization where they give up a part of their very soul to hunt things most people cannot comprehend. This organization is timeless, boundary less, and has no limits according to our current knowledge. They invite these people into the organization and send them through a ritual initiation. Until that point, they know nothing of the beasts or the hunts or anything. But after that, whatever reason they choose to fight they do.

The association brings them in and allows them to understand what is happening. They give them the means. This is a time where many, many things can happen in the country and nobody would know. What happens after the match, like going back to the HQ and saying “bill slipped and broke his face on a rock” when in reality i shot him in the head, that could be a really possible thing. What drives a man to commit murder is simple, wealth. What causes a man to run away for his own life, humanity. Some kill, some dont. Some run, some dont. Its all how they play. Once on the outside, that man is completely different. Some tell the truth, some dont. I am sure the heads know whats going on but they have no basis or dont know what exactly happened so they cant do anything... the group of two could have been killed by xombies, the spider, more hunters, drowning, etc. they do not know, so they cant bestow judgement.
And i wish xD it would make this all a lot simpler lol

What the devs have done is made a situation where whatever happens is explained why it can happen... in order to make it a fun game they had to create some circumstance where you could kill beasts and humans. Thus, this loose law organization of lawless yet faithful bounty hunters.

See that would be cool, however the AHA is at the forefront of weapon technology. So the weapons they use were definitely able to be made from a timeline perspective, but the weapons are brand new. Therefore there is no real story to them other than just them being a modification to another weapon to make them more effective in certain fighting styles.

I read this book since I like to goto areas just south Death Valley CA and live desert style for a few weeks time to time. Anyway any lore you can find from the area will be applicable to your story arc and there is all kinds of wierd stories to be had in the desert of the strange.

Essentially a Wendigo is created when a person consumes another human being, they are then cursed and disfigured by the gods. The curse causes them to develop an eternal hunger that can never be sated, because of this they wander the forests eating anything they can and naturally become stronger and stronger the older they get.

Or have one boss you have to kill while another boss hunts you. If you kill the main boss, you can get the bounty and leave. Second boss is really tank and is more of a "run away or you die" kinda boss.
And if you start the banishing, he hauls ass straight to the banishing.

Without knowing much about the lore it's hard to say... but you coudl look at other universes and come to any number of conclusions. I know in 40K for example there would be no second chance. That's a heretic plain and simple and they need to be destroyed along wiht anythign and everything they had near them, including other people. Or D&D - there's some deities that believe anyone touched by a demon or devil needs to be banished to the 9 planes of hell, even if they're still a very good person. Desperate times with little understanding of the scenario calls for desperate measures - maybe the Hunters are taking no chances.

So reading through the louisiana book theres a section where a seemingly high ranked hunter says its a demonic infection and they need to figure out how sapient the "entity" is and hunt down its vessels, my guess is the butcher and spider have some link to the entity which is why they leave little holes in the world where theyve been and is why theyre banished and drop a bounty as opposed to the grunts

Whether it's a higher standing member who gives out missions, or they accept missions from a 3rd party or not is a different story.

Survivors and whistleblowers can easily be dismissed as lunatics, forgers, so on.

In the "deep" bayous of New Orleans, Louisiana in 1895, dark forces "that have crept through the cracks between worlds, or so one theory goes" have struck, corrupting the locals and infesting the place with horrors
The "theory" is most likely correct, as the manual notes that the Clues are basically cracks/holes to other worlds. (You can use a flashlight to look into them, it appears to be a strange cavern of sorts)
Well, for the most part we currently just have corrupted things but odds are we'll see some genuine intruders added later.
So the American Hunting Association is sending Bounty Hunters to hunt the wicked things that lurk in the dark. (Well, they can move about in the day just fine)

Probably one of the more key bits of lore is the letter about a "Sculptor"
Also from the manual, "Clues are supernatural rifts between worlds." "Every Hunter can use Dark Sight, a power which pierces the firmament between worlds, allowing them to see echoes of other worlds in our own. Dark Sight is a hunter’s primary tool in tracking monsters."
Also the Muslim journal entry on the previous page mentions a "southern djinn of thirst and filth".
I'm gonna guess that it's highly likely it's referring to the Sculptor; calling it a djinn is likely how it best fits in the cosmology of Islam.
On a related note, I've been kinda thinking about what religions of the time would accept the whole "cracks between worlds" stuff.
In Christianity and Judaism there's multiple worlds (of a sort) but you can't really go between them without dying/God teleporting you.

@fading plume I don’t think we’ve received any sort of confirmation that it’s global? To my understanding, it seems to be throughout the world, but in localized areas. The Hunters’ Association appears to be a secret society of sorts as far as I can tell.
@proven smelt currently they are working to refine this map before they start thinking about anything else! Same with monsters! They’ve said on multiple occasions that they’d really like to add those, but want this to be as polished as possible first!

Actually @fading plume , literally the first page of the case book reveals that this is currently just happening in the "deep bayous" near New Orleans.
