Hehe indeed, I really enjoy when a community gets to figure stuff out by pieceing things together as a game progress, kind of like how people come up with theories for Dark Souls or Bloodborne 😃

It looks like a lever to me based on the handle .. most guns in the 1800s were lever action as well. But ya it does look a little difficult to reload.. almost cut your hand if your grab it the wrong way

The only way it isn't lever action is if the gun has been modified in such a way that you don't need to use the lever

Which I mean this gun has obviously been modified to have the blade in the first place so that may fit in

But in irl standpoints I'm not sure if you could really modify a lever action in such a way where it was no longer lever action.

If you look at the end of the lever (towards the bigger blade) there looks to be a bolt, this bolt could actually be holding down the lever. Or the bolt is holding the bigger blade. I really can't tell

Well if it's a lever action(which it is definitely unless someone has modified the weapon, I know that because I've used that exact model of gun) to push down that lever you would usually grasp the underneath of the lever and pull down, it would be very hard/uncomfortable just put your hand in and push flat on it, I guess it's possible but when your in a fighting situation, your mind most likey wouldn't remember that and you would grasp it cutting yourself or

That gun is based of the Winchester repeater. I think at least. Have you shot one in real life? The lever is not difficult to pull whatsoever. The gun was specifically made to fire as quickly as you possibly could. On top of that, usually the ammo feed is on the side of the gun rather than underneath.

Again- we're talking about older model of guns, we're talking about beaten up guns, and we're talking about a fight or flight situation.
All of that together Id say that

The lever could be harder to pull - the model of the gun is most likely different from what we have today, which means that in general the lever could be harder to pull, on top of that the wear that we see on most of these guns means that around the lever could be rusted or filled with dirt, this would cause it to stick and again, be harder to pull than normal.

As well lever-action rifles do have some tendency to get jammed(again maybe not true on the newer models of the guns, but definitely was a issue back then) and I'd imagine being able to push the lever at a greater force would help with fixing the jam (could be wrong about that one I am not actually sure. I haven't experienced lever actions enough to really know and I havent done too much research on unjamming a lever action)

Annnd.
WHY, DO YOU NEED A BLADE ON THE STOCK OF THE GUN.
It's a serious question. a bayonet would be much more reliable and much more accessible. (also you basically have a 0% chance of cutting yourself with it or of it getting in your way.)
The cleaver at the end of this gun really just does not make that much sense, its dangerous, its unreliable, and its unnecessary.

So everyone knows what I am talking about, in the heat of battle (especially one that could easily end your own life) you're probably going to freak out a bit, So lets say your running with your weapon, boom boom you start hearing shots, maybe your teammate gets hit, you turn around you grab your gun you pull the trigger as fast as you can and you reach the lever to reload... and BAM- you grab the blade with your bare hand and bleed to death. - obviously this is a video game and this isnt going to be a variable but again they're trying to be realistic right? (WHY TAKE THE RISK)

Wait another point. WHEN WOUNDED EVERYTHING GETS FUZZIER AND HARDER - imagine having a bullet in your leg, you're bleeding profusely, trying to grab that gun and shoot it is going to be harder, even to the point where you may not be able to pull the lever without the extra leverage. (When I say fuzzier, I mean mentally, loosing a bunch of blood makes you light headed and you don't think as clearly)

I think the customization system in EFT is pretty good but they're a simulator more than anything and they're overdoing it.

I think in Hunt they're trying to make everything clear and accessible, so my bet is on something like "there are X stocks for rifles and Y stocks for shotguns but you'll never be able to put a {X} stock on shotguns or a {Y} stock on rifles."

@rotund ferry so starting with the "older model" argument. This weapon appears to be modeled after the Winchester repeated or Henry repeater that's the two big models that were released around this same time period. It was also known as the "Henry Goldenboy", and the "Gun That Won The West". These were very popular and very very effective because they were known to be able to shoot up to 20 rounds a minute depending on the barrel size and user. They were designed to be able to release and replace cartridges as quickly as possible, so the lever was easy to pull.

Next the "beaten up guns" argument. If you ask ANYONE who is big into guns, they will tell you the most important thing about owning and using a gun is cleaning it! Anytime you use it, as soon as you're home you pull it apart and clean it. I'm sure these hunters are the exact same way. Maybe the outside appears a little rusty or dirty, but I'd be willing to be that they make sure to really clean out the inside of the gun.

For both the "why the blade on the end" and "fight or flight" arguments, I'm going to refer to the "Willing suspension of disbelief." This is a term usually generally in film and theatre but can and is applied to video games. Essentially, this means that we are aware and recognize that this is not real life, and because of this, we are willing to give up a few of our realities in order to truly enjoy the form of entertainment. So why the blade on the end when a bayonet is more practical? Because a big blade on the end is way F***ing cooler! Why is our character able to stay focused even when we're being shot at and bleeding? Because it's a video game, and the majority of people would most likely not enjoy that sort of situation. Anyway, that's my thoughts on the situation! Let me hear what you have to say back!:) I enjoy this very much as well!

It would be cool that while playing one can buy or find cleaning tools or materials and craft cleaning for better functioning of the weapon this would create a "meta gaming" allowing more hardcore gaming... lovely concept! Maybe also allow the character to be better the more it survives and clkeans the gun or shoots it etc... But if there is permadeath... I mean for how long one can survive ,,, sooner or later it will be all erased? I am curious about the system fo progresssion they will implement....

Just something I am noticing, The launguages that are written on the site all seem to be Haitian Creole, which also brings to mind normal practices of the region that the Launguage was commenly spoken, being Haiti, and one stuck out ot me, the practice of Voodoo, Im starting to wonder if there is a connection, since Voodoo and Haitian Creol started to Appear in Louisiana around 1790s to 1800s, Which makes me wonder that the Hunter society may have voodoo ties, which alows them to have a connection to hell, maybe the Idea of the 8th circle that always seems to appear refers to crimes against God, and the Practicing of Voodoo, to gain power to hunt these creatures seems like a winner to me, sorry if this is out of order, Tired as of writing this.

So I thought this was pretty interesting. I was working on one of my videos, when I noticed this. This is the spider from the very beginning of the Steam trailer. I don't konw about you, but this sure looks like a human face to me. It's super cool because I felt like every monster except the Spider fit into the "evolution" of the monsters that was spoken about. You could tell each of them appeared to have been human at one point, and now the spider appears to be the same! Just thought I'd share this!

Part of the 'special magic' within the hunters is that they can't get infected / converted by the evil forces. So my guess is they knowingly made some mind of pact to sacrifice a part of their soul in order to be immune to the evil powers they are facing off.

@celest tide They just spawn at the beginning. There is no summoning / ritual. So if you get lucky the boss is at the first location you go. Otherwise you loot hints which you can find with your special vision. These hints narrow the map one by one until you have the exact location of the monster.

@distant hearth I have a theory on it! My theory is that essentially there was on person who was haunted by a powerful demon, and that demon slowly wore him down until it was able to possess him. That human is then transformed into either the spider or the butcher. Once the new monster kills someone, I believe that's what creates the clues! In the "Dark Awaits" entry that came out recently it talks about how he "relived the Brutality that created this rend" (paraphrasing). It also specifically says that those clues are "rends" that connect our world to theirs, which then allows the smaller demons/infection to spread into our world and infect others. Which also shows why it's localized to a specific area!

either the deamon is strong enogh to overcome the human soul therfor easy possesion or the human volentearly allows the deamon to enter his body

Regarding the conversation on the demons, are we really sure they are truly demons themselves? Maybe they are just creatures or beings tainted by the demons, their infectious powers seeping from the rends into our world?
I do not believe the Doctor to be possessed, however I do believe him to go mad and transform, likely, into the butcher. He shows no true signs of possession other than madness and fever, but these are also signs of sickness and death. He retains his sense of consciousness, but he looses his ability to speak and simply hisses and makes noises (at the end). This sounds to me as if he is turning into a zombie, or grunt, but in a more meaningful and special way.

It makes sense though, his world is thrust upside down and he must kill three members of his party the first day after altercations with some creatures. But isnt that also the day he starts to go... coo coo? What if he too was harmed.

#

If thats the case, then his transformation would take time. Obviously this would be noticed by the other survivors, and we know this to be true, but if you were in a group of survivors with little to no hope of surviving already, would you kill your one and only source of health in a dying world simply on suspicion? I would not.

#

So they let him live and he gets worse and worse until finally hes done. Hes fully transformed. You can also see hints of this from the flies and moths, the moths did not come from the other corpse, but from his body.

#

You can see the quick regression, the madness seeping, the loss of comprehension and speech. It looks as if he is turning into a zombie, his body slowly shutting down to complete the process. When he comes to, he only has a moment of realization of the scene around him before the final step takes place (I believe he died, and the final step of regeneration occurred so he came back as a zombie and before his last recognition left his now zombified form murdered his group.)

Just some thoughts on the Dr. Reed stuff after my reading and delving today into the Lore ^.^

This is where the lore gets fuzzy for me.

If there is this great evil presence and the AHA says theyre fighting it so others dont have to, then why are the members of the AHA killing eachother for something as simple and mortal as money. They are not entirely mortal themselves. So why do they fight for something so finite? I understand theyre risking their life for killing the beasts so they want to get something for their work. But why don thte members of the AHA just work together instead of killing eachother?

They would have so many more men and a lot easier time fighting the evil that way.

It only leads me to believe that this is some club, and not an Evil fighting force to protect humanity. Its like a sport to most Hunters, the thrill of the hunt and the possibility of reward. Not a crusade for the betterment of humanity.

So is their path really that righteous? And are they good men or bad men, and does their purpose mean anything to humanity as a whole other than the side note that they happen to be killing the scourge of this earth?

louisiana was a slave state so what if the AI are sort of representing the slave makers and keepers of the early 1800s, by 1860 half the population was enslaved and so imagine after that all the slave holders got send to hell. Due to some yet unkown phenomenon they rise up again looking to feast upon everything exploit and stuff you know the usual plantation owner stuff ;). Then as sort of a vigilante commitee some people got togheter to form an alliance against these dark forces "the Hunters" which they would later be called. And their alliance could be the AHA. To explain the bloodline the alliance and abilities would be passed on by father and son
