Honestly, I think it's more about the condition than anything for me, rather than its actual performance. Something about tying all of the mastery's effects to ammo pickups just makes my brain sad, I'll cede that it's good.

I failed to notice when masteries went from "niche trick" that shrike described them as once to significant and reliable.
Good you picked this game up now and not in the past.

Also, pickups(which ammo bricks are) are guaranteed if you deal enough damage since the last one dropped, so may be less RNG dependant than you think. May, as I don't know what exactly you think.

And yeah! I went through and looked at most of them just to be sure I wasn't wrong about my impression, a couple of them are still closer to that (I'd say Commando's while cool is still leaning towards 'niche trick' but Commando has plenty going for him in other ways and it's fun) but a lot of them are just substantive, permanent passive stat buffs or notable additions to your kit

Knowing that alone, though, I'm gonna' actually rescind my suggestion. I didn't realize that ammo pickups were guaranteed per amount of damage dealt... that's great design, actually.

Commando mastery can make it look like you killed with the knife, but not get the CD refreshed because you did with mastery. No, this isn't worked around like exp blade kit is.
