#change ammo for next mag without ejecting first

instead of being forced to eject my mag before changing my ammo let me pick what available ammo type i want to load for my next mag and then have it swap automatically the next time i eject

first off i want to be able to inspect and read about the different ammo types i have out of combat and how they compare. as it stands you need to eject your mag first, which might mean wasting a partial magazine if you are out of combat. in combat you do not have much time to inspect the difference between the different ammo types

second being forced to eject before picking ammo type adds little to the game as i see it. it is not like the active reload system where you have to time your reload where it adds a more "tactile", "hands-on" feeling to the combat. you are just pressing control (or whatever you have bound it to) once or twice between reloads, it feels more like just a nuisance

unless there is some obvious reason to force you to eject the mag that i am not seeing, why not just let you choose beforehand what you want to load for your next mag?

Reason? Carrying over what was easy to implement into S1 where noone complained is my guess.

lol it has bothered me since s1 as well, in s1 it is even worse because you will automatically reload your mag a few seconds after ejecting, usually in the middle of me trying to figure out what the different ammo types were again. maybe between like 5 different types for some s1 guns

Wait, you guys use different ammo types?

if its delayed people might get confused about why its not happening, you could technically do it but whats the point of having an eject system if you dont use it

#

its just a bit more realistic

think it could be pretty easily communicated that it would not take effect before your next mag, not sure either if i understand how it is more realistic that the android cant make a decision of what to load ahead of ejecting

the implementation is just a suggestion however so i wont argue about that. the main issue is i have no good way to inspect my different available ammo types or compare their effects out of combat without dumping a mag. if i can not cycle ammo types without ejecting then some other way to inspect ammo would be appreciated

#

actually the game already says "eject to switch ammo" if you try to switch before ejecting a mag doesnt it ? just keep the message when you cycle your ammo types and the game basically already tells you that you wont actually change the ammo type before ejecting your current mag

this is a fair point as well, i feel like the s2 ammo system generally is a lot less fleshed out than s1, plenty of opportunities to expand on it in s2.. as it stands you could argue there is generally no need to inspect your ammo in the first place since most weapons appear to have only one ammo type as a base barring shop upgrades (as an aside: for guns with more options there are no immediate indicators that tells you this as far as i know, so i might even have missed guns with multiple ammo types unwittingly)

I think ammo swapping in general should be more abundant in the first place.

#

I do get the idea behind this. But its basically switching the order of the keybinds (apart from the nuisance of having to waste ammo if some remains in the current mag)

it is what it is

I've not interacted with the ammo system aside from just messing around and switching back to the base ammo type. I'm okay with it not being a necessity, but I can see a world where diverse ammo usage could be a cool way to increase difficulty as the game progresses.

one very clear use case i could see for it is having more options for ap, which actually rely on some minimum of player engagement rather than just stacking ap upgrades from the upgrade stations on your gun

although i am diverging a bit from my own topic there are also a lot of cool ammo types with special mechanics and gimmicks floating around in the current iteration of the game that i think most players miss the opportunity to even engage with
