Hi. My iPhone SE 1st Gen from 2016 decided to update to the latest version last night on its own. It was previously running an iOS 14 version, although I cannot remember exactly which one; might've been 14.3. Actually it was probably iOS 13.5, the version specified in my handle. I use checkra1n.

I had made a full backup of my phone with iTunes about a month ago and tried to restore my phone with it but it restored to the latest version.

Over the course of years I've had this phone I have saved all my shsh2 blobs so I downloaded the 14.8 OTA blob and am downloading a 14.8 ipsw as we speak.

TL;DR: A9 device, no JB active, blobs available for downgrade. What are my options?

The OS'es i have access to are Windows 10 22H2 and an old OSX Mavericks 10.9.5. I also have a small voidlinux where I keep my checkra1n but rarely work with it so atm I'm not too comfortable with using it.

OK, I have discovered a guide for downgrading checkm8 devices: https://gist.github.com/0xallie/aac55c97f7925cddcf5ec3167f85dfe8

I'll probably download and install Ubuntu and get to work.

The guide says you cannot make any of this work under Windows but the guide is about a year old. Has anything changed on that front?

Also, is it possible to enter pwned DFU mode on one computer and then futurerestore on another? You see, I could try to attempt to enter pwned DFU under the voidlinux which is on my laptop, connect the phone to my Windows and run futurerestore GUI there. Is that something that could work? Does the Windows version of Futurerestore-GUI even have an option to "Pwned restore"?

In other words, is the problem that you cannot enter pwned DFU mode under windows or that pwned restore doesn't work at all in Futurerestore-GUI under windows? The option is there. It could save me from spending the entire day from downloading and installing Ubuntu.

nvm, I cannot download FR beta assets "for your current version".... OK, I'll move on to installing Ubuntu.

Thanks for the headsup on validation. Seems like I'm good to go. The OTA version posted invalid but the normal 14.8 got validated successfully.

I just set up an USB installer for Ubuntu and am about to boot into it to install; I wasn't able to even install wget installed on the voidlinux due to certification issues and fooling around with it is just too dank for me.

Also appreciate letting me know about right-clicking gaster making sure it runs as an executable; that's one less mine to step on. Hopefully Ubuntu will be easier to navigate than CLI-only voidlinux lol.

...I think I managed to restore it using Ubuntu, I'm in the setup screen and the UI resembles more what I'm used to seeing. Still cannot verify what version I'm on yet.

Yup! it worked!!

...umm, idk how to mark this as [SOLVED]

When I downloaded Gaster it was actually already marked as executable. But that's also nice to know
