@jaunty rune @fleet parcel For macs, I would try a different version of futurerestore. I tried that version 245 dated Jun 25/19 and it gave me errors on High Sierra (most likely would be the same for Mojave and Catalina). Had better success with this version compiled Feb. 13/20

When I ssh in Kodi.frappliance is installed under /private/var/Applications. But the install version has a date in early Feb when I first jailbroke it. I tried to install Kodi then. nitoTV app doesn't give me an uninstall option. So without doing a full restore, is there a terminal way to remove the old Kodi and try your party install again?

@fleet parcel turns out I was able to delete Kodi through Nito, then ran the party script again and now it shows. But, you say the stashing is corrupt. When I check terminal logs it says "Everything is already stashed. Stashing done!". But I have 2 errors, not sure what they are
/bin/mv: cannot stat /motd': No such file or directory /bin/mv: cannot stat /profile': No such file or directory
Do you think I still need to restore, rejailbreak and run the party again?

It’s not possible to reset it without updating is it? It ended up freezing or something cuz my tv wouldn’t detect it, so I restarted it and it started up I jailbroken obviously. Again today it won’t be detected by the tv unless it’s unplugged first. My Xbox one, ps3 and Android box all work fine so it@isn’t the tv

Has anyone been able to update an Apple TV 4K with a breakout board installed? I’m trying to update to a higher tvOS and rejailbreak but the update files are never able to install. I’ve tried installing unc0ver, restoring RootFS, and resetting the device. After resetting, I’m still unable to update tvOS.

etasonATV won't work for the latest. Reason being: tihmstar needs to add offsets for the latest vers.

Until Apple stops signing the lower vers, tihm won't touch it

Ya it's hit and miss. I have backported some IPA's for iPhone this way. Only real chance of working if it's on the same OS version eg. min 13.5.1 and you only have 13.5 installed. Will likely never work going back to older OS's.

well, problem was, since the jailbreak bypasses are aimed at the kernel, the developers have taken extra steps to nip that in the bud.. which means that even file type detection is much more sophisticated now...

@jaunty rune uff, the current apple remote is poor, but that would be even worse! How the heck do you pick it up without launching everything? Second, how do you hold it with one hand and adjust the volume up/down buttons at the absolute bottom? The balance is way off and would fall out of your hand most of the time trying to use it. As long as you disable auto updates, your apps will stay on the same version that's installed

For now, I can keep track of the downgraded build numbers, so in the event that you or someone accidentally updates the apps, you can always turn to the last known working one

Yes, did it many times but it was same issues so unpair it on ATV4K and upair it from the XCode and power it down and power up and its worked fine

Is anyone able to help with a few issues I’ve got? I’ve got a 4K atv with the breakout board and on 13.4.5 so still unc0ver compatible but I can install some tweaks through nitoTV others fail due to not being found? This is on the featured page as well like AppStore++ and tvcontrolcenter. The other issue I’m having is with checkra1n, my hackintosh will jailbreak my iPhone (also unc0ver compatible) but fails to jailbreak the atv 4K, it just reboots it from DFU to normal mode then fails to detect it?

if you head to "Sources" and hold the trackpad click on the source "nitosoft AppleTV4", then release, you can delete it. From there, go to the "Add Repo" button and type in: https://nitosoft.com/checkra1n/

I’ve not yet been able to jailbreak with checkra1n yet btw, I just get the reboot to normal mode then checkra1n times out so I don’t think there is a clash between jb’s, I’ve had this issue since iOS 12

okay. As for checkra1ns inability to jailbreak your 4K for you.. you could try the CLI. This is done by heading into terminal and executing /Applications/checkra1n.app/Contents/MacOS/checkra1n -c

From there, all you need to do is set it in DFU mode (the 4K) and it'll kick in immediately

It detects my device in DFU and starts the process, it just fails to boot into “checkra1n mode” and just boots normally. I’ll try the CLI method in the morning, hopefully that way works 😂 as my hope is it’s less laggy than unc0ver

Also, if checkra1n states that its "all done", you could hold down the TV button on your Siri Remote and look for the checkra1n symbol

The new repo fixed the first issue, you’re a legend! And yeah I’ve been soldering for a few years, I’m not the best but I’m not terrible 😂 I’ve trashed a few ps1’s when I first started trying to install a mod chip however!

That’s what I’d done before attempting to jailbreak with checkra1n, I knew not to update before attempting anything in case of issues. I’ll try the CLI method in the morning and update you with the results

Failing that I may just restore and start fresh, I think it may be a cable issue more than anything but didn’t want to rule out anything software wise I may be missing

@analog elk there's no nonce on a device from 7 years ago. This would be equivalent to setting a nonce on an iPhone 3Gs.

But to downgrade, a valid blob would be required, then you could just stitch the ticket into the firmware and restore it as custom.

Unfortunately not many actually saved their blobs, but OTA is still being signed @gaunt trench so it may be possible...

@analog elk its because there wasn't much focus for Apple TV until Apple TV 4 came out. The best we had was Apple TV 2, then when Apple released the next gen, it got significantly harder to hack. All focus was on tvOS when iOS was exploited (seeing as iOS and tvOS shared the same kernel)...

as easy as it may seem for him to simply add offsets to the jailbreak, I do believe downgrading is possible. You'd just grab the OTA blob

Well, here's the thing: Apple released a mishmash of macOS and iOS into one software that works for only one type of device. Since tvOS wasn't thought of back then, they only had resources to make either a mac update or an iOS update, so they put both into one. The numbers come from the iOS security and update manifest, whereas 7.3 is supposedly macOS versioning

Seeing as Apple TV lacked the capabilities of an iPhone/iPod/iPad, they cut a lot out, so it couldn't be an iOS-type firmware.. That's why mac was used because back then it didn't have SMS or calling

yes. Apple changed the build number of 8.4.3 to add in the Apple TV app. I doubt anything else was changed, but they did that in spite of etasonATV.
