Docks in OBS can be managed from the Docks menu in the main OBS window.

You can toggle docks on and off, or lock or unlock docks to prevent moving and editing, as well as add custom browser-based docks here.

You can also reset the UI from this menu to return your docks to their original state (Docks > Reset Docks).

Hello, I have accidentally downloaded OBS that priorities streaming instead of recording. I have deleted and downloaded OBS multiple times to undo it but no luck so far. How do i undo where OBS priorities recordings instead.

• The footage appears blurry and less detailed

• Color space (Rec.709)
• Color range (Full vs Limited)
• Encoders (x264, hardware)
• But the result is always noticeably worse than recording natively on Windows

The recording via HDMI from my Mac should appear as sharp and detailed as the original screen
• It should be comparable in clarity to recordings made natively on Windows using the same OBS settings and resolution (1080p60)

I’m recording gameplay from a Switch 2 using OBS. The setup is a Mac M2 Ultra connected via a capture card to a Windows PC, where the internal display (screen 1) and the game capture card (screen 3) are merged into one. I also tested with an Elgato capture card, but for this example, OBS is using a Blackmagic capture card set to Rec.709 with limited range.

The issue is that when I record the desktop screen through the capture card, the quality is noticeably worse compared to a native capture. Is there a way to avoid this quality loss? I’m not sure if the problem is bitrate-related — in OBS, I’ve set the bitrate to 15,000 kbps.

Hello, I really hope someone can help me because i've been losing my mind for the last two hours... So the audio capture input has disappeared, out of nowhere, from my audio mixer in OBS. I streamed just fine for four hours last Saturday, and today when I opened OBS to start streaming, there was just nothing. The video comes through fine, but there is absolutely no sound input and nothing showing up in the audio mixer. I'm streaming from an MSI PC laptop to a macbook air M1 running sequoia 15.6. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling OBS 3 times. I unplugged and replugged my capture card and HDMI cable several times. I've restarted both laptops several times as well. I have no idea what else to do. The sound from the PC laptop is going through the capture card because it's not coming out of the laptop itself, and like I said the video is being captured just fine, but there is no sound at all.

i have used chatgpt to give a look on the log see if this answer might help: your capture-card audio source isn’t in the scene you’re using.

From the log, OBS loads an Audio Input Capture device (“UGREEN 25773”) and initializes it at 48 kHz, and that source exists only in the scene named “Gayme.” You switched Program to “Just Chatting,” which doesn’t include that audio source—so the mixer looks empty.

What to do:
• In Just Chatting, add Audio Input Capture → Add Existing → pick the same device you use in “Gayme.”
(Or make it global: Settings → Audio → Mic/Auxiliary Audio 2 = your capture card, so it’s present in all scenes.)
• Keep sample rate at 48 kHz (already set). 

FYI, the log also shows Input Monitoring permission denied—that only affects desktop/system-audio capture, not your external capture card. If you do need desktop audio later, grant OBS “Input Monitoring” in macOS Privacy & Security. 

Try that and you should see the meters come back in your mixer on the scene you’re streaming from.

Looking for tips. I'm on a 2018 Macbook Pro. Got an Elgato Game Capture HD60 S+. Recording from a PS3 via HDMI+Splitter for the HDCP thing. OBS records my camera and audio fine, but the PS3 video is incredibly choppy. What settings should I mess with to help with that? It's weird too because OBS says it's using very little of my CPU despite my laptop being so old. Any help appreciated.

I have an issue where my Audio Mixer is detecting audio from my Elgato HD60 X but no audio is playing at all. Just a constant signal is being sent out to my Macbook unless I turn off the PS2. Then the mixer goes blank. I can asjust the volume and the signal will go to yellow if turned all the way up. The game audio works just fine. Once the audio plays it does go passed the black line into the red just a bit. It does give a slight very low audible hum noise. Once I playback my stream everything is completely fine. If I turn on my PS3 and ps5 and test the audio on that, It give signal based on if audio is being played. ( like scrolling or Game audio). No constant feed of audio like the ps2. I know it didn’t use to do this. I recently got chat link pro and changed some settings. I did however change back to HDMI Audio through the utility app for elgato but the ps2 is the only system that does this. wondering how can I fix this. Very hard for me to explain seeing as i’m not a knowledgeable tech guy. Please if anyone can understand me help me figure this out. Im on Mac. Elgato HD60x. I have a 4K HDMI 2.0 splitter. My Mic/Auxillary is set to Elgato HD60 X. And my monitoring device is set to my Scarlett Solo 4th Gen. If I set the Advanced settings to Monitor and Output, then both my mic and capture card will have this constant audio signal unless I set it to Off. Then the Mic will work as it should but the Capture Card will still feed a constant signal. (Game audio does work. Just want to understand what is giving off this signal). Cant find the answer anywhere

No, you can create a new Profile by clicking it in the top menu bar next to the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen. Once you click Profile, you’ll see an option to Create new Profile.

From there you can enter your stream key and test to see if you’re experiencing the same issues using the new profiles

there's no direct configuration controls available under those settings but I was able to reset to default permissions and yes, a dialog challenged me to accept the camera configurations -- virtual camera among them. Immediately virtual camera started sending my obs configured camera view -- the odd piece seems to be how it degrades to the device camera I wish obs would choose something more informative about the failure then degrading to another unconfigured device. thanks for the help this seems to be working now.

Circular-frame talking head: scene within scene.

I am trying to do a pretty basic recording showing a Chrome browser window with my head talking from a little circular window in the corner.

After a few hours I learned that I should create Scene 1 with the Chrome window, and a different Scene 2 with my head in a circular window (created using my webcam source and image mask), and then insert Scene 2 into Scene 1.

So far so good, but Scene 2 (my head) shows up in the middle of Scene 1 (my browser-window) and I can't get any red box or handles to resize Scene 2 or move it into the corner.

What am I missing?

this happens when you are running OBS from a managed device (typically from a school/employer), and they have not allowed you to install system extensions (or whitelisted OBS's extension)

I'm relatively new to OBS -- curious if there's a virtual source or other abstraction for an application window from the OS? I was hoping to use Chrome windows/tabs to provide program content -- not sure where this is now located.

Second question pertains to routing audio streams from OBS where I have audio sources mixed into the program. I am using Discord voice channel to broadcast my virtual camera. Is there a "better" method to facilitate this method of point-to-point casting? I get spotty results with the audio quality which is studio quality recordings. Any help with knowledge pointers or suggestions appreciated.

Brand new to OBS. I have core app, Detect filter, and Advanced Scene switcher installed and working. I have one scene with a source of a FireFox window (for screen recoding). All I want to do is start a recording when a Train is detected in the souce and then stop recording when it is passed by. Detect Filter is configured for Train and detection is being made. However, I can't figure out to to consistantly start and stop recording either using stand alone "Detect" filter or "Advanced Scene Switcher." Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

Question 1 is trying to capture an application window for use in a broadcast/program setup the output is typically to virtual camera using discord to broadcast -- if there are better options please describe them.

Question 2 is trying to bridge audio setups in a scene to discord with some form of bridge. Currently I've attempted a virtual cable from the audio OBS settings to discord -- I'm experiencing diminished audio and it fails on most attempts -- if there's a knowledge doc on how to do this so I don't lose sound quality I would appreciate the lift.

Q: are there application specific security configurations that might prevent this facility? I had some issues getting virtual camera supported through Chrome instance that was providing Discord. These were remedied with a permissions reset -- thanks for any help.

The error you show is a youtube-side error.

youtube is not reliable on what works/doesn't work with embeds, they will often change things because they rather want people to watch videos on youtube.

Just started using OBS, am complete newbie so I might not know what info is correct to give or leave out. Am on a MacBook Air M4, operating system and OBS are both up to date.

I have Bluestacks as a window capture source, and the video + audio from my source freezes suddenly and randomly. It happens even when not going live. It's fixed by double-clicking the source and hitting "restart capture," only for it to freeze again a few minutes later.

To be lcear it is not OBS in its entirety that's freezing, just that the audio/video feed from the source to OBS seems to stop

I’m running into an audio issue with my Elgato 4KS and OBS on macOS.
Setup:

• Elgato 4K60 S (external capture box)
• Console + Steelseries Nova X pro base station output → Chat Link cable → Elgato analog input
• MacBook Air 2022 (M2)
• OBS Studio (latest version)
• Elgato Studio (latest version)

Problem:

• In Elgato Studio, the analog audio feed is perfectly clean.
• In OBS, the same feed sounds distorted, even though:
  • Input levels are normal (not clipping/overdriven).
  • Sample rates match (48 kHz everywhere, confirmed in Audio MIDI Setup).
  • Gain adjustments in Elgato Studio don’t change the distortion in OBS.
  • Distortion is present in both recordings and monitoring.
• This is not a volume issue — the levels are fine, but the audio itself sounds broken/garbled in OBS.

What I’ve tried:

• Matching sample rates (48 kHz).
• Adjusting gain in Elgato Studio.
• Switching OBS monitoring modes (Monitor Off / Monitor Only / Monitor and Output).
• Adding Elgato audio via the Video Capture Device and as a separate Audio Input Capture source.
• Issue persists in all cases.

Expected: Clean audio in OBS, same as Elgato Studio.
Actual: Distorted audio in OBS at normal levels, while Elgato Studio plays clean.

Has anyone else seen this on macOS (Apple Silicon) with the Elgato 4K60 S analog input? Any workaround or specific OBS setting that fixes it?

I wiped my laptop and started fresh (I saw some issue where on initial startup if you change the name of your home folder it can mess things up so I left it alone). reinstalled obs and it worked fine

Hey! I need help with a annoying matter... this is gonna be a long and cluncky message so bare with me hahahah. My girlfriend want to start streaming on the PS5. She originally tried streaming on twitch from the ps5 mode itself, but it was really laggy and buffering, so she bought a elgato game capture. After changing a lot of resolution and stuff we have finally got it to work, with the game capture connected to both the Ps5 and her monitor, as well as her macbook. The first issue we then came across is the fact that on the obs the stream looks really green (almost looks like a greenscreen), and my first question is then: how can we make the stream look sharper and look exactly like the game from the Ps5? (which is fortnite btw if that has anything to say). Our next, and more important question, is the audio. She uses a razor wireless audio to both talk and hear the game and partychat while she plays, she is getting a microphone today (which is the fifine am8) but the problem still stands: How do we get both her voice, the partys voice and the games audio on the obs (on the stream) as well as in the headset so that she can hear the game and the partychat also? Been struggling with this for so long now, so hopefully someone has a good solution!! Thanks in advance!

This could mean a number of things, this capture card is not known to serve corrupt video, I can't diagnose this on macos properly, but post a log, maybe I'll find something.

You'll need additional hardware for it, such as the "elgato stream link".

Hi all. Not sure what's changed on my system, other than uninstalling a few apps recently (off the top of my head: OneDrive most recently) but OBS won't open. I was running the latest stable release, tried uninstalling and reinstalling... same issues. Tried installing the beta... same issues. I wasn't able to add a window/application audio capture. Windows (like About) were slow to open. It looked like it was taking up a lot of CPU (screenshot attached) -- 58% according to Activity Monitor, less than 5% according to OBS itself.

Having tried uninstalling, and reinstalling, and installing the beta, OBS now crashes immediately on launch. I can "reopen" after the crash, but only in Safe mode, and then I can't see any sources. Following up on my own questions after much wrangling. After searching the web for things like "Namespace SIGNAL, Code 11 Segmentation fault" (from MacOS's crash recovery log), I found numerous references to Logitech GHub which I installed recently (because I bought some new headphones). It seemed like this was the likely culprit. Here's what (so far) worked for me:

• Used CleanMyMacX to uninstall GHub.
• Made sure it was removed from “Login Items” in MacOS Settings.
• Went into Library/Application Support and deleted “G Hub” folder as mentioned here https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-crashes-on-launch.170123/
• Found more “logitech” files in Users/Shared/LGHUB and a “logi” folder (same creation date) with a “machine identifier” file. Deleted both folders.
• Uninstalled OBS using CleanMyMacX. Removed OBS folder from Application Support.
• Rebooted and reinstalled OBS. It went through the startup wizard and now seems to be working as expected.

Hey everyone, I have a question, and I am not sure if it is an actual OBS issue or not. I have a YouTube channel that I stream on and can consistently connect and stream on it just fine. I started a second channel that is linked to my personal channel, did all the necessary steps to verify it, and I have been accepted for all features. When I try to go live stream from OBS and I successfully connect my account, it says "couldn't get channel information" and will not connect. Even if I use a stream key. I have initialized the YouTube channels 24-hour rule after you try to start your first stream as well. I am at a loss here. This issue is unique to this channel specifically. Below are screenshots to show I am streaming eligible and what it says when I successfully connect the account.

Whenever I use my MacBook pro camera in obs and use native camera filters like portrait mode ,studio light ,it applies to the whole screen instead of just to camera window in obs and my gameplay screen also gets blurred etc ,any solution to this please ?

Hi Folks,

I'm running OBS Studio version 31.1.2 on an Apple M2 Ultra Mac Studio with 64GB of RAM.
My main use case is the replay buffer functionality, I'm not streaming.

I was experiencing frame drops while recording the game I'm playingand noticed that when OBS is running it's CPU utilization is very high (in conjunction with replayd daemon). Between replayd and OBS Studio they're using about 70% (conservative estimate) according to activity monitor. Killing OBS resolves my frame rate issue in the game I'm playing as replayd's CPU utilization goes away as well. I'm using the hardware encoder, h264. I've noticed the high utilization when idle as well (no replay buffer active).

Curious if anyone else has run into this issue and if there are any tips?

We are trying to use Jamf Pro to manage OBS. I have no issue getting the software to our Macs. However, to use the more advanced settings, it requires admin credentials. We don't allow admin permissions to our users. Is there a configuration profile that needs sent out? If so where do I find those settings and instructions on how to do that?

When the user clicks on the "Review App Permissions" and if you click on "Open Screen Recording Preferences" then you get the pop up to "Open System Settings for Security". When you click "Open System Settings", you get the pop up for admin to allow it.

I did not make any changes to the original installer.

Those are the macOS TCC permissions, they're not part of OBS but of macOS. OBS requires those permissions for camera, microphone, screen recording and background hotkeys.
You'll have to ask Jamf Pro how to grant them on managed systems.

Hello! I am brand new to this program. I am attempting to use my Nikon D850 to record a video podcast. I want to be able to see what my camera sees so I downloaded this software. I have the camera connected to the software and it's showing up BUT I am not able to change the settings. I clicked the properties button by my video capture device but the settings aren't popping up. It is only giving me the option to choose the divice I am filming from. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???

Video effects only work with the virtual camera or app specific, it doesn’t work with an individual raw device.

Since updating to 31.1.2 OBS has been extremely unstable. I have had to Force Quit often, and changing scene properties is unreliable. I’m running a M1 Max MBP with 64GB of RAM (on Sequoia 15.1). It also is forcing my MBPs fan to turn on for the first time while streaming (specifically OBS is causing the issue). Are their compatibility issues with this version?

So I sometimes switch between camera sources within scenes I’ve built. The sources dropdown menu is popping up extremely delayed or not at all. It (the OBS program) crashes often in general, and my Mac prompts me to run it in Safe Mode. This is my first time experiencing this after 4+ years of running it.

to delete the directory, it might be easiest to do:

1. in terminal, paste in:

But if I may ask, how does that stack up to SE.Live? I've been using it with out issue so far, but do have some gripes with it

pllugins are os-dependent in the sense that they have to be compiled for said OS.

for the three years I have been helping in here, se.live has been consistently the single most broken plugin. And though I cannot speak directly to it, I have been told it already was before that.

I haven't experienced any real breaking issues with it, tho I think that could be a bit of a case of my system just being beefy enough to power through it.
The only real main issue I have. Is the canvas for others ' endpoints has its own scenes that I can't detach from it, and the multi chat is read-only. I can't type in chat or perform actions like bans with it.
I'll look into Aitum when I have time to do so as I don't really want to rip up everything to try this, find out I don't like it, and have to put everything back into place.

Just find it odd that I never came across Aitum when searching for a muli broadcasting solution

That does little help to me when SE.Live routinely kept showing up as the first search responce for me, so idk what they're doing to get that high ranking.
I use DuckDuckGo, so it's like they're paying Google for their top spot.

I think, I may have seen "sorayuki's multirtmp" but I just couldn't get it to work in a way that satisfied me. And SE just felt a bit easier to get into.

Again, I will be looking into Aitum as SE does have a few chips on my shoulder

I apologize in advance if this should have gone in audio, but I haven't heard anyone on Windows having this issue.

My application audio captures randomly stop working after a few minutes (length of time varies a little bit) and I have to go into the source and tell it to restart.

Has anyone else encountered this and is there a way to fix it?
