It's one of two things:

• Two browser sources have the same URL
  Or
• Two browser sources are both configured on the Streamlabs website to show alerts

You can narrow it down to which sources they are by playing test alerts and watching which bars move in the OBS mixer when they go off

(It may not be Streamlabs but I saw a few sources that were Streamlabs so that's an assumption)

Am I able to set up 2 alert boxes? Here's what i did, maybe you can see where I went wrong:

• Created an alert box in Streamlabs
• grabbed the widget URL for it
• set up a new browser source in OBS and input that URL

Then I did the same thing with the second alert box, grabbed THAT widget url and created a NEW source. (one for subs, one for superchats) Is something wrong with how I set it up?

Not exactly wrong, but it's better to make it so one setup in the Streamlabs page contains multiple types of alerts. Fewer separate browser sources use less resources in the computer.

When I record on OBS, the quality doesn't look so well and I know macOS's quality isn't that bad. I had to stretch the screen capture so it could actually record the entire screen because when I first downloaded it, it was zoomed in. I think the stretch may be the problem but looking at it in the studio the quality is crisp until I start recording

Yeah, stretching can be an issue for quality. Make both resolutions in Settings > Video match the resolution of your screen, then you can make the capture fit the OBS preview.

Hi there, I just installed Stream Elements SE Live plugin on my macbook pro, and now my OBS no longer fits my macbook screen. I'm not talking about the preview window, I'm talking about the application itself. I cannot make it smaller, only bigger, and it seems to also be pinned to the top of my screen and I can't move it down, every time i try it snaps back up. It's both too wide and too tall for my macbook screen. Any idea why/how to fix?

I used the full-screen camera scene as a source in the 2-box scene, applied crop to the imported scene, but it crops the source, as mentioned in the guide. Any way around it?

A. Crop the source directly by holding Alt/Option and dragging the source's resize handles. The sides turn green to indicate they are cropped. Note: the preview and source must be unlocked.
B. Add a Crop Filter to crop the source prior to applying other filters. Note: this filter applies to every instance of the source, regardless of scene.

1. Restart OBS Studio first!
2. Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
3. Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
4. Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
5. Paste the URL into this Discord channel

this crash you've posted is caused by the youtube live control panel dock being open when you close OBS. it should stop happening if you close it. if you have other reports for the other crash you mentioned, could you post them?

Hello! Just joined, so lmk if this is the wrong place for this question. We have a user who ran into the following error when trying to Start Virtual Camera:
An error has occured while installing the virtual camera:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSSystemExtensionErrorDomain error 10.)
I tested a few of our other computers, and it turns out all of our MacBook Pros on Ventura 13.6.8 have this issue. We are working on upgrading to Sonoma, but have other obstacles slowing us down. Wondering if anyone else has run into this problem and has a workaround? I've tried OBS v31.0.4 and 31.1.1, and so far have not found a fix. Here is a log file:

Hey guys, I've used obs on windows historically and just switched over to Mac. I downloaded OBS for the first time today, and for some reason, it's not saving as an application. I have to re-open the .dmg file to re-access OBS. It shows up in my Finder as an external drive. I'm sure this is probably an easy fix, but can anyone help out an apple newb?

So a friend of mine was having issues getting their docks to show up in their OBS so they unlinked their Twitch to attempt to log back in and see if that would recover the docks. So I have been experiencing this issue:
i have started streaming bgmi using OBS studio recently and I am using Douwan as an audio+video capture to get the game sound and game screen.
What happens is the screen works perfectly fine but the audi keeps getting cut.
The audio capture disables on its own and I have to restart capture again and again so I do not loose audio to the stream.
This happens in device audio capture option of obs.
The audio cut happens for both
Desktop as well as app audio capture

Hi, first time installing OBS on a Macbook pro 2015 so please go easy on me. Unlike on windows, i see it automatically only captures sound coming from microphone and not system sound. Is there a way to configure it to record both? What I'm using it for is just recording atm, no streaming. E. g. Recording desktop during zoom meetings, or recording livestreams on YouTube etc. Chatgpt tells me macOS is blocking system sound (speakers/BT earphones) capture on OBS due to "privacy reasons" and suggests me to use some thing called BlackHole, which ultimately doesn't work

When using blackhole like chatgpt says, obs either: records system sound but I can't hear it as it happens, doesn't record system sound even though I can hear it as it happens, or records system sound from speakers but only as it gets into microphone (it records it as input rather than output sound source). So is there a way to fix all of this or make OBS capture sound from speakers/BT earphones and microphone correctly?

I'm trying to have an Image Slide Show where I can change the slide manually, and, using Studio Mode, only update the live Program when I choose to. Thus allowing me to change and skip slides ad-hoc without viewers seeing, and click a transition when I'm ready to proceed.

When Duplicate Sources is off, the Program view changes immediately when I hit the slide hotkeys - it doesn't wait for me to click a transition.

When Duplicate Sources is on, the Program view never updates - it always shows the same (first?) image. Clicking a transition makes the slideshow cut out then come back.

Changing the Slide Show's Visibility Behaviour (eg Always play even when not visible) does not make a difference.

I am interested as to the underpinnings as to why it doesn't work that way, yes please. I am keen to understand the way this works better.

However, as a (new) user, it certainly feels confusing? I was under the understanding that the whole point of Studio Mode is to be able to 'draft' edits without effecting the live scene, then 'publish' them, essentially. This breaks that.

More importantly, the Slide Show + Duplicate Sources actual behaviour - where it completely breaks the Slide Show - hardly seems the desirable behaviour by any user ever, regardless of the technical reason.

Hi, I’m having an issue seemingly with the plugin source record. Whenever I apply it to the source I want to record, it not only fails to produce a recording of that source but also makes the first half of the regular obs recording green and unwatchable. Hi everybody, I’m having an annoying issue with OBS 31.1.1 on a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with Mac OS Monterey 12.7.6 and a Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K.

I tried multiple things but I can’t figured it out.

I need to output, via the Decklink feature, what I’m programming on OBS. With previous versions, like OBS 28, it works well, but since I need to use NDI feature with DistroAV, I encountered problems.

As soon as I open OBS, a live feed of my Ultrastudio input is shown through the SDI output of itself, but as soon as I start the Decklink output on OBS, it went completely black, and nothing on the program or on the preview its shown.

What could that be? Is there something i can do?

On macOS, some older Elgato capture devices may not be supported or require workarounds to use with OBS Studio:

• Game Capture HD and HD60 are not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the Elgato Game Capture app in full screen, then capture it with a macOS Screen Capture/Window Capture source

Hey guys, I’m a brand-new OBS Studio user running current version 31.1.1. When I try to expand the application window sizing it crashes, and I’m just now trying to follow along with a YouTube beginner tutorial. Unfortunately, it also crashes in Safe Mode.

I’m running a MacBook Pro on Sequoia 15.5, 2018 model. 2.9 GHz Intel i9

You need the "System Extension" entitlement for your app.
On the Apple Developer page under Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles -> Identifiers -> [your app] -> Capabilities -> System Extension

Can anyone help me please. OBS 13.1.1 on MBP m3, MacOS 15.5. Sometimes OBS records perfectly, sometimes it will not. The latter when connected my HDMI to a 1080p TV screen. I tried deleting/re-installing OBS. Simplest config: just macOS Audio Capture plus Window Capture of Zwift app. Sometimes recording works, at other time any amount of retries and OBS restarts only fail to allow recording. In between I can see that anything has changed. In previous versions of OBS the app was faultless in recording. I am trying to record video of virtual cycle races for the team, so extremely disappointing to be balked by these complete failures in OBS. Looking at ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/logs/2025-07-24 18-24-05.txt I see kVTCompressionPropertyKey_MaxKeyFrameIntervalDuration failed, keyframe interval might be incorrect: The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -12902.)

I do get an error message, and 4 times I have tried to screen grab it, but have only got an image of the app. Needless to say, at the time of starting the recording, the race is just about to start, so I am extremely distracted by many other things. I have never managed to glean any comprehensible information from the error message.

I tried to repeat the typical setup exactly, but every test iOBS records OK. It just seems to fail in th esituation where a real race is just about to start.

I looked for a previous version of OBS that worked perfectly every time, but I could only see a detailed list of update information, not that actual app.

At the start of the log file, amongst other entries, I see: [macOS] Permission for video device access denied. Is there any way to find out what access is being denied specifically. ANd how to give OBS access.

It seems to fail when creating the encoder session, which is very early in the process. There are very few variables at that point, pretty much the only one is the resolution (also the pixel format but you have that on default).
To be clear, it shouldn't fail for that reason. Just trying to find out if it does.

No webcam. I just fired up all the usual apps, and OBS recorded fine. But I was doing this with Zwift on the MBP screen, not on the old TV screen. This bug is erratic. Sometimes won't record, sometimes will.

But just now, on discord, I was not using BLE headphones for Discord, which I do in races.

Hello, I installed Blackhole and OBS and am not seeing audio levels coming through the OBS Audio Mixer. I'd just like to be able to have my desktop audio from browser come through OBS. I'm on Macbook M2 Monterey, and have set up a Multi Output Device in Audio Midi Setup with Macbook Pro Speakers and Blackhole 2ch. And then created an Audio Output Capture in OBS with Blackhole 2ch selected. And finally set my Mac Sound setting output to use Multi-Output Device. I'm using Ableton 12, and one of my tracks has a plugin from ALM that sends a very fast audio signal to my eurorack modular setup, via one of the ADAT optical outputs of my audio interface (output 17 out of approximately 20). When I try to record in OBS using macOS Audio Capture, I get both the sound of my music playing in Ableton as well as this sync track (an abrasive electronic noise), which is "muted" in Ableton because it's not being sent out a main out. And yet OBS is capturing it, indicating to me that it is capturing every output of my audio interface from my system. So my question is this: how can I tell OBS to only capture the "main outs" of my audio interface, channels 1 and 2?

hey i tries to use obs as an eq for my airpods because i was trying to listen to tutorials on YT that were waaay too bass-y and it works, but theres major lag. the way i set it up is YT - > macbook speaker (muted) - >speaker output in obs, filter EQ applied, monitored by airpods. but theres a noticable maybe 300ms delay so spoken content doesnt match mouth movements and its rough on the mind. is there a better way? low latency audio buffering didnt seem to make a difference

@cold mountain If you get A/V desync, go too Edit > Advanced audio properties, change the "sync offset" of affected sources (you can use negative values), try recording again, see how much more you need to adjust.

Okay cool, I’ll play around with that! The final thing I’ll ask whilst I’m here, is how can I improve the video quality? When I finish filming, whether using my phone as a camera, or my webcam, it always comes out super blurry compared to what I want! I was close to buying a new webcam, but my phone quality is insane, so if that’s also blurry too, then it must be something to do with OBS @fair quest

UPDATE! Fixed...Well Kinda
Front USB ports on M4 Max Mac Studio are known to connect and disconnect with certain devices including capture cards. All that money and 10gbps USB C can't keep USB C speed without disconnecting. Plugged into dock and works fine

Think I may have found a culprit for recording start failure, I was using Output Video Encoder: Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder. Using that occasionally OBS would start recording, but often after the first time it would fail to start and continue failing to start. But swapping to plain x264 seems to fix the problem (of not allowing recording to start). I have yet to grok why Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder might be failing. [macOS:15.6 OBS:31.1.2]

that sounds like a problem with either a crappy internet connection or a crappy router, not an OBS problem

if you're using the stock router provided by the ISP, buy your own router instead. But also make sure you have a decent upload speed on your connection - depending on where you live you might have a great download speed, but if upload is bad, you can't stream.

so run an internet speed test (i recommend from multiple sources)

Speed tests mean very little with regards to streaming and your choice of bitrate. They measure your raw upload speed to a server that's near you (likely run by your local ISP), instead of your stable upload speed to a streaming server. Your stable speed will determine the bitrate you can comfortably stream at.

The stable speed can be estimated as roughly 70-75% of the speed test result in a lot of cases, however this is by no means a perfect estimate. In reality, it may end up being much worse if there's problems between your ISP and the streaming service.

after 31.1.2 update h264 can't be used. it says 'Starting the output failed Please check the log for details.
Note: If you are using the NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date.' .And if I try another codec only x264 works fine and other compressed codec won't work properly. the video ends up being like it's 10fps.

I am new to mac os and I really need help with downloading OBS and setting it up for spelltable

Since i updated obs a few days ago it is not working right anymore. Everytime i record something the recording just freezes after a few minutes but it is still recording. The only way to fix that is by going to 'screen capture' in the audio mixer then to 'properties' and then to 'restart capture'. After that the recording works again but it is very anoying because i always have to check if the recording is still going. Sometimes even the recording itself just cuts off. It is not a cpu or storage issue and i tried multiple very low settings but the problem stays the same. I am on a Macbook M1 Sequoia 15.5. How can i fix this issue?

Is there a way of constraining the output in OBS so that they are either constrained to the same height (eg height of the output screen) or same width?

Thank you, is that the red bound thing that I can adjust? If so I tried that, but this is what I'm getting:

1. For different aspect ratios e.g. I mix 3:4 with 9:16, I set the bound for the 3:4s, but when it transitions to the 9:16, the height overshoots the screen, and the width is inside of the width of the 3:4

2. For different sized videos with the same aspect ratios, when I set the boundaries for the smaller sized video, when it transitions to the larger video, it overshoots the size of the screen by the size difference

no, the red box is not a bounding box, it just shows the size of the item.
Press ctrl+e to open the transform dialog of that source, and then you can set it to be within a given bounding box that won't allow it to grow bigger than that box

I'm trying to import (I even exported a scene pack that was already working) and a new one in OBS. But when I import it, OBS simply comes up empty. It does absolutely nothing. I leave the .json file I'm trying to import below, and it does absolutely nothing.
The strange thing is that when I exported the one that was working and tried to import it again, NOTHING HAPPENED. The scenes come up empty.

it looks like the scenes are being imported fine according to the log at least; when you say nothing happened, do you mean you don't see the scenes in the list or anything after importing? a screenshot of OBS might be useful

hmm, ok, looking at that scene file, it only has two source types, and both those sources are windows-specific, so they don't exist on macOS. i am not sure how the scene collection importer is meant to handle that

after you import it, you do need to still select the scene collection by navigating to "scene collection" in the menu bar, then selecting the collection you just imported

2. Uninstall SE.Live (Add/Remove Programs)

My OBS has been nothing but problems for weeks.

B4 anyone asks: I have deleted OBS 3-5 times. Turned off my computer before, during and after deleting OBS. I have double, tripled checked my plugins folder to see if there is anything weird there. I have updated my OBS to be the most recently one available on the website. As well as managing the upgrades necessary for my computer. Now that's all said:

It crashes everytime I try to quit the program. the Dock Toolbar is never open, I have to manuelly select it to be shown. However, when I do I click on the +, trash and settlings buttons and they do nothing. I did find a week ago the + button would work but the options were invisible and I had to randomly click to get the right one. That does not work anymore. This is the most frustrating problem. If my capture card decides to disconnect, I cannot go into properties to reconnect manually. Additionally, I am having problems with SE.Live to which I have been in contact with the team for however, they asked me to contact OBS as well because they recently asked me to put this into my computer

Yes, because I have been getting stream elements to work, yet when I search for the plugin in the Obs folder is is not there. Stream Element team messaged me there should be an app in my folder or in my launchpad that is SE.Live to which I showed them screen shots of the program not being there. Anyway, they are trying to work on that problem as I udnerstand SE.Live for mac is still in Beta.

But just to clarify, since I don't like fiddling in terminal too much because I know computers but I don't know that level of computers and I don't want to break anything do I input this into my terminal?:

hi! Im trying to install both the default sources and move plugins, neither of which are showing up. I have been at this for an embarrassing amount of time and I have no idea what else I can do.

you need to install the arm64 one, not x86_64

x86_64 is for intel macs, you're on apple silicon which uses arm64

if you don't find it, in Finder, press Shift + Cmd + G, paste ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio in the prompt and press enter

right so it is loading correctly, but it is loading twic, which likely means you installed it to two different locations at once.
I'd advise cleaning up all th installs you did and then reinstalling it once

then you can add it as a quick one

To cleanly remove SE.Live:

1. Close any instances of OBS
2. Uninstall SE.Live (Add/Remove Programs)
3. Uninstall OBS Studio (make sure that "Settings, Scenes, etc." is not selected)
4. Install OBS Studio again from https://obsproject.com/
   Your settings will be saved unless you have selected to delete them during removal.
