Maybe some suggestions.
You need to get the app as a source and then full screen capture and see it elsewhere too?
Or just record full screen of your app?
Hi! Updating to 31.0.0 has OBS crashing whenever I try to launch it. I'm on Sequoia 15.2. If I change the name of the obs-studio folder in Application Support, OBS launches just fine. Any suggestions on diagnosing the issue?
A macOS crash report is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash report:
- Open Console.app (Located in
/Applications/Utilities). - Navigate to the Crash Reports view along the left sidebar, then sort the table by date to find the most recent crash with the OBS process name.
- Drag and drop the selected crash onto the Discord window to upload the file, or copy-and-paste the report text here.
in that appliaction support folder, there's a file named user.ini, can you upload it here?
ok, still in that folder, go in basic > scenes and show what's listed there
well that's a lot
you think you can zip them (just the .json ones should do it) and send it here.
string suspition it's this bug
if that's the case I can try deleting the ones I don't need anymore, including the untitled ones
unfortunately i don't think so, it's this CEF thing; it's dying in ffmpeg initialization

Are those from browser docks?
oh mb, still need to get more used to reading ips
it's very hard to read them if you aren't on macOS; on macOS they at least look somewhat normal
unfortunately no, i don't think this has anything to do with whether you have browser docks up
they said yeeting the settings folder solves it
so it's either docks or sources
from my investigation so far it's actually closer to random chance =/
oh
Damn, so am I stuck in 30.2.3 for now?
or, consistent under some conditions, but the conditions that cause it seem random
Hey all I'm getting a split second delay on all my recordings. I tried browsing here and changing a few settings with no luck. I even tried re-adding the audio source as someone mentioned as well. Any help would be awesome; thanks much! Latest Log: https://obsproject.com/logs/N6LacGi5sxFuocyP Another Log: https://obsproject.com/logs/vCvGgUpjC7B6TOXW

!delay You can offset audio or use a delay filter on the video to get them to line up better. 1000ms = 1 second
If you need to delay your audio sources, go to Edit -> Advanced Audio Properties and adjust the Sync Offset (ms) field. If you need to delay your video sources, add a Video Delay (Async) filter. For other sources (Window/Game/Display Capture), add a Render Delay filter and adjust as necessary.
Thank you! So there's no real issue? We have to add in a delay?
Yeah, it's common for things to be a little off between camera and mic sources
Is there a method to getting it dialed in? Without having to guess, record, view file, repeat?

Makes sense thank you
Try running as admin or redownload the dmg. as it might be damaged.
It seems like your rendering is not powerful enough.
You need stronger hardware - cpu/gpu.
I'm admin.
And i redownloaded.
Still nothing?
Yeah still nothing.
What is your OS latest?
What is your model?
Intel or ARM?
If app dmg. is ok and you have correct version then if it is not possible to open it maybe reset system and try again or right click the dmg. and go from there? That’s weird.
Also reset your caches.
is there a better plugin for streaming to twitch and youtube at the same time or is this plugin still the best way? https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/multiple-rtmp-outputs-plugin.964/ lots of comments say its not working after recent updates so i thought id see what others here are using for streaming to youtube/twitch simultaneously
it has been updated, and now works with the latest update.
Issue of comments saying it doesn't work is that after it gets updated and workss again, the comments don't get removed.
but also yess there's a few others

Having an issue where my network speed is showing 10mbps upload speed but OBS is only uploading around 3-5, which is causing lots of frame drops and bad quality stream. Wondering what can be done about this. Also having ongoing issues with my internet service provider which is likely contributing to this, but hoping to get some advice if there is anything that can be done about my speed testing at 1 speed and OBS uploading much slower
Speed tests mean very little with regards to streaming and your choice of bitrate. They measure your raw upload speed to a server that's near you (likely run by your local ISP), instead of your stable upload speed to a streaming server. Your stable speed will determine the bitrate you can comfortably stream at.
The stable speed can be estimated as roughly 70-75% of the speed test result in a lot of cases, however this is by no means a perfect estimate. In reality, it may end up being much worse if there's problems between your ISP and the streaming service.
Ok awesome as long as there isn’t one that’s clearly better it sounds like this one is the most used/liked one so I’ll go with that
Hey everyone, would anyone have a solution to our problem?
So I have some color settings made under the Advanced settings tabs and it works when im streaming but not when im recording. Can someone help me fix it?
Hi all, does anyone have experiencing with setting up OBS with Whatnot please?
I have tried using the instructions on Whatno, however when I add my OBS Websocket Service Password and select Connect - the Connect button just stays white and nothing happens
Any assistance/guidance woud be greatly appreciated
Anything on my spindump
thanks for the reminder, i had been meaning to get back to you. i can't say exactly why things are hanging from that dump, but it looks like a likely culprit is the sheer amount of stuff you're loading when you start OBS. you have over 600 media sources, and OBS is using over 33 gb of memory in that spindump, which is quite a lot. if you need all those media sources, you will probably want to go through them all and enable the "close while inactive" option, so that OBS doesn't keep them all hanging around in memory
Hi team.
Running OBS on Mac Studio M2 chip set and for the last few months I've been having it crash when I close. It runs fine, no issues, but every time I close, it crashs. I am assuming this is related to one of the plugins but after researching I am unable to locate how to tell which may be causing the issue. Any suggestions to point me in the right direction?

To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel

thank you for the response. Is there a setting that I can play around with to try and improve this? My stable speed appears to jump around 10-50% of my speed test result, vs. the 70-75% you mentioned. Wondering if there is some sort of setting I can pay around with like the bitrate.
Hello, I have a Mac Mini M1 and has 2 monitors connected to it; one is the main monitor and the other is extending the display. Does macOS not support fullscreen projector? When I do fullscreen projector the main monitor goes black and only the extended monitor has the contents, I could not control the scenes I want to. What might be the solution for this?

I have been streaming fine at 48fps (dropped from 60 to try and fix), 1080p - yesterday i added a few decorations to my stream and have been getting encoding overloaded - it seems one of the webm files has an audio track??? also seeing a failure to get name with coreaudio. any ideas what could be going wrong here?
i think this is the most recent log file where it was happening, but if these logs are unhelpful i can grab new logs after i go live tomorrow since it doesn't seem to happen with recordings.

Someone could help me?
Welcome to the OBS community support channel. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it, and if someone is available to help they'll respond. Try to be detailed, and provide a log if you are having issues with streaming/recording (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log). Please be patient if someone doesn't respond right away!
Hello everyone… I have an i7 iMac with AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT 8 GB. The AMD graphics are not showing up as an encoder option in OBS. When I stream by myself I am ok for the most part however when using the “Stream Together” feature trouble begins. alleviate? Hey everyone, my camera becomes laggy if i add an audio input device (focusrite in this case) I used to just use audio hijack in the past but that stopped working. So i thought i would finally use the new audio input things in obs. I have no clue how to fix this, any help would be appreciated
it is only when i scene change
i just saw there is an update with stream deck maybe that has something to do with it
So I have some color settings made under the Advanced settings tabs and it works when im streaming but not when im recording. Can someone help me fix it?
Still freezing with scene changes
ok it is confirmed that adding an audio input was what was making it lag the scene changes, as soon i removed it, scene changes went back to normal
for scene collection if me remove list have save in hard Drive. if i remove will lost or will not which. if i not use that remove if i need import and export that will lost or won't which?
that sentence does not make any sense, try to explain what you want to know more simply
i sorry. i not good english. i am Deaf. i use Sign Language. i not know how correct Sentence. sorry.....
it's ok, I'll try to understand.
you exported your scene collection and are trying to import it back in?

has anybody here used the Multiple RTMP outputs plugin bye sorayuki before? i installed it but have no idea where to go to configure it and almost all the instructions are in japanese that ive found, i dont see any plugins menu anywhere in obs, i currently stream through twitch primarily, so i have those settings configured already, i see this in OBS settings but idk if this will stream to both twitch and youtube at the same time, to me it seems like in obs this menu lets you pick one or the other
Can you send me a list of OBS Studio versions with their dates? I need to check because I’m having problems with lag and choppiness. Thanks!
ok so i found the multiple output option, but do i need to plug in both the youtube and twitch settings into that or will it pick up twitch automatically?
Since you already have YT connected in the OBS settings, you would use the multiple output one to send only to Twitch. You will probably want different stream settings for Twitch than YT.
so since twitch is the primary stream service i use should i only configured youtube in that plugin?
Yes, that works too. It will be easier to have YT be the primary though, if you want to see chat in OBS and such. The YT chat URL changes every stream, and having it signed in makes this work automatically in OBS.
well we monitor our twitch chat via ipads so yeah that may be better, twitch wasnt working in the rtmp plugin though i kept getting a "could not connect to server" error, yet the youtube connection in the plugin worked fine
so i think maybe having obs windowed and leaving some space for the youtube chat popout window to the side might work
I'm not sure why that wasn't connecting, try double checking URL and stream key, I guess.
Well first I got an incorrect stream url error so I found and fixed that but then got a could not connect error so idk how to troubleshoot that
this is the twitch ingest url im using per twitch's recommendations rtmp://ingest.global-contribute.live-video.net/app/{stream_key} and i just double checked my stream key and its correct
so the error just says "Error: Failed to connect to stream"
when it does work i get this pop up
but as you can see in the background, the streams look like theyre running, and i just checked both of them as an outside viewer and theyre working
also when i end the stream from obs, its still going in youtube
so what steam settings are you recommending to change for youtube?
You only want to stream to Twitch and YT, is that correct?
yes
Don't put YT in the Multiple output dock, only connect to it in OBS Settings > Stream.
What's your internet upload speed?
fast, gigabit fiber line, averages between 700-900 mbps up
Cool. For the YT stream in OBS Settings > Stream page, try 25000 kbps
For the Twitch stream in the multiple output dock, use 6000
so this is what i had for my output settings when twitch streaming only
Make this 25000 for YT
ok
so in obs the youtube live control panel had me plug in my email, it said it was going to ask me to confirm a passkey like a fingerprint scan which i have on my macbook but its just like loading something and not moving to the next page
also i keep getting a pop up now that says "Starting the output failed. Please check the log for details.
Note: If you are using the NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date."

https://help.twitch.tv/s/twitch-ingest-recommendation?language=en_US
ok so if youtube is the primary in the obs stream settings do i also need it in the rtmp plug in settings?
You do not. One stream from OBS, one stream from multirtmp dock
ok
ok so what about the other error that i get when i just click start streaming in obs now?
"Starting the output failed. Please check the log for details.
Note: If you are using the NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date."
never had this error with just twitch streaming alone
this is such garbage, with as widely as this plugin seems to be used theres like zero info on how to set it up or use it...getting really frustrated with this crap
I gave you the attempted fix above already
for the encoder error i got?
also if i configure 25000 bitrate for youtube since its the primary stream in obs now, how do i edit the bitrate for the twitch output since that needs to be lower?
Yes, the ingest server thing.
You edit the bitrate for Twitch in the multirtmp dock for it.
If everything there says something like "same as OBS" change the encoder first to your apple hardware encoder.
ok gotcha yes i changed the ingest server thing, my question i asked after that was about the encoder error that said ""Starting the output failed. Please check the log for details.
Note: If you are using the NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date."
The ingest server thing was for that error. I don't know how I can be more clear.
Did you try it and then still get the error after? You haven't said
oh ok, and no i didnt get the error again, i guess i thought it was a different error since it referred to drivers
It's just a generic error, so it isn't always drivers. Glad it's working now.
ok gotcha, so one more thing, with configuring the broacast details, it makes me configure a broadcast for youtube before i start, but i know in twitch it lets me select the game im playing so people searching by that game can find it, where would i configure that so it shows up for twitch?
You can do that in the Twitch website, Stream Manager page
ok, looks like i have to do that on youtube as well
For YT, you use the OBS button Manage Broadcast
yeah, but theres no select game option to pick which game im playing
thats all i get
!youtube I don't believe YT has that feature, only Twitch
How to stream to YouTube: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/streaming-to-youtube-with-obs-studio.232/
Okay, then use that
but will the settings for the title/description in obs overwrite the title/description?
As long as you don't select the broadcast in OBS, and just use the YT site there, no.
Try reading the guide, I haven't attempted to do it like that before.
ok so how do you do it then because obs will not let me start a youtube stream without configuring broadcast settings within obs
Did I not just say I don't know?
no need to be rude, youre giving advice on doing multi-broadcasts with this plugin as if youre aware of how to properly set it up and as if youve used it, so how am i to know you dont use it?
I have used the plugin, and frankly am walking you through it kindly using my personal time when you could find this information elsewhere. You are asking about using the YT integration differently than standard, not the plugin.
ok i appreciate the help, ill work with it more
im lookin into recoding some stuff for tiktok and the wide recoring does not work for me and becomes a nusance. can i change the format on the recoding and if so can anyone guide me to that thanks

yeah, that screenshot is from windows
no, the way macos accesses video devices is different than the one windows uses
do you have an idea of how to get from point A to point B through this problem or not really?
I can make a statement like macOS access video devices differently from windows without external help.
well for the moment, I don't see what the problem actually is
the options in the sources aren't the same, that's normal
that's a consequence of one being on windows and the other on mac
so : how is that an issue for you
reread this and see if you can put it together
the passive aggressiveness is seriously unrequired and no, if I'm asking you to detail it's because I need you to detail in order to help you
I agree
but yknow, you give passive aggressiveneess you might get it back
nothing in that message was passive aggressive.
The API that windows and macos use are different, and that's why the options in the source are different, not because there are features missing
dont worry about helping me @plucky zenith
ouki, my apologies

This is my first time using Streamlabs and OBS on my new MacBook Air M1 chip laptop. How can I set it up?
You'll want to choose one or the other, OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop. Generally, running both can overload a system.
Which one you prefer?
OBS Studio
!sl That's what this support discord is for, BTW. SL has their own support.

youre saying the macOS screen capture source freezes within 30 seconds of adding it, every time?
how much free disk space do you have according to finder?
macOS screen capture has been known to do freeze if you don't have a lot of space free, for some reason, and that may be low enough to cause it
you might check if freeing up a lot more (say, 20-30 GB at least) affects the issue at all
ok, i will clear it, but what about it isnt about disk space and it continues to freeze?
then let me know and we will keep looking at it

Sorry...I tried but can't find it. I will try again! Thank you!
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/logs
~/ is your local user Home folder, where your other folders like Videos, Music, Pictures are also located. Library should be a folder inside of it as well.

Thank you so much! I got it!!
I tried to open by both Safe mode and Standard mode, but they didn't work.
and I can't open it, so that I can't change my Canvas Resolution.
if you install this version, does it work

Hello team OBS. I keep getting crashes and I don't know why? I'm using OBS on MacBook m1 to stream to twitch. Can anyone read crash reports?
A macOS crash report is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash report:
- Open Console.app (Located in
/Applications/Utilities). - Navigate to the Crash Reports view along the left sidebar, then sort the table by date to find the most recent crash with the OBS process name.
- Drag and drop the selected crash onto the Discord window to upload the file, or copy-and-paste the report text here.
It works! Thank you so much for helping me!!! 🙏
yeah, so OBS right now has an issue with loading on computers with non-latin characters in the username. you'll have to stay on that version till it gets fixed
does this crash occur if you launch OBS in safe mode?
I haven't run OBS in safe mode since the crashes started. Today I had a crash 30 mins into the stream, after launching, quitting , then relaunching OBS again, I was able to stream for two hours before the it crashed again (which is the report above). Then I launched OBS again, quit, launched again and then streamed for another 30 mins before ending the stream without a crash.
I have to quit obs are a relaunch because otherwise right clicking doesn't work and I cannot access things like properties or filters.
Yesterday I had eight crashes over the four hours.
I think updating to the latest MacOS has upset things. I can't think of anything else that would be different since streaming last week without issues. I haven't had a single crash in the 30 streams over the last few months.
safe mode actually disables websockets entirely; so i'm sure the crash will go away in safe mode
I was just wondering if the issue is painfully obvious to people who can read the crash report
i would try removing the plugins you installed; one of them is likely the cause
it is not possible for me to tell easily which one
it's also possible it isn't a plugin; it just seems likely
OKay no worries, thank you.
Do yoo know off the top of your head the directory where I can find plug-ins on Mac?
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/plugins
@feral granite same issue here. M4 Max newest Mac OS. After some hours I get a crash. Have only 2 plugins. One is vertical stream (Atium) and second is Stream Deck Plugin
When I check the log file it’s huge around 5gb

anybody know of a way i can pull a log file if obs totally crapped out and froze my macbook? had it happen twice today during a stream while using my xbox series x, the stream froze up first and then i noticed the whole macbook froze then i had to hard restart and when i went to look at the previous and current log file analyze pages it says no active output found as if i wasnt streaming, i found several log files but theyre so massive with text idk how to decipher whats wrong by looking at them
My log files are huge as well when obs crashes not sure why. Like 5gb
can you post a crash report like the bot message directed? and if an OBS log is ever 5gb in size, that is almost certainly caused by a plugin misbehaving and not something that can be done by OBS
Going to 👍 thanks for the help. It’s just I have only these two plugins. One is vertical stream (Atium) and second is Stream Deck Plugin.
And these crashes are now active since I upgraded my MacBook to M4 Max and to the newest OS
Also deleted everything related to OBS and reinstalled still this issue. Just not sure if the vertical or the stream deck plugin has problems
My first thoughts were that Apple Intelligence which was added with the latest update was perhaps hogging some resources in the background. I turned Siri off entirely and it crashes randomly
Oh ok. So you think it’s newest OS problems? And how many plugins you have or which ones?
I have about 12 plugins. I was streaming Sekiro for 30 independent streams with no crashes. I keep backstepping to remove the latest tweaks I’ve added to the stream since Sekiro. I kinda feel it’s been happening since I updated the OS.
I’ll find the plugin list and share for science
I don’t use a stream deck or the vertical thingy
@feral granite so it’s probably OS. Because I have this crashes also since update. Before it was fine
please post the crash report
heres my crash report from last night, to recap i was streaming from an xbox series x, using an m2 macbook, i stream to youtube and twitch using the multiple output plugin by sorayuki
i dont seem to have a crash report from the last crash of the night that locked everything up, i had to hard restart the macbook for anything to work
thank you; that one at least appears to be a crash in the macOS openGL driver
could you send an OBS log as well so we can see what sources you have?
!maclog
can you also update macOS and see if the crash still occurs? you are on an older version

ah didnt realize i was on an older version, thought i clicked somewhere to keep it up to date
ok downloading the sequoia update now
never had full crashes like this before when streaming on my switch/ps5 though, weird
would trying to run at 25000 bits for the stream quality have an affect on that? somebody mentioned to do that bitrate for youtube, but even in youtube studio it was giving me a warning to reduce it to 6800
ive always done around 6000-8000 when twitch streaming so 25000 sounded kinda high to me but idk anything about it so maybe its not
once i update the macOS should i be looking for a new obs update as well?
no; OBS is up to date
ok cool
im updated now so we'll see how it goes friday when i do a long stream again
the game on the xbox i was playing crashed maybe an hour into playing it but thats not an obs issue it crashed on the console itself, but about an hour after that obs itself crashed once locking things up completely, then crashed again maybe 30-45 mins later, both crashes locked up the entire laptop
how can i get obs for mac catalina
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (30.0+) runs on macOS 11 (Big Sur) and higher on Intel and Apple Silicon.
Some features, such as the new macOS Screen Capture and macOS Audio Capture sources require macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
For versions of OBS Studio compatible with prior versions of macOS, see the macOS Versions page.
@yam so other than macOS being out of date did you see any other errors? ive been streaming for quite a while and havent had a full system crash like this before and the only thing different is streaming through both twitch/youtube using the plugin a lot of people seem to use, and using an xbox series x for the console
same result if im using macos audio capture
nothing you were doing should cause the entire operating system to crash, no. in general, nothing you do from an application should ever be able to bring down the entire machine
the crash was in the openGL driver, which is a pretty low-level system component internal to macOS. i have experienced openGL crashes causing kernel panics before, so i think it's a pretty likely culprit
hopefully the issue is not present in the current macOS
- 5.8% CPU Encoder Overload
Intel Core i5-10400 @ 2.90GHz - OK! / Radeon RX 5600 XT - OK!
what was the problem?
this, i have this turned on
makes sense
Ok gotcha so it sounds like it’s possible the outdated OS may have cause the issue then? I guess I’ll just have to wait to see if it happens again during my next long stream
Hello everyone I tried my hardest to find in the Mac support on the website about my particular version but I scrolled until I went crossed eyed lmao. Quick question does the new update OBS STUDIO 31.0.0 work for Mac OS Monterey 12.7.6?
The page hasn't updated for 31 yet, but if 30.2.3 is listed as compatible, I would bet 31 also is
So update should I press the red button and do it. I take no accountable in myself I look to professionals lol
Accountability*
Haha, yeah. Go ahead. If it doesn't work out it's easy to revert
Yes Captain 🫡 I shall report back. Bahahaha Have a Great Night Thank You!!!
Best kf luck! Thanks, you too!

How can I clip on macbook air
Like if I click certain keys then it clips the last 30 seconds of playtime
The replay buffer is a feature that allows you to keep a rolling buffer of OBS' output for a set amount of time (known as "flashback recording"), which can be saved to disk as a recorded video when a hotkey is pressed. You can enable it via Settings -> Output.
Where can I find my replay buffer clip
OBS Studio recordings can be found by selecting File > Show Recordings. The output path can be changed under Settings > Output.
!commands there is a bot command for many questions 🙂
A list of commands can be found here: https://obsbot.rodney.io/
So if I have replay buffer rolling how do i set it to record the last 30 seconds
You would set the length of time in OBS Settings > Output as the bot message mentions
There are 3 hotkeys that can be configured for the replay buffer. Start, Save, and Stop.
Start and stop will, start and stop the buffer
“Save” will take whatever amount of video that is in the buffer and save it to disk.
so in order to actually clip something i need to have buffer started, right?
yes. Once started, the Replay Buffer will hold the last # seconds of video in RAM. So if it is set to 30 seconds, it will hold the last 30 seconds as a rolling buffer. NOTE: if you set the value too high and/or you dont have a lot of RAM to begin with, the buffer may not be able to hold the full duration.
hi guys
i hope someone can help me here cause i dont know where i crash my head anymore XD
i have a m4 pro with 14/20 and 48gb ram, elgato 4k X for record my gameplay and every record that i make have stutter issue...
anyone have a solution for this or it's insolvable? thanks for anyone answer me..
Hoping this is a simple fix. I was recording my mini dv tapes and accidentally clicked on a mode, where it shows the green screen. Is there a way to completely remove the green screen while doing this?
so im confused
if replay buffer is enabled is that what actually clips the last 30 seconds
like if i click start replay buffer it clips the last 30 seconds
when you "Start" the buffer, it just buffers video into RAM.
when you press the "Save" hotkey, it takes whatever is in RAM at that moment and saves it to a file on your hard drive
what is ram..
your computers memory
how can i change/see where the ram is stored @potent lark
!log a log file from OBS will be the simplest way (its been forever since i last use a Mac)
- Intel OBS on Apple Silicon Mac
- Permissions Not Granted (2)
- 0.4% Rendering Lag
- 4.2% CPU Encoder Overload
Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB) / Apple Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB)
according to the log, you have 8GB of memory/RAM.
you will want to go to OBS Settings > Hotkeys and set one for "Save Replay"
you will need to Start the replay buffer first, so it buffers your stream to memory
then every time you want to save a clip, press the Save Replay hotkey. it will take the video in the buffer and save it to a file in your recordings folder
Ok this makes sense
ive done that
but
how can i change where it saves the clip to
in OBS Settings > Output, in the Recording section. Clips are saved in the same folder as Recordings
Recording path?
yep
kk
hello i have a scene collection imported from windows when i click for example a window audio capture use for youtube music OBS does crash any advice how to remove it without crashing?

Help
Hello
Is anyone here
Help
!maclog You know what you need to do
I can only use discord on my phone when I try to use in Safari the page doesn’t open
Should I type it in
My cameras show up in properties but not on the preview or main screen
Please help me
I’ll make a donation to OBS
I’m desperate
Select the camera source and do CMD+R
Buttons on the keyboard.
If you don't stop the yelling I won't help you. Calm down
No I’m sorry it was cap lock
Please forgive me
I’m sorry
I didn’t mean that
When I select the camera I see it but it will not show in the boxes
Screenshot the properties of the camera source
Exit studio mode by clicking its button. Add complications for a new user
No need to add anything.
Now unlock your camera sources in the Sources dock by clicking their padlock icons
The sources dock is like layers of a cake. The ones higher cover up the ones below
Ok what do I do
Do the other cameras also show in the properties when you look?
Good. Select the one named side, tell me do you see a red border in the OBS Preview
No
Is the source still locked?
If I click the true off upper left the picture in the upper left goes black
How do I tell if source is locked
The padlock icon in the sources dock next to each source will let you know
OK yes
I clicked off all padlocks
Select side by clicking it once, then screenshot your whole OBS window (not the properties)
Exit studio mode
How
Click the button of the same name
Once you have done that, with side selected, do CMD+r
I'm sorry, I gotta run
you didn't exit studio mode; you should do that, it will make things simpler
can you take a screenshot of the interface? it's also simpler if you take a screenshot instead of taking a photograph of your screen

but, whatever. you still have not exited studio mode

Please I’m a pastor and I’m trying
How do I exit studio
Please don’t give up on me
i'd suggest you slow down and read carefully the directions that people are giving you. you've been told how to exit studio mode twice. you press the button in the main interface window that says "studio mode", near the bottom middle right
mostly that involves using discord on your computer rather than your phone
Oh I’m using my Mac to communicate with you that’s why I was using pictures when I try to go into discord on Safari it just gives a blank screen
I think I’m out of studio mode now
you are. what issues are you having at this point?
I can’t open discord on safari from my Mac
Ok
I can’t separate the cameras in studio mode
I have a main, side, and upper left
Camera
I can’t get them in the proper boxes
That’s how it looks in studio mode
I’m a local pastor trying to star a podcast
why are you trying to use studio mode? i don't understand
you don't need to use studio mode for anything
I was told that if I’ll find a podcast that I need to use studio mode to talk and also call up websites
I want to be able to do live broadcasts
I want to be able to have guest
I want to be able to have live chats
And be able to slow audience screens
From Safari etc
Yam if you can help I will make a donation to the charity of your choice
I don’t know what I’m doing
!studiomode Studio mode isn't needed for any of that stuff. It is only so you can have things you adjust that don't show to the viewers.

Hello all! Have some major issues with dropped frame rates. They reach over 90%. I read my logs, which mentioned insufficient bandwidth. Called my ISP (AT&T), and they did the usual (restarted modem, asked me to run internet tests, told me to turn off connection from other devices). Cloudflare says my download speed is 15.3 Mbps. Upload is 877kbps. The guy I was on the phone with tried to tell me the upload speed is fine. Anyways, I asked if I could have someone come out and take a look, but he said he was trying to save me money because "they won't do anything he has already tried." I am not able to upgrade to fiber, its not available where I live. Any ideas or help would be appreciated 😅

I am currently streaming on Twitch using a PS5 and a MacBook Pro with a capture card. Unfortunately, my viewers are experiencing a black screen. Despite having the necessary permissions enabled and ensuring that OBS is up-to-date, the issue persists. I have attempted to resolve the problem by restarting my MacBook and resetting everything, but nothing has worked so far. Does anyone have any insights or solutions to this problem?
I turned off DHCP
Went through the Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide. Unfortunately, none of the solutions worked.
can anyone help me on that?
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel

can anyone help me on that
also i cant find game capture in sources

I had an AT&T rep come out and take a look. They confirmed what I was fearing— the only internet plan available in my area isn’t nearly enough for what I want to do.
So it looks like I need to look into switching providers. I think Cox is the main other one in my area… but I hear nightmare stories about them. Does anyone have advice?
Well never mind, he just told me that he doesn’t even see a terminal for Cox in my area 🙃

I am recording a video for a videogame called "Geometry Dash" and beating a hard level. I need to record clicks in order to prove my legitimacy. For some reason, I have reset OBS to default settings but my keyboard sounds are cut off when I try to record them using the Macbook Pro mic or my other Microphone. Why does this happen? How do I remove this noise cancellation?

have you added your microphone as an audio input capture source already?

make sure that voice isolation isn't on https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-mic-modes-on-your-mac-mchle82b42f0/mac
lemme try it
tysm you're the best!
@frigid bramble not sure if I understand it right. If you are live streaming to TWITCH directly from your ps5, but you are using a capture card to connect your ps5 to your laptop to OBS? In this it won’t do anything as you’re not streaming from your laptop through capture card for the pass-through capability.
Another underlying issue is the HDCP in the console setting. That setting is the whole issue and the reason why the capture card isn’t able to capture anything as that HDCP is built to protect from the game to being copied or whatever the reason it is.
You are using your laptop for what? To chat with your viewers?
I attempted to install OBS on my mac today, however, I can't get the program to open. It reads, "You can’t open the application “OBS” because this application is not supported on this Mac."
I tried another pathway (contents->macOS->OBS) and it opens up a terminal that reflects a truncation of the program:
"-bash: /Users/xxxxxxx/Desktop/OBS.app/Contents/MacOS/OBS: Bad CPU type in executable
logout"
I've also tried updating my mac and the issue has persisted. If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated!
what version of macos
sequoia 15.2
you downloaded the apple silicon version; you need the intel version. https://obsproject.com/download
Download OBS Studio for Windows, Mac or Linux
cool thanks
i appreciate it!
i assumed the intel one was for virtual machines or something
nah, it's for any mac that precedes the m1
you won't ever see that error the other way around, also; if an apple silicon user runs the intel version, it'll either just work or they'll be prompted to install rosetta
My bad if I said it wrong. I have my PS5 hooked up to a capture card, which connects to my MacBook Pro. I use OBS to stream to Twitch. Everything looks good on OBS (PS5 screen, audio, and face cam). However, when I start my stream, my viewers see the preview screen, but it frozen. When they click on the video, they see a black screen. This issue persists for all my viewers, so I believe it's something on my end.

YES 🙏
in the Edit menu
its not there..
im on Windows, but it should be the same on Mac.
I need this
Yea I found it but
I need it for the capture card
screenshot your Advanced Audio Properties window then
what does the page previous to this one show?

but i MAY have gotten it to work, hang on with me here
not sure what specific capture device you have, but searching for WARRKY capture devices on Amazon brings up not very good reviews. Ive personally never heard of that brand

i got the audio input and it seems to be using audio, can you show me where to direct recordings into again?
the audio seems to be playing, just need to figure out how to send recordings to a specific folder again
OBS Studio recordings can be found by selecting File > Show Recordings. The output path can be changed under Settings > Output.

what do i do

fixed it, had to disconnect yt account and reconnect

Where do I go to disable it?

try this -> #macos-support message
Dont know, i dont use Macs these days. Best to defer to @forest axle when they are available (or someone else if they happen to know specifically)
that's okay, thank you for all your help!! :)
those instructions are outdated. to remove the camera extension on macOS sequoia, you can either 1. drag OBS.app to the trash, or 2. go to system settings -> general -> login items and extensions -> camera extensions

Hey folks. I am a returning OBS user who hasn't touched the software since 2016 - right now I am tryin to use it so that I can capture some footage of a few softwares for a project I am working on. From the research I have done I understand that CRF is the best Rate Controller option for recording, yet that does not appear to be an option for me (as seen in the screenshot below).
I've scoured the internet (mostly OBS forums, reddit, and YT comment sections [i'm desperate]) and have found no answers to this question. For reference, these are my current settings
Recording Format: mkv
Video Encoder: Apple VT HEVC Hardware Encoder
Audio Encoder: CoreAudio AAC
Bitrate: 4000 kbps.
I also have a screenshot of my computer specs as well.
what I find especially curious is that in streaming settings Rate Controllers are abundant, CRF is an option
can you scroll up or enlarge the window in that first screenshot so we can confirm the encoder you have selected?
@forest axle I did try a recording at 2500 kbps (which was default) and it was fine but still a little choppy
the test recording at 4k kbps was incredibly choppy
i do not remember whether or not it's expected that intel hardware encoders lack CRF; i won't be able to check until later when i am at my machine
So pretty much if it’s not I’m out of luck?
Hello, I am NEW to OBS. I want to record a video playing in my Safari web browser. I cannot figure out how to preview the video in OBS or how to record anything. I installed BlackHole to capture Desktop Audio. I got that to work. When I click "Record," I just get a black screen with the audio. Can anyone give me step-by-step instructions on how to capture video?? UPDATE: I was able to get it to capture video, but I am unable to record just a selection within a window. I would like to record just the video embedded in the page.

getting really low connection speeds using the sorayuki rtmp plugin via twitch, im located in arizona and the nearest ingest server i could think to use was los angeles, im on a gigabit fiber line that does 600 down and 400 up and im connected via ethernet to a router satellite, any idea why my connection speeds are so incredibly low?
If your stream is disconnecting or OBS Studio reports dropped frames, follow our Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide for details on how to reduce these issues.
I’m not positive as I don’t have a T2-equipped Intel Mac to test with, but from what I remember using OBS on older (2010 Mac Pro) Macs, the pre-Apple Silicon Macs’ hardware encoders don’t support constant bitrate encoding modes. You could try selecting the “Apple VT HEVC T2 Hardware Encoder” option to see if that one offers a constant bitrate mode, although if it doesn’t (or if the constant bitrate mode encoding from that encoder doesn’t have satisfactory quality), you’ll probably need to use x264 software encoding instead.
While H264 will probably work fine in most cases, if you know you need a HEVC/H265 encoded-file (rather than the H264 that x264 will generate), you could maybe try originally recording in H264 (possibly at a higher bitrate than would normally be needed) and then transcode to HEVC with a tool like Handbrake after the recording is over (I believe the variable bitrate encoding modes do better transcoding an existing file compared to encoding a live feed in real time). You could also use Handbrake to transcode to HEVC on, say, a Windows system with an NVIDIA GPU with Nvenc, as Nvenc hardware encoding supports constant bitrate modes (at least on most NVIDIA GPUs). You could also potentially try using HEVC software encoding to transcode the recorded file to HEVC, with something like x265, although keep in mind that at least if you’re in the US, there are potential legal patent concerns over doing software encoding of HEVC, which I believe is why OBS does not offer x265 as an encoding option (I’m not a lawyer and this is not legal advice, just letting you know as a precaution).
they aren't talking about CBR, they're talking about CRF
Happy holidays what’s the oldest supported Mac version where I can still get updates?
Ahh, thanks, I hadn’t seen that. @modest crown most of what I said still applies (x264 supports CRF, and you can select that instead of CBR), but probably ignore the part about Nvenc since it looks like it doesn’t support CRF (at least on the GPU I checked on).
So instead of using the HECV encoder i should use x264
If you don’t know that you need a HEVC encode (which based on what you’ve mentioned I don’t think you do), then yes using x264 would probably be the simplest way to get CRF.
This was super helpful- so much advice I found across multiple platforms was geared towards gaming so knowing that I don’t have to conform to what’s standard is awesome
Seperate issue - seems pretty solvable compared to my other - I've noticed that my recordings appear to be washed out or desaturated. Is there a way to fix that?
(left is from the recording, right is a screeshot of the application)
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel

your settings are fine; though upgrading OBS is probably a good idea
there are subtle issues in OBS that cause incorrect luminance (brightness) that's mostly visible in greys like that
you can mitigate it by setting your color space to sRGB in settings->advanced->color space
Should I be worried about this?
no; the first few frames are always registered as dropped while the encoder starts up, it's normal
good to know
lol nice of the bot in the macOS channel to link me to a twitch connection test that is a windows program…
The Twitch test is literally one small part of the guide which is meant for everyone. If it doesn't apply to you, it doesn't apply to you
Well some of the other parts don’t make sense to me like “A good starting point is to set your bitrate to 75% of your total upload speed” my upload speed is around 600Mbps and the bitrates are typically in kbps
a Mbps is 1000 kbps
and your stable upload speed to the twitch servers is likely not 600 Mbps
I think it was also written with the intent a user would know the limitations of their streaming site and take that into account
Yeah I have no idea what twitch/youtubes different limits are
6000 kbps for twitch 51 000 for youtube
Gotcha
The thing is I’ve been streaming on a switch and ps5 for almost 2 years and never had issues like this til I started with my xbox series X, or maybe I just never noticed the low connection speeds until I started using the RTMP plugin
But I guess that’s appropriate given what you just said about the limitation of twitch
Yup, that's fine
Ok
Ok
And it’s possible it was some weird internet issue I was having last night, both streams on twitch and YouTube were choppy as hell during one of my segments and I reset routers and things seemed fine after that, audio never had any issues it was the video that was laggy on the streams but through obs the video playback seemed totally normal
I made this change and updated my obs. Honestly with how my recordings look now I feel that they are acceptable (any other small issues can be tweaked in post).
Thanks for the help!
it wont let me screen rec, i added the screen rec on my thing, and it wont reconise my display or a window
sup guys, i play on a windows pc but my obs runs on a macbook and smashes it, i have had this issue where sometimes randomly my mic will start crackling and ill have to change my mic from wave link stream to microphonefx and the other way around sometimes, its not the biggest issue but it can be frustrating at times if i record a nice gameplay then listen to it and my audio isnt there and my mic is just making that crackling, thumping sound, obviously using wave link with a shure sm7b, any recommendations would be great as ive been checking for any updates and everything is up to date, thanks in advance !
I put custom CSS in my yt chat but it still shows up normal in my stream
Hello everyone! I was wondering if someone could help, I want to display my nintendo switch on my macbook, but it's not working! I bought a capture card for the hdmi cable, and though the mac and OBS recognises the capture card, theres just a black screen, no feed. I tried it with two different hdmi's cables and its the same problem, I made sure to also test them as well as the nintendo and its dock on my friends TV and they work fine. Is there anyway to figure out what's wrong?
Hey guys, relatively new to OBS and I'm trying to setup a capture card so I can stream directly from my Xbox but everytime I get it setup it just streams a still image of what I had on my Xbox when I click apply, any ideas?
Great bot! Just mentioning the logs helped me find the soution. I had permission for OBS video share turned off on my mac. easy fix!
hello, trying to set up a shure SM7B mic running through a scarlett solo into OBS. The mic works on garageband, ableton live and is registering sound on all other apps except OBS. I have it in the drop down menu, and selected, and all inputs are coming from scarlett solo but no sound is registering in OBS. Any help is greatly appreciated, cheers

still nothing unfortunately
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide
fixed, thank you
Hey, can anyone help with a video scrolling issue I’ve been having on my MacBook with obs? I have an elgato HD60X hooked up to an Xbox series x, my 4K tv & MacBook Pro. I managed to stabilize the video for now but at times when I first connect to obs & add the audio & video sources the screen wants to scroll upwards & eventually appear static & blurred like an early 2000’s tv
On My capture device utility app I have my EDID mode set to internal & the HDR tone mapping switched off

that doesn't seem like an issue with your machine, it seems like an issue with your capture card. pretty odd though. i would visit elgato support

this also sounds like an issue with the elgato wave link though
So I know this may be more of a twitch thing but I thought I’d ask if anybody has any advice, I’m on r-1.ch/analyzer and most of the tests came out ok except the video frames one which said “Your stream had 888 duplicate frames (49.33%), resulting in low frame rate / jitter for your viewers. This can occur when encoding at a higher frame rate than your content is rendering at. Note this check can generate false positives if the channel was streaming static content while being tested.” Anybody have an idea on how to resolve this?
So how do I encode from obs at a proper frame rate to make that test happy?

Hi guys, I'm using OBS 31 with MacOS 15.2 and until two weeks ago it was running well. Now it's crashing everytime I start a stream. I've already uninstall and install OBS but it didn't help. I will give you the OBS report. Maybe one of you guys can help me solve the problem.
should i be good with a migration from windows to obs on mac as is?
should obs 27.2.4 work fine on catalina?
please don't copy paste the same message repeatedly; you were asked to post a clean log
looks like this is caused by the vertical canvas plugin. i'd make sure that is up to date and if so contact the plugin author
@forest axle Thank you. I will look into it.
Can I get help with connecting my iPhone 14 with the 4K X
I've been trying to record gameplay which is fine on my screen but the recording is always laggy even though yesterday it was completly fine with the same settings. I've changed some settings based on what i've found on google but nothing works, https://obsproject.com/logs/2ADkcXiatpBLUcdl
note: on obs it says bitrate is 6000 but in the log it says 2500, and my cpu usage is around 5%
also the OBS Log Analyzer says 45.9% rendering lag, but all games and refresh rates are capped at 60 fps so the GPU should not be maxed out
- 44.9% Rendering Lag

@celest shell what program are you recording?
roblox
is game mode on?
yes
do not use game mode
Oh let me see how it works the
then
It works
Thats odd how it does that
Thanks!
game mode does what it says; it prioritizes the focused program and gives less resources to programs in the background; i.e., in this case OBS
Oh true, I knew it did that but I did not know it would do so much as to delay OBS or that it should just use more gpu
Good to know though thank you
bump?
also should i be fine with qsv in terms of performance or it is a cpu hog?
!macversions Guide below. QSV is a hardware encoder, so it shouldn't actually use CPU. It just lives in the CPU
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (30.0+) runs on macOS 11 (Big Sur) and higher on Intel and Apple Silicon.
Some features, such as the new macOS Screen Capture and macOS Audio Capture sources require macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
For versions of OBS Studio compatible with prior versions of macOS, see the macOS Versions page.
i also would not recommend trying to port your scene collection file directly from windows to macOS
many of the source types are not shared, and trying to do so could cause issues
i see, what would you suggest me to do? its just some text, game capture and browser, nothing that isnt really unique?
thank you! well but qsv, potentially due to bugs, could cause issues or cpu hogging
QSV doesn't exist as such on macOS, all hardware encoders are wrapped by videotoolbox
game capture doesn't either; the equivalent is macOS screen capture
the text source is also different
so you should likely just recreate your scenes, which is perfectly doable; just don't migrate the actual file
gotcha, they'll just disappear i guess or i can remove them manually and adjust
how about using streamfx there? hmmmm
i could manually edit the files to adjust for macos
that's probably not a good idea
hmm.... well thank you for advising, i'll think twice before starting obs without adjusting the user data
so i start over with my scenes then, okay..... kind of a bummer
no big deal
may i ask how different?
Also im copying from windows to mac 27.2.4 (same version)
for game capture, didn't syphoninject exist before?
what happened?
- don't use 27.2.4, there is no reason to use that when a newer version is available
- syphon is deprecated because it is in almost all cases superseded by macOS screen capture
- the windows text source simply doesn't exist on macOS, a different source type exists for text that uses a different API
in general, as i've said multiple times, you should abandon the notion of migrating your scene file directly. this is completely unsupported and unlikely to work for all of the reasons i've mentioned and more, and may in fact cause issues
understood! is there like a converter for those or...?
no, there is not
deletes scene files
well, it's the last qt5 version available, but i guess people actually moved the ecosystem to qt6 by now
there could be a converter....
anyways thank you, i'll not bother again with unsupported things
no, there couldn't
Oh... okay then, hm
Well there is a converter, the importer. It just sucks nowadays because it hasn’t been adjusted for the new macOS capture sources
It could and should be updated
But as of now, wouldn’t recommend using it
Ah, how about at the point of 27.2.4? not recommended to use either? im on catalina
which was the last version of macos the importer has been adjusted for?
thanks gxalpha!

Are you streaming a game?
Okay, so it sounds like the capture card is not reaching the same FPS as OBS is streaming. When you watch the OBS preview, does the capture card output look choppy?
not usually no, i had one last week that was VERY choppy but it was happening in both my youtube live and twitch stream so i thought maybe it was an internet thing, because the output through OBS seemed totally normal, but usually no the stream seems to look fine, im using an elgato hd60 s+
idk if theres a better capture card i should be looking into i just picked this one up a few years ago without researching too much
That capture card should be fine, but it may not have enough USB bandwidth. Is it connected to a USB hub or directly to the Mac?
directly to the mac, i have a 2022 macbook air, it has thunderbolt ports on the side (usb 4) and im using a usb 3 cable so idk if i should get better cables
Hello
Those should be fine for cables. Does the choppiness happen after streaming for awhile? Could be a heat issue.
Can I get help with connecting my iPhone 14 with the 4K X
well thats the thing the choppy video only happened once and i think that was attributed to an isp issue because that went away after i did some router rebooting, its these weird test results im getting from that site that concerns me about issues i may be unaware of, i was streaming last night and the video display seemed fine but when running that analyzer it gave me that duplicate frame error so idk if im encoding in an improper way or what
!logfolder Can you find the log from that stream? Logs have the date and time from when OBS is launched, so it would be somewhere before that stream.
this is the only log file i have from that day, the time of the log file being modified is hours before the stream started so idk if that will have any appropriate info in it

Do you know about what time it started?
ok lemme try to find that
yeah lemme check my twitch
so the stream started around 7pm ish i have several logs between 6:47 and 6:59 then one at 9:29 when i stopped which has a larger file size than the others
so heres that one from 9:29 after the stream

Okay, yeah a connection issue makes the most sense. It's only a teeny bit of dropped frames here, but the instability can come and go. Other streams could have had worse connection. You will want to talk with your ISP, letting them know when this happened.
gotcha, and i have a usb hub that has an ethernet port on it which is connected to one of my wifi satellites im using an orbi 6 router system, maybe its from having the wifi enabled on the macbook so that is taking precidence over the ethernet connection, maybe i should turn wifi off when using that so its directly connected to the ethernet for sure
i have a fiber line with a gigabit connection usually getting 900mbps down and about 400-600mbsp up
Sure, it's good to experiment and see what helps.
ok gotcha, so with the duplicate frames error referring to encoding settings possibly causing it should i be using something different for encoding other than this?
i record while streaming and heres my recording settings
I think its referring to connection
well the part that caught my attention was "This can occur when encoding at a higher frame rate than your content is rendering at." so i wasnt sure if that was an encoder or connection setting that needed to maybe be changed
What this could be referring to, as I mentioned in earlier messages, is that the capture card may not be running at the same FPS as the stream. Like if it's only bringing in 46 FPS when stream is set to 60. The other possibility is connection. You would have to ask Twitch what they specifically mean by that
hmmm ok gotcha
ill make sure to turn off wifi from now on then to see how that helps, thanks for your help/advice!
I hope all goes perfectly for you!

To crop a source in OBS Studio, there are two options:
A. Crop the source directly by holding Alt/Option and dragging the source's resize handles. The sides turn green to indicate they are cropped. Note: the preview and source must be unlocked.
B. Add a Crop Filter to crop the source prior to applying other filters. Note: this filter applies to every instance of the source, regardless of scene.

Hello, I just started using OBS, and I was try to figure out how to stream and I managed to figure it out (window capture - there was a option for the game I was playing), but I was showing a friend and I delete the window capture so I could see what she sees but I am not able to do it again even though she had the same things open as I did. I watched a tutorial and It had an macOs option that I didn’t have. Would anyone mind helping. Thank you for your time.
Howdy! Good morning! I need help making my chroma key setup more clear. I use both green and blue screens, along with two soft lights and Neewer lights in the front. However, I’m having trouble because I can still see green or white edges around the subject. How can I match and smooth it better?
I use OBS Studio with a green screen. The problem is that it’s hard to perfectly match, and I can see white or green edge lines. How can I smooth these edges?
I use a Logitech C920 camera connected to a Mac Mini M2, iMac, and MacBook. OBS Studio is installed on all of them. I also have a soft light and Neewer lights.

Hi! I just downloaded OBS, and I am very confused. Can I use it to create a language teaching video? So far, I can't have a background image in the background, it covers my face. Also, I need to jump from application to application, and they should stay in the background, behind me so to say, and not in front of me and I do not see how it is possible. Can anybody help? Or I need to go back to Zoom? Thanks!
can someone please send the link in to the real obs just in case i get a virus
just go on the official obs website
i got qustion
OBS Studio can be downloaded:
- directly from the official OBS Project website: https://obsproject.com/download
- Microsoft Store (Windows)
- Steam (Windows, macOS)
- Flathub (Linux)
yes you can. you need to bring your webcam layer to the front by just click on the webcam and drag it up above the screen capture. also to jump from app to app you need to select the mac os screen capture option and it will show your entire screen. watch some tutorials on yt. i make educational vids and this is the answer to prayer bro. so much better than anything else i was using.
see cam on top means it's top layer on the recording
you can also change the size of webcam box to be smaller so ppl can see your screen
you can move it around, rotate it, flip it, whatever
from the screen it self
but the order is down there
Hey got questions when I installed it by accident i clicked stream one I want the recording one I have uninstalled it and reinstalled several times I do know how to fixs it

Please run the OBS auto-configuration tool. To use the auto-config, click on the Tools menu in OBS, select Auto-Configuration Wizard, and then just follow the on-screen directions. You can use this tool to get a set baseline settings for your hardware, and adjust as necessary from there.

Can not get python to load under Tools > Scripts. OBS v31.0.0 64-bit Apple Silicon downloaded from web site. Mac is on Sequoia. Trying to use Homebrew installed Python 3.11. My path is: /opt/homebrew/Cellar/python@3.11/3.11.11/Frameworks
I've tried a bunch of different paths, but each time I keep getting: "Python not currently loaded". Any help would be appreciated. I've googled, gpt'd, and gemini'd to death. thanks!
this is a known issue. the workaround is to use the python installer from the python website, then point OBS at the folder /Library/Frameworks
thank you. i had a heck of a time finding any documentation on it. I'll give that a shot.
how come when I close obs it still shows an orange button at the top bar of my computer saying its still capturing audio?
Hello,
I'm looking for some help please with an error that keeps popping up whenever I try to record my two 27-inch monitors using 5120x1440 canvas on macos
The error that keeps getting thrown is:
"Starting the output failed. Please check the log for details.
Note: If you are using the NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date."
Here's a link to the log if needed: https://obsproject.com/logs/Bm1HsAvgtDEvqaA7
- Non-Standard Aspect Ratio
- No Output Session
Apple M1 Max 10 Core 3200 MHz - OK! / Apple Apple M1 Max (not in benchmark DB)
Perhaps it's worth adding that I can indeed record my two monitors using scaled down resolution of 3840x1080. It's attempting to record with 5120x1440 that never works
I appreciate any insight into this
Hello everyone,
First of all: Happy New Year.
I will be running a loop as part of an exhibition. The exhibition will run for 2 weeks and I would like to stream it live for the entire time. I don't care about video at all - if I can somehow upload an image to YouTube. My question relates to the sound: What is the safest and best way to get the signal coming out of my amp into the MacBook and then live on YouTube?
Thanks & all the best
Thomas
Use FFMPEG or just a timeline editor like imovie to export a video of your static image - audio track of your video is the video audio. Then, use "Media Source" in OBS to stream this video. This way, you can safely interact with your computer the whole time as OBS touches no part of your mac.
Media source also allows you to loop the video when the video finishes.
the h264 hardware encoder doesn't support more than 4,000 in either the X or Y dimension. if you need larger dimensions, use HEVC or x264
Thanks
Hi! This has always confused me, so I wanted to ask this question in here. I’m using a 4k monitor, but macOS scales the resolution to 1080p to help with visibility (even though the 4k signal is retained?). With this in mind, would I set the base canvas resolution in OBS to 1080p or 4K? Right now, I have it set to 3840x2160, but I don’t know whether that’s technically incorrect since the default scaled resolution of my display is 1920x1080.
macOS is likely saying that the display is 1920x1080 "logical" pixels, but the physical resolution is 3840x2160. if you want the full resolution of the display in your output, you likely want to set the canvas to be 3840x2160
Thanks for the suggestion. I already tried it with 'Software (x264)' as video encoder and it also failed with the exact same error message
in that case there's probably some other issue with your settings, can you post a log?
!maccleanlog
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
Here's the current log:

- Non-Standard Aspect Ratio
- No Output Session
Apple M1 Max 10 Core 3200 MHz - OK! / Apple Apple M1 Max (not in benchmark DB)
in that log it looks like you're still trying to record with the hardware encoder rather than x264
maybe just show a screenshot of your recording settings in the settings window?
That's weird, I changed and saved the settings, then closed OBS, then reopend OBS, just to double-check
that first screenshot shows your stream encoding settings, which are separate from the recording settings
oops!
I changed the settings as you explained earlier (with HVEC). It works fine. Thanks for the help
Thank you so much!
hello is there any way to remove the background on your web cam? i was told obs removed the option "remove background?
i would if possible like to add a background

There are plugins that can do that, for example https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/macos-background-removal.1691/ (disclaimer: this particular one was made by me, others exist too)
ohh i see thank you kindly 🙏🏻
now where would i click to download. apologies im not to tech savvy
i believe i might have found it mmm check back soon
ehhh ill find a way
make sure the download is not corrupted, if you're super sure its safe, run xattr -r com.apple.quarantine <drag file> in a terminal
Did you follow the instructions behind in the screenshot?
also uh, do third party plugins support count as obs support or not?????
hey , thanks i will try another link
You might need to allow it in System Settings, macOS changed some stuff with the latest version
cool, just saying out of caution, we dont know what you're doing or trying to do, we're not magicians
This in somewhere in (Privacy & Security)
understood
oh yeah, that's the alternative to right click -> open because that method broke
will do thank u
i guess that's the ui alternative to removing gatekeeper from the file via cli
I’ll need to update the instructions for that
ah hey there, the best method is to run the cli command, that makes gatekeeper not bother at all.
i dont remember when apple removed the ability to ctrl+click -> open but its one of the recent major versions.
the ui way requires you to attempt to open it tho
then navigating to privacy and security to allow it
the other one is just easier because its one step before opening and its free from gatekeeper control, albeit it's a more advanced way
That’s a fair point
Unfortunately guiding users to the command line seems scary to some. Maybe I’ll add both ways.
yep that'll be better
i tend to use -rsd because of recursion and affecting symlinks
got it
cool
oh yeah, just add all the different ways because it varies by macos versions too, i dont remember when was the first version to include the privacy and security allow thing
No worries. Thank you and @inner blade for the pointer to the outdated instructions, I’ll update them when I have the chance.
the xattr one is on every version through, the ui changed a bit
one last question how do i add the plug in so it can sow up in obs filters
the installer should've done that for you, restart obs studio
ahh thats right ok
i was going to mention to close obs studio a moment ago
😳 it works!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH THE BOTH OF YOU 🙏🏻
now if only i could add my own background lol

I’m about to give you
OBS Studio recordings can be found by selecting File > Show Recordings. The output path can be changed under Settings > Output.
Can I get some help please
hi, is there a way to capture a full screen application without having it active? like background recording of that app?
Hi, it seems like windows capture on mac will lose the track of some applications if those applications are restarted, and you must re-select them in the windows capture properties, I'm not sure why this happens, but is there a way to get around that? Perhaps identifying window based on process name?
I wanted to move some things around on the overlay and needed to stretch the capture screen to match the resolution and it just won't let me. I can't click on the elements in the preview pane, when I click on them in the list it shows the border with pixels listed and a bigger than normal red square on the grab points. When I go to grab a point, the red just goes away. It's like I locked something but if I did it was by accident and I have no idea what I might have done!
Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.6.
