Hello, have a following task to do:

Trigger automatically a random video (each video approx. 5 min) from the list of 50 files.

The video source should appear on the screen with a delay of 30 minutes between each other.

Smooth movement (plugin) must be applied to it for in and out.

That doesn't exist as far as I'm aware. You aren't the first that wants file naming similar to the way shadow play does it.

It's been discussed if possible to name recordings based on their targeted source, but unlike shadow play, there can and usually is more than one source involved in an.active scene.

I am using a straight up audio only stream right now and the audio is delayed by like 1 second but it actually shows in the Audio Mixer like almost instantly. So it's recieving it very quickly but then something is holding it up for like a whole second

It's probably the code contained in the actual plugin, installers are pretty much always just glorified zip files.

Is there a way/plugin to dynamically adjust a size based on the original input? For example: Lets say the canvas is 1920x1080, and if you want to add the screen of a tablet (thru NDI, or a remote-software like Anydesk), and in landcape-mode it has 1920x1080 (the source has also the proportions of 1920x1080), but when it goes into portrait-mode. the same source has suddenly 1080x1920 - is there a way if it goes landscape-mode into portrait-mode that it automatically shrinks the proportions so the width is shrinked to 1080 and the whole image is centered (maybe to show a background image so the left and right is not just black. And if it goes back to landscape-mode, that it changes the height and width to 100% again (no shrinking)?

If the NDI source does change its size by itself you perhaps could do this through bounding boxes in the transform dialog

there's likely nothing preventing you from implementing this the way you want, however the general expectation users* have around sources is that they don't use as much frame time as possible (while staying within bounds), but rather as little frame time as possible; not super clear what kind of source you'd want to work on that would … not render? just how expensive is your rendering etc?

If your computation does not require graphics thread, you may create anther thread and send frames using obs_source_output_video, or you can pass interchange data to the graphical thread to render.

There is an API obs_get_average_frame_time_ns, which returns the average rendering time at the last 1 second. This code might be helpful to know how much time is remaining in the graphics thread.

Yes, however if the filter can be implemented in a single single-pass shader, then you can write shaders for OBS using one of the various shader plugins such as the shader support in StreamFX, or the OBS Shaderfilter plugin. If the filter requires multi-pass or other complexities then it'd have to be done as a plugin or a script along with any shader(s).

The OBS shader plugins support pixel and vertex shaders.

If you're on the Windows platform they are written in HLSL basically. It's not 100% to Microsoft's HLSL specs though, there are some things that do not work and other caveats, but the HLSL docs are basically the guideline to follow. On Mac and Linux GLSL is used, and HLSL shaders are auto translated with varying degrees of success (or lack thereof).

Anyone comfy in either HLSL or GLSL can get up to scratch fairly quickly though, and learn caveats and workarounds as they go.

As an example, I went from having never done any shader programming, nor any experience with OpenGL or Direct3D, to writing OBS shaders in about a week, and porting Shadertoy GLSL shaders to OBS in HLSL within another week or so. I wouldn't suggest others should expect to do that in such short order as I do have a background in other graphics programming and other things, but it doesn't take too long to get going with it if one is dedicated or has some background already.

If you're familiar with Windows, I would learn D3D11 first. Fewer gotchas, less legacy advice to trip you up.

OK I found a hack of a hack

the plug-ins work properly if the effect is applied to a nested scene. Nested scenes create their own set of problems with move transitions because sources that are in the nested scene are not recognized properly, but by having a duplicate of the source (one as nested and one as not-nested) and hiding the nested scene in case of transition, I can have the best of both worlds, mostly

Not in an as-is basis, the only collections of ready to use shaders available for OBS plugins are the example shaders that come with the given plugin. You might find random individual shaders on someone's personal Github or similar but no organized collections. The best alternative out there is to convert GLSL shaders from the Shadertoy, Shaderoo, and GLSandbox websites into HLSL for a given OBS Shader plugin manually.

what's the best way to test themes when developing them? having to save as admin and then reload the theme gets annoying fast, mostly because I have no idea which qss selector controls what so it's just me changing colors, reloading, checking what changed, over and over

One method is open the theme dropdown and switch between system and your theme (that reloads the contents without a full restart) .

But yes, it's currently mostly a nightmare to develop a theme for a variety of reasons.

Hi, I would like to host some kind of livestream and other people are supposed to be able to send me questions during the stream. A moderator is supposed to collect and moderate them and pick the best ones. Those should then be displayed in some kind of banner overlay in the stream when I answer them. Is there a plugin that helps me with that? Basically I just need something where the moderator can copy&paste the questions in and trigger the display of a specific question.

It also looks like this can be implemented entirely in the web using a browser source as an overlay.

However when attempting to select them in filters like I typically would, OBS can recognize I have VST installed but there are no filters there to select. Has anyone run into this before ?

Great idea! I planned to use Youtube as a source but your solution wouldnt hurt my pipeline very much. Over in #windows-support I was able to figure out that I can run another instance of OBS in portable mode. That one renders at whatever fps I want and I have it projected to a cheap tablet I have as a wireless display. This way I can easily show any media and set any FPS without slowing me down.

The NDI plugin isn't even attempting to load, which means you installed it incorrectly. Were you using the installer, or trying to copy files manually?

StreamFX version is tied closely to the OBS version you are using, if you mismatch them then it wont load or work. If you have the correct version for the OBS release you are using, the second most common problem is having multiple OBS installations installed on your computer, and the install that StreamFX installs to is not the same as the one that runs when you click on the icon to open OBS, so your actually in-use OBS does not have it installed in it.

This can happen if someone installs OBS, and then later installs OBS.Live, or if someone installs both the 32bit and 64bit version of OBS. Or someone installs OBS then copies it to another location on their computer to free up space on a drive or some other reason.

Seems to be a very common thing that people have multiple copies of OBS installed which causes this problem with various plugins not showing up.

Sometimes the person doesn't even realize they have multiple OBS installed or how that happened.

But... alas, I see it every day. 🙂

Be sure to read the StreamFX system requirements, OBS version requirement and other docs, and get rid of unnecessary OBS installs if present. Alternatively copy the files by hand individually between installations (very likely to have problems getting that to work though).

To control from the web on any device (including phones and computers), use OBS Tablet Remote (requires obs-websocket).

basically, you know Settings -> Stream in OBS where you select a server and type in a stream key? it's kind of like that, but multiple servers & stream keys. your internet has to handle all of the bandwidth of each stream, and you can start/stop them individually

@weak escarp Is there a reason that when you have the Transition Table window open you cannot click/change scenes to test them while keeping the window open? It works with the 'Scripts' window.

It would really help making testing if the transitions you set up works correctly without having to open > set > close > test > open > set. Just being able to open > set > test > set > test.

Yes. MacOS. I finally got the audio playing on the other end (Zoom). Turned out the viewer would need to join computer audio, making sure permissions for@ this is set in the browser/Zoom client. Really a showstopper for random, external audiences I can imagine.

You can manage your docks from the View > Docks menu.
You can toggle docks on and off, or lock or unlock docks to prevent moving and editing.

interesting observation here: my windows rig is an NDI source in one of three different ways. either 1) NDI's screen cap hx app, 2) OBS plugin from the "Tools" menu, or 3) OBS plugin, but with a filter on the app capture source to originate an NDI video source.

my mac is receiving whichever NDI stream. the third option on the PC causes the mac to have all sorts of encoding/rendering errors. i assume it's just because it's somehow sending vastly more data or something? very weird.

1. There is an option for FFmpeg default AAC, should I choose it?

Hello all! I am having quite the difficult time getting my Reaper Plugs (VSTPlugins) to be functional in OBS. I just reinstalled everything Reaper related including the VSTs so they're in their normal saved path folders. Do I need to move them into another folder for OBS to recognize them? I was following a guide of some sort that sort of explained where OBS can pickup said plugins. However, when I moved everything and tried to add a VST plugin, it freezes my OBS and then crashes it every single time.

Are the hotkeys ids guaranteed to be stable across obs executions? I am implementing a "state machine" source and as a part of the state machine internal transitions and entry/exit of states i want users to be able to specify unbound hotkeys to trigger.

Is anyone here experienced with the "Move Transition" plugin by Exeldro?
From my little understanding I can use it to rotate specific sources?
I'm attempting to make a circle image (a changing album art image with a circular image mask) rotate counterclockwise infinitely in the same spot(like a CD/vinyl). Every time I set up the transformations and test the move filter, the image flies off-screen.

another thing i remember is i tried using move source with stuff inside of groups and iirc i had all sorts of weird outcomes. not sure if thats related to your issue

since it doesn't work on sources alone

you can apply the filter to the scene though

i dont know if it will matter in your case. i remember having to do something convoluted to get move source working well in groups

that is because I made Source Dock not using the OBS build in docking system, the docks also don't appear under the View -> Docks menu

obs_frontend_add_dock returns a pointer to QAction and just deleting it will remove the item.

The interface of Source Dock is well designed so that I still don’t think it is necessary to add to the Docks menu though.

I don't understand, how would you want to give titles to the chapters? Right now it's all via a hotkey.

I mean like similar way InfoWriter has. You can add several hotkeys and each can have different text to it. So based on hotkey the text is added to it, in case of your plugin it would be title of chapter. Something like this {'hotkeyName': 'ChapterMarker'; 'Title': 'Cool thing happening'}

I would prefer if you could manually give it the title rather than having 7 hotkeys with predefined titles.

One way would be that hotkey is launched via websocket but predefined text fields are taken from OBS itself (like InfoWriter has). Your plugin is great and it would be just little QOL implementation.

Next big thing would be same thing for Replay Buffer :D. But this is beyond me atm how this could be implemented. 😄

To uninstall VirtualCam on Windows:

2. Right click virtualcam-uninstall.bat, and Run as Administrator.
