Depends on workflow and any storage restrictions. If these recordings are meant for "straight to sharing", then yeah, reencode them. Or, if editing, the reencoding will happen in the render.

When you export video in davinci, it lets you set the compression parameters

if you're rendering it in davinci it probably means you're editing it in some way, in that case you always want to keep things in full quality until you do your final master encode, which should also be in high quality, and then you can make a smaller compressed version for distribution

anyway if you don't have much space then it can't be helped

depends on what you're using it for

handbrake doesn't always find room to compress and handbrake is capable of making things larger as well depending on how you configure it. video encoding/compression is a complicated and large topic

Ok haha. I am tasked with dealing with my towns charity weekend event spread over 2 days in august. My specific area has a 4mx2m local event a screen. I also have to live stream this to YouTube to share to the pubs down town to involve the whole town. The stream may also be picked up by the 5x3 screen at the other end of town but that’s via them just viewing my stream.

I’ve worked out how to set scenes. I have multiple specific MP4’s created by the organisers for sponsors set in scenes. Plan to also include some blank backgrounds with these sponsors logos and overlay my camera sources into these scenes. Maybe stage front. Stage left. Crowd view. I’ve also got the app for my iPhone to manual switch stuff in studio mode while out in the crowd enjoying this

I’ve added advanced scene switcher to set some rolling scenes so if I move to them they scroll through them until moved away.

OBS settings are stored locally, if you don't have access to that PC anymore, they are gone. If you need help setting things back up, I'd recommend doing some testing on your own using the defaults, and then asking for assistance in the support channels.

In situations like this I like to think about it as "spring cleaning". There may be a few (or many) things you had set up and were using for a bit but they fell out of favor for something else.

theres an easy way to make a basic one in obs itself as well though

1. make a text source
2. at the top of obs, go to tools
3. click scripts
4. click the +
5. open countdown.lua
6. in the scripts tab that should still be open, select the text as the text source, set the right duration of the countdown as well|

its a thing that was for the most part just happening with chromium based things, chrome web browser, discord app etc.
its windows MPO related but the suggested fix everyone gives didnt fix it entirely for me, but made the appearance conditions different.

at some point i had it that it only happens if discord is maximized, on my secondary monitor only, only if if the monitor is vertical and only if that monitor has no taskbar
which just so happened to be my setup

Most "good" solutions for overhead cameras are good mounts, and that really depends on what your workspace has. You may be able to get away with a mic arm and a lightweight webcam. Or, you need two vertical posts and a crossbar strong enough to hold your mirrorless and lens.

in the past i was using my phone in an overhead camera arm thing and that was working but it was annoying not having my phone handy. so i went out to microcenter and got two obsbot 2 tiny lite cameras and hooked one up overhead where my phone was, and one in front of my face as the detail camera but its less than ideal. im not showing my face but i want to show some close up hand work. i do card cleaning and grading prep...no sales. in other words the mount is ok but the whole layout is thowing me off becuase the main workspace is supposed to be vertical

there are "mic arms" that are specifically meant for that, having a 1/4" thread (found on cameras) rather than the threads found on mics

of course they won't hold super heavy cameras but your average webcam and a bit heavier should be fine

Last time I did a top down or high angle for some kitchen shots, I had to use a 55mm lens on an APS-C crop sensor, so about 80mm full frame equivalent.

Well it adds a lot more than just USB, but there are alternatives too.
Basically, look for powered thunderbolt docks if you need more than what the Satechi and similar docks can do.

Otherwise, don't buy something that doesn't have the expansion natively you need. You will pay for it, one way or the other. Better to buy as native vs external expansion.

Short answer is yes you can, but you'll either need the camera to have a "webcam mode" or an HDMI monitor out that you can patch through a capture card or similar hardware so your PC (and OBS) can use the signal.

mine aren't quite matched 2 sticks are samsung b the other 2 are hynix cjm but timings and all that are matched and they run fine at 3200cl16 1T in sync with infinity fabric and all so that's good but yeah

then I got 2 8 gig sticks that are like uh 2400 or something like that and 2 4 gig sticks around 2666 those in combination with right channel distribution to make proper dual channel a thing can run at 2666 cl15, ie well enough for the r7 1700 box I got in me reserves

oh but like try to match them as well as possible cause the 4x8 I got going are both ripjaws V 3200cl16 8 gigs per stick and all just different batches and therefore different actual ram chips but well enough as not to matter

Please god I need help. I used the AMD cleaning tool recommended me here to clear my drivers so I could update and stop OBS from crashing. Since I've updated, my PC audio has disappeared entirely. After pointing this out, I was shoved off onto r/techsupport which has a faulty verification system that believes I'm using a VPN when I'm not and has autobanned me. I am desperately in need of help and no one is helping.

what audio output decides are you using? USB headset? speakers via 3.5mm jack, etc?

3.5mm jack. It should be the default device after the driver update, but does not show. It is the correct output and can confirm, but no audio is playing in the system at all

I've checked in Device Manager, I've checked my drivers, did a different driver update for my CPU as well and still nothing, now I'm just stuck

unplug and replug the cable. change windows to another default device and then back to the one you want. if the AMD Cleanup utility ate the driver, you can find the one you're missing off your motherboard manufacturers site

but usually windows has no issue just showing some driver on there for you that'll get the basics working well enough. reinstalling your GPu driver usually just defaults you to any HDMI output you have via your GPU, but that's just a matter of reselecting your normal output

Some of those proprietary packaged driver delivery apps inject a LOT of bloatware that can get in the way of even basic operations, let alone playing games or streaming. Removing the garbage then reinstalling the drivers themselves is a really solid idea.

It can be a lot for some users who aren't born into the fires of tech like some of us were 🤪 but that's why we try to help em out

I had to beg a family member to stop using AVG things since it was intrusively... doing... lots of everything in the general direction of the OS and user files, making the machine slow, and I had disproportionately many many tech support requests from them

Yeah, anti-virus isn't what it used to be, that's for sure. I wouldn't use any AV on a Windows machine beyond keeping the OS updated. I more or less approach my 'nix boxes the same way

Just a horrible machine to use, got somewhat better since uninstalling or turning off some AVG things. When they needed a clean OS install at one point for the Windows 11 upgrade I put my foot down and said "Look, I really, really don't think you should have AVG on here, please don't make me install it (and fight it all the time and give you tons of tech support for years, again)" and they were like "yeah, okay"

Ever since Windows has been attempting to have some sort of built-in AV, the cost-benefit of third-party Windows AV has seemed negative to me

I'd like to be on the supported default path and just be careful with what I do on the machine, than take a 100% of the time hit to the usability of the machine and occasionally break my sh** just to avoid a hypothetical adversarial piece of software visiting me

Oh, for sure! A common issue I find with OBS support is a third party AV (often MacAfee or Kaspersky) blocks OBS from capturing a mic or cam.

And it happens out of nowhere. Was fine for years then all of a sudden, no mic for you.

FWIW I still recommend anybody that's reliant on StreamElements for alerts or otherwise seek alternatives, even learn how to manage them locally with something like Streamer.Bot or similar, so there's at least somewhere to go if SE pans out badly. Yeaaaah, PSNR and TOPIQ don't tell a whole lot with upscaling
They heavily prefer low noise.. even if that means the stuff you want is worse or just gone
SSIM maybe tells slightly more true story.. but that's just saying how close the image is altogether

There's a model with 0.83 TOPIQ and 28 PSNR and I think it's better than the model that says 0.93 TOPIQ and 35 PSNR
But it's really liking the lower noise

Having a high induct rate is great for processing volume, but unless we balance our P2B HC as well as Stow FPH, we'll likely end up with unsafe WIP levels, and end up having to throttle to maintain safety. I'm trying to make an RTMP server for my OBS to stream movies and shows.

My goal is to stream movies on my OBS, specifically local files and movies on my Plex/Jellyfin servers on browsers (I'm aware that's no good but I forgot my Outlook password and can't get it back so I can't download the Plex app and I have no idea how to use the Jellyfin app for my Seedbox data) and I want to use an RTMP server to help stream them properly, but I have no clue how to go about setting up an RTMP server or hooking it up to OBS.

Delay would be usually between 3 and 10 seconds depending on what settings you choose; I tried to minimize it and got to around 350 ms, but it was very volatile, the slightest disruption of upload/download speeds would result in multiple seconds of buffering. And quality suffered quite a bit, as well, so expect 5+ seconds in the real world.

a) a paid discord subscription
b) amazon ivs https://aws.amazon.com/ivs/
c) something else I don't know about
You could also use any public livestreaming service like kick.com, but you'd have no means of preventing uninvited access.

Unlisted/private youtube streams are a thing as well, though their detection of copyrighted content is very good.

If you are trying to stream or record with OBS and are getting a black screen, make sure you have added the appropriate source to capture what you are trying to show. Window, Game, and Display capture are the three most common capture sources. If you have already added a capture source, and OBS is still black, please grab your current log and link it here.

@serene torrent I tried nginx-rtmp-module and had issues I couldn't solve, I tried monaserver (in 2018-19 on windows 7) and it worked, but recently (2025) it somehow didn't, I tried something else I forgot the name of and it worked.

nginx-rtmp-module in 2018: if you try to join the broadcast before it starts, it will start correctly when "start streaming" is clicked, but if it's already started, you can't join
monaserver in 2025: receives video, but doesn't feed it to any video player no matter what

unfortunately chrom* clears data after 3 months of inactivity (as in if you don't use a site for that long)
mozilla products at least have the configurable option of keeping history forever but that may make your profile take up a gb from that alone after some years
