After about 2 minutes and 30 seconds, the slowest zstd compression finished. Again it finished apruptly so I could be off with 15 +/- seconds. But it's at a very impressive 465MB!! Best yet, and very good speeds.

I did not know this, but windows can natively decode zstd. This is not possible with zpaq. I have not confirmed if it works correclty or if I did something wrong, but I believe I compressed it correctly.

Honestly I'm liking this newer windows compression tool more and more the more I use it. The only options I feel like it's missing is being able to split files into sized chunks, and set passwords.

I think I might switch to storing things in zstd. I'm super impressed! But I will need to do some more research and testing before, so I make sure I don't fuck anything up.

So I downloaded and compiled zstd just to experiment. And apparently there's an infinite amount of fast presets???

Sure, the compression becomes less and less, but they are also faster and faster. But I'm pretty sure these are procedural presets. I wonder how this is done.

And apparently it's supposed to be faster than "level 1" which is the fastest default speed.

there doesn't seem to be anything slower than level 22. And yes, you need to enable "--ultra" to go beyond 19.

I guess level 23 does exist if you are brave enough, lol.

Interestingly, doing the second layer or pass was actually a lot slower than the first pass, even though there was less data to go through. I guess it's something about how the data is laid out.

What if all the different levels actually just do more and more passes internally???? nah... they wouldn't do that, right?!

My cousin asked me to help him with his website/domain management, and while my knowledge on this stuff is basic, compared to him I am a PhD and noticed that this whole time his domain was managed by someone else and he never had any real access to his own domain

I finished domain transfer, etc and now left with email transfers. The guy who managed his domain is being a lazy bitch when i asked him if he could download the emails and back them up and send them to me and then I will sync them with our servers

So my question is, could i just make multiple accounts on Thunderbird > download all the emails > sync to the server or do i have to do them each account seperatly?

My OBS studio is not working properly I tried on 3 different PCs since yesterday. I have 1000mbps internet via cable on my main pc and via wifi on the 2 others. We had a storm some nights ago here. Now I test my internet speed and on some website it says 900mbps download and 900mbps upload. And on other site it says 900mbps download and only 10mbps upload. it really is tuned for instruments, though... for vocals, the other one I posted is still great [either ft2 (bleedless) or ft3]
found that generally 1024 to 2048 segment size is good, going lower or higher usually gives worse results.. although, 768 to 3000 isn't that uncommon to be better

vocals have significant bleed with piano :/

big beta 6x can also be good for vocals, it's a higher fullness model, but not too much bleeding and not noisy/grainy like the super high fullness models

My thoughts: They noticed sponsors and channels were moving money "out of band" and they had no control of or cut of that money, despite being an ad-tech company. They wanted to bring those transactions in-house so they can take their platform fees/cuts. And possibly streamline things so creators and brands go through them by default, de-normalizing the culture of doing partnerships out-of-band of youtube.com's own interface. Maybe people forget how to strike these deals without the platform, or it gets stigmatized, or digital native folks used to platform capitalism are hesitant to just hash it out in a conversation, IDK.

Perhaps a company should not be allowed to be the middleman providing services to both customers and sellers alike in a marketplace it fully owns and operates (i.e. "platform capitalism"?) Because it just tends to accrue an absolute ton of wealth and box out an entire category of the economy in one company's hands. It's a little too tightly integrated for there to be real competition...

You get massive for-profit companies taking on roles usually taken on by smaller businesses, and even civic society and government in some cases.

The thing where the channel can swap out the ad segment after a partnership ends might be fine though and doesn't necessarily imply going though YouTube to matchmake between YouTuber and sponsor.

Ah, yeah if I have not played a game yet, or am playing it or want to, I avoid watching YouTube videos or live streams of that game in order to avoid spoilers, and if I happen to be watching a video and they have a random gameplay in the background of it that is a game I don't want spoilers, I either minimize the video and just listen, or if they are talking about it, I close the video or bookmark it in a folder like "Cyberpunk 2077 (possible spoilers)" to maybe watch some time down the line when I've completed everything etc.

Personally, I play a very wide range of games, game genres. Anything from 1980s up through current day, spanning a lot of different styles. Here's what I currently have installed for example:

DLC comes in a wide variety of types and sizes, everything from purely aesthetic skins and the like, to multiplayer maps, missions, OSTs, artwork, to full blown expansion packs that are a full blown game practically on their own. I think they should be whatever the developer and publisher want them to be - free or paid, and then consumers can pay for the things that they want to have that cost money, and not pay for those things that they do not think give value exceeding what is being asked for. Let the free market decide. Having said that, it's sure nice when developers provide free DLC, whether they are separate claims/downloads, or they just integrate them right into the main game installation ala Cyberpunk 2077's free DLC, or No Man's Sky for example.

I personally don't buy aesthetic DLC or other very small type DLC that run several dollars to $10 or more for miniscule content/value, I just see that as nickel and diming people to boost overall revenue of a game. But if I love a game and it gets what I'd call an expansion pack, that is still labelled as DLC these days too, and something worthy of the name expansion pack is substantial content, and I don't mind paying for it.

Like the 2 Witcher 3 expansion packs (although I got those for free), and Cyberpunk's Phantom Liberty expansion. All worthwhile paid content IMHO.

Then there are games that are just small DLC farming simulators... like Borderlands 2 🙂 I usually don't buy games like that, and wait 1000 years or whatever until they come out with the Supreme Ultimate Edition that contains the game, expansion packs, and all DLC ever released or ever will be released, just give me the whole friggen thing in one pack for one price thanks.

Then there are the companies that do that, then release more DLC after that isn't covered by the Season Pass etc... <sigh>

I recently bought No Man's Sky on sale at GOG. Reason being, was that I had played the game all the way through when it first came out on a friend's PC that had it installed, and enjoyed 12 hours of it, then the rest was repetitive and boring and terrible. But they put out like 31 mega patches with free content since then, which are basically free DLC and expansions, and sorted it all out, so I got curious how it is nowadays after a lot of positive coverage and comments out there about what it has turned into over time. I like the way they did it, just packing more and more free updates into the game over time.

I mean, it eventually lead to someone buying the game for $26 that already finished it when it came out and hated it... so the strategy worked no? 🙂

Oof, yeah I have some friends that experience that too. Me, I mostly try games and try to focus on what is good about them, and find a way to enjoy them the best I can. But at the same time there are often negatives too, but I still try to enjoy the positive aspects and not let the negatives get to me.

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of my favourite games but when it came out as everyone knows, it was pretty rough. Still a fun game but what a mess it was. I praised it for the aspects that were fun, and was a bit harsh in other areas like how absolutely terrible the NCPD were, the worst police implementation in any game ever LOL. Various other flaws too, but... over time CDPR pretty much fixed everything or gutted and replaced most things that were terrible, and now the game rings all my bells pretty much.

LOL They advertise frame gen as a way to get good fps in games like anyone running ANY game on ANY GPU can use it to 4x their fps and turn their $300 GPU into a 5090... but in reality you need a 5090 to get the necessary 80fps minimum frame rate for it to not be an ugly AI hallucination mess. So in reality, framegen is a feature ONLY for ultra high end gamers with 5000Hz monitors who can get 80+fps naturally first, so they can get 240fps+ with framegen and added input latency, and only in what.... 5 games ever made? Or is it 10 or 20 or 30 now? It isn't 140,000 that's for sure. 🙂

All my monitors are 60Hz, except the laptop which is 120Hz. So the only possible use would be to go from 80fps to 120fps on the laptop, but I don't think that's going to happen on a 1050 mobile 4GB GPU

If anyone is going back and playing Borderlands 1, IMO GOTY version is better than GOTY enhanced. BL1 wasn't really meant to be pretty, I think the original lo-res/more cartoonish look fits the tone better. So give original GOTY a chance I guess.

so when I import that into Audacity, it'll tell me go down like -0.75db to get to 0db
but, it's such infrequent and minor clipping, it probably doesn't really matter

You are probably running into sample peak vs. true peak. You can actually have (...and it's normal to have) audio that the actual waveform is over 0dBFS, but the individual samples are placed in a way that the peak exists between two samples, so you end up not actually losing any data just because of how you're storing it. Basically.

but I just tested with FLAC 24-bit and WAV 24-bit and I can't reproduce allowing above 0db... I think I was doing something strange

In general you don't actually want to have your true peak be over 0dBFS, because it will get screwy with many kinds of lossy compression. That's actually why most services suggest that any audio you upload have a true peak of -1 or -2dbFS, so that there's room for whatever compression they throw at it to do its thing.

Also worth noting, when you're doing instrument separations, it's quite possible that the original instruments are effectively over 0dBFS, but were knocked down to a lower level because of whatever audio they were mixed with, so that greater-than-zero could potentially be legit. Or it could just be an artifact of the separation process. Or probably a combination of all those things.

If it were me I'd just turn it down before doing the separation and call it done.

In order to Stream on YouTube, You have to authorize OBS to use your YouTube account or it can't connect. If you have any concerns about it, deauthorize it and reauthorize it in your OBS next time you stream. Then click "Yes it was me" next time.

Also, just to be clear there, OBS did not give access to anything. OBS was granted access to Google, presumably in order to live stream.

"suspicious activity" is vague and kind of meaningless if no details are given, and can simply mean "This never was done with this account before so it is unusual from our records and we're bringing it to your attention to confirm that it is you connecting to us with OBS."

As I understand it, the 7z format is basically a way to package files and directories together, and then compress them typically with the LZMA2 algorithm.

If you choose LZMA2 of course

7z is an archive format, lzma2 is a compression algorithm. You can stuff compressed data into an archive, but ya don't necessarily have to compress it per se

I also understand that files ending in tar.xz is also LZMA2 but in a more pure form? Meaning no 7z. An interesting discovery I made is that compressing a 8.28GB directory using "level 9" with tar.xz it shrinks it down to 6.94GB. But when I use the 7z app, to make a 7z file with the same LZMA2 algorithm, also on "level 9" it shrinks it down to 6.89GB and at a MUCH faster speed. What gives?

there's several types of tar to choose from. Idk what the defaul one is, it's not clearly specified, but under advanced options there's like 4 different types. I choose the GNU type, since I recognize those letters lol.
