word to the wise, keeping tabs on viewer count will do more harm than good.
can cause either stress, or a sort of depression making you feel defeated and like there's no point in continuing to be live when you just see a zero or one the whole time.

Streaming needs to be about you just doing what you love and sharing a window to it for others to look through if they feel inclined.

Stayed at a Crowne Plaza Hotel for a work party. These are meant to be pretty fancy hotels. First thing when I get there is order an old fashioned at the event bar and I'm told they don't do cocktails. Taken aback I end up ordering a double of glenlivet on the rocks which comes to £25 and they go to serve me it in one of those half sized Collins glasses. I ask for an old fashioned glass and point out which one is an old fashioned glass and then they ask me if I want more ice when its already loaded the brim with ice.

The regular downstairs bar does cocktails. I ordered an old fashioned and they made it in a pint glass. I said that it's made in a mixing glass and they basically mansplained "its not shaken" and I had to tell them how I know what an old fashioned is but that's a pint glass not a mixing glass and then they're like ah yes you want to see it being made

I ask if they have fresh orange juice, fresh lemon juice, rye whisky and grenadine, they say yes so I order a ward eight and tell them the spec in ounces 2oz rye whisky, 1/2 oz orange juice, 1/2 oz lemon juice, barspoon grenadine shaken.

He pulls out either a wine glass or whatever kind of oversized fishbowl looking glass you'd see at tgi Fridays (though around the size of a wine glass, idk what it was) an ask if this is the glass to use / is OK. I say, well it's usually served in a coupe glass but this is ok.

Bartender starts with the orange juice, they open a bottle of orange juice, i should have said stop there but I'm like ok maybe it's good orange juice. I see him fill the glass almost all the way to the top with orange juice, I ask "you put half an ounce of orange juice in right?"
He says yes as i see what appears to be at least a 200ml bottle of oj almost empty and the glass almost full and he goes on to say how this is "basically a tequila sunrise if you didn't add the lemon" dumbfounded I say "what" and he says "oh I'd you swapped out the whisky for tequila and didn't do lemon juice, it would be a tequila sunrise" I ask again if he knows what half an ounce is and explain its roughly 30ml because the ward eight should be red from tbe grenadine, I think to myself ok maybe they don't know imperial measurements so I covert the spec to metric 50ml rye (should be 60 but whatever), 30ml lemon juice, 30ml orange juice, 5ml grenadine. He's like ok I can do this, makes it I take a sip and it's one of the sweetest drinks I've ever had. I ask "how much grenadine did you put in here" he says he put 25ml in I say "but it should be 5ml" and he says how he had to put that that much in to make it red and it wouldn't be red if he didn't.

I say "but I told you it's 5ml" and pull up the recipe on liquor.com to show its 5ml, or close to 5ml, certainly not 25 which is orders of magnitude more. He says "well google can say anything" so I ask if he knows diffords guide he says yes he knows diffords guide so I open the recipe on diffords guide and show him where it says 5ml grenadine he is like oh OK. He then precedes to say how he's not making it again because he says either "I've wasted two lots of ingredients now" or "you've made me waste to lots of ingredients now" I feel like it was the latter but I was too tired to remember. I said that's OK and I get up and leave without paying (for the ward 8)
It's like i was transported back to the 70s
The cocktail revolution didn't happen here.

For context if you don't know about cocktails diffords guide is quite a highly regarded souce for recipes and such so that's why he basically accepted he was wrong when I pulled it up

Also they had awful two ply toilet paper in the rooms. Over like £150 a night I'd expect the good stuff for wiping my ass

For me I have no reason to pay extra for a hotel if the bar isnt' good. I'd never stay in one of their hotels because I can go to a different one for a fraction of the price. Like spending for a luxury hotel is already not good value in my eyes because I'm not there most of the time except for sleeping. If they don't have good amenities to make it worth while I'll just go for acheap one

I think the interpretation of the rule extends to self-promotion and other such things, but frankly, it might be worth explaining a bit, because it can seem obtuse if you aren't familiar with the concept.

Basically, you know how sometimes you have a friend who makes something all by themselves, but, frankly, it kind of stinks, and you don't want to tell them this and hurt their feelings? Sometimes, people don't know how to handle this situation very nicely, and then things can get weird.

By it's self, this isn't too much of a problem, because people can just be quiet for a few minutes and conversation'll move on. Okay, that's fine. The problem that really occurs is, when it's a large public place like this, sometimes one person will post their thing, and then another will do the same sort of thing, and then there's like 10-20 of these back-to-back postings of stuff that's sometimes actually quite nice, and sometimes not-so-great.

/That/ gets complicated because, if you compliment the good-looking stuff but not the not-so-good stuff, then the people who didn't make the really good-looking stuff, start to wonder if maybe people didn't like their submission. The only way to avoid /this/ awkward situation, is if everybody just stops talking for like 1-2 minutes per thing submitted, which can quickly shut down an entire chatroom if people actually try to be well-mannered about it all.

So, to avoid this whole strange mess of people trying to be too nice and so everybody stops talking, it's easier just to say "don't submit links to your personal projects unless it's already part of the topic of conversation", since if it's already part of the conversation, then people aren't as likely to just go quiet, owo.

There's also a bit of leeway if somebody's already got a lot of familiarity with the chatroom. Like, more-or-less, I can kinda throw whatever I want because everyone here already knows that I don't generally get very upset if somebody blatantly tells me "actually, that thing you posted is kinda ugly". But we don't know if somebody new will be upset or not, so it's easier to avoid the possibility of a problem until we know each other better, owo.

Yeah, the extra RAM is useful for video editing, 3D modelling, just about any kind of CPU based compression algorithms, virtual machines, and other RAM hungry productivity software. But another benefit of extra RAM that is almost never mentioned by people, is that extra unused RAM is used by the OS to cache all disk access, so secondary reads of the files are super fast as it comes from RAM based disk cache, which also puts less wear and tear on the storage devices. The entire system becomes a bit more snappy as a result. So if the cost of extra RAM is within budget and not a cost concern, I can definitely recommend getting more, just make sure the motherboard's RAM configuration options will run the RAM at the stated speed without degradation as filling all slots on a board can sometimes require the memory to be clocked lower or other unfortunate limitations.

I haven't observed or tried to observe if CPU based video encoding in OBS benefits or uses more system RAM but I doubt it. I don't think OBS usage itself will benefit from more system RAM, however it potentially can benefit from more VRAM depending on what features are being used.

Ah, it is an open source program for running open source LLMs locally and privately rather than in the cloud.

I ran it on my PC even though I don't have any AI acceleration, just using my CPU and GPU and it was slow but usable, about half the performance of using the LLMs in the cloud roughly, however I didn't give it full access to the GPU either (found that out later).

It used to be you could alt tab out of a game and still control it with the gamepad then the window didn't have focus. Now you crash and die because the controller is scrolling a web page instead ._.

depends on the game from what i've noticed, if it still grabs gamepad or not when out of focus

if xbox gamepad, i'd assume some xbox gamebar or similar integration that makes it work as normal input
