If you use same as stream encoder obs just saves the bits it sends to the server in a file, if you you don't use same as stream encoder obs runs two encoders and saves the output of the second one

It's the /same/ encoder. I mean, the /exact same/ encoder, not a copy of the encoder. So if you pause the recording, you must also pause the stream, since there is not a second/duplicate video that is being encoded. Since you can't pause a stream to the Internet, that means you can't pause the recording of that same Internet-facing stream, too.

when you manually select an encoder, you're creating a second encoder, even if the settings are they same. they run concurrently. if you're using a hardware encoder, you can run up to 3-4 encoders without much impact, depending on the GPU vendor.

Okay, so, originally, Kachin got big on a specific website/service that has a built-in chat client/network/whateveritis. It does not support embedded images.

It does, however, support uploading custom emotes, at 100x100 resolution. Cool! And they can animate, and be up to 500kb each!

The rules allowed putting four of these into a moasic so you can get 200x200. It's similar in concept to a sticker on discord. So, my emotes are named 1-4 for each of the four 100x100 pieces, and 5 for the one-shot smaller-dude.

Rarely, emotes do have more than 5 entries. Kmerp is one of them, and actually did go to 11 at one point. 11 was (attachment) basically, before being renamed to "kpml" for my own sanity's sake, owo.

Anyway, discord only does up to 250 per emote, and 500kb was sheer luck and just what ffmpeg happened to spit out. I still don't feel like trying to cram it smaller, since the only way to would be not-as-gif, so I'd not personally feel like I can excuse the limited color palette, but I also don't remember where the original non-reduced version is. -w-.

I want to be hype for the Ryzen 8000G APUs, but real-world performance and the price to build out a full system may not be that fantastic. (AM5 mobos and DDR5 RAM above 4800MT are still kind of expensive right now.) It's kind of a wait and see thing for me, for both real performance in reviews + real prices at launch, IMO. But I have tempered my expectations to "not out of this world" in terms of value over 5000G series (hard to beat), or performance over, say, a Ryzen 5 7600 (CPU performance probably similar or lower in games, iGPU performance is generationally similar just with more GPU cores and monolithic (read: laptop-style power/perf tuning just higher clocks/power limit) not chiplets).

Also: iGPU video encoder quality for both AMD and intel is worse than their discrete GPU encoders. So, you're gonna need hecka bitrate to get the quality you'd be used to from discrete cards. And it's AMD, so already behind intel or NVidia for encode quality per bitrate. Unless you plan to pair the APU with a discrete GPU. And if you're getting a discrete GPU, why does having such a powerful (but still limited, still integrated-tier) iGPU matter?

So, I really hope they put out some less-expensive motherboards around the time the Ryzen 8000 APUs come out, so the value is there, and so that the 5000G series can kind of slowly retire if 8000G is better at a similar price. Wouldn't hurt for DDR5 RAM prices to come down, too...

So I've been using it for a while, thanks for the suggestion!
At first, I found the dashes at end of words and weird large spacing between words annoying.. but after switching back to Play Books, there's MASSIVE differences between when the word ends line to line that I had just gotten used to and I realize neither are ideal
I've read well over 100k words at this point so it's at least good enough! And it's very customizable so I could tune it more to my liking.. I'm just lazy >.>
Play Books gets a big fat F here for not loading a book over 500k words...
It opened a little over 300k words just fine.. so there's some limit between there.. this one is just barely over 500k and it just says "uploading the epub" and then nothing happens even if I wait a few minutes

It also for some reason shows a smol square instead of an image if it's in the book.. but that's not a big deal

IGPU performance we will probably have to see but the 780m handles games really well and from what i can see is able to stream using obs at good quality settings. What prices for the pc parts would you like to see before it makes economical sense to upgrade?

OBS will not be developed for ChromeOS. The operating system has too many limits in place that prevent OBS from being able to do what it needs to do, and more often than not, Chromebook hardware is too weak to render and encode live video. The Linux Beta for ChromeOS does not change this.

Hey weird question - I'm looking for a method for tagging and setting chapter markers for videos recorded through OBS. I have several hundred hours of game footage I need to go through and somehow get timestamps for individual events set in a place where it can be easily searched by tag, event, character, etc..

I've been looking into MAM solutions, but I've been completely unable to find anything that isn't thousands of dollars or is geared towards use with other proprietary software or files. Does anyone have software suggestions for this kind of archival tagging work? I really want to avoid just writing text files manually for this kind of stuff, and most metadata/tag managers are geared towards movies/tv shows and don't let you define custom field categories or data easily, if at all.

I also for the life of me can't find a chapter marker creation tool that lets you just play back videos at a certain speed, like let's say 5x, where I can scrub/play/pause, and when I find a place I want to put a chapter marker, just hit a hotkey and let me name it, and be done with it. Everything seems to revolve around manually typing in timestamps and descriptions. Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure you can just open a video in something like DaVinci Resolve, and press M while scrubbing to place a marker

and then export with the "chapters from markers" option if you need to export the file with them.

but any video editor should allow for that. Might be a bit heavy handed, but if you're looking to edit that much footage, getting used to using an NLE is probably a good skill to start cultivating :)

Late reply, but: I'm mainly just tracking what is the max performance per dollar, and I'm unclear if Ryzen 8000G series will beat either a 5600G build or a 7600 (non G but still has a small iGPU) build for perf/dollar. Given that the iGPU should be basically usable for encoding and very light gaming on any of these builds. (Also: I am looking at like, a minimum-cost entry-level build that can do the job. If you have an extra ~$100 or two to spare then they'll probably all be within a similar budget. You can make a solid 5600G build for ~$430 USD right now.) That said, a stronger iGPU means better graphics settings in-game, obviously. (Better CPU cores helping with 1% lows.) And I haven't tried encoding on a 7600, so I dunno if it'd get overloaded by a game+OBS too easily or not. But tl;dr tracking that "very tight budget, what's the best entrypoint build at minimum possible price?" target.

Yeah...Resolve is completely unusable in this capacity. Lags like crazy and keeps crashing whenever I try managing my directories of files in the media pool. LosslessCut is, uh...interesting? Not sure I'll get used to the interface but it at least does what I need, albeit in a roundabout way. The closest match to what I need though appears to be Kyno, it lets me set everything up in app, gives me exportable markers and metadata, and even allows a 2 click import into Resolve (which works perfectly fine when editing, just not when managing clips outside of a timeline). Might just have to bite the bullet on that one and hope they don't end support for it or something.

Went through and set up SLD while I wait for OBS to figure out what's going on... then remembered why I didn't wanna use SLD in the first place... I'd need another StreamDeck (probably Mini) to use on the MacBook Air... or I'd need to use the StreamLabs Remote app on my phone (because it's an Android phone, I don't get the 6 StreamDeck buttons free)... Because SLD can't do the remote control of their software via StreamDeck if the StreamDeck is on a different PC. OBS Studio can (though I think that requires a third party plugin). Just another reason why OBS Studio is better.

consoles cpus are equivalente to a r7 2700x(3700x*) nvm, watching a vid from Digital Foundry, it seems to perform worse than a 3600, but very little

but from what iam seeing, seems like a pretty decent cpu is required to carve definetely at 60
