• The aging of SNES MC4 was inspired by MK8's remake of SNES DP3 where they used the track's age (roughly 25 years old at the time of 8's release)
• The desert design was based off primarily Wii U Bone Dry Dunes and GCN Dry Dry Desert
• The anti-gravity bridge was inspired by Wii U Mario Circuit
• The wooden ramp jumps were inspired by 7's remake of SNES Mario Circuit 2 and 8's remake of GBA Mario Circuit
• The glider section was mainly inspired by Wii U Wild Woods
• The straightway before the bridge was a mix of SNES Vanilla Lake 2 and GBA Shy Guy Beach where you had to hop over small gaps of off-road
• The ramp over the small gap and final turn were both inspired by Wii Koopa Cape
• The boost ramps taking you across off-road gaps was inspired by GBA Sunset Wilds
• The finish/start line is designed off Wii U Bone Dry Dunes and 8's remake of GBA Mario Circuit, but it also took inspiration from DS Peach Garden where the start line flag is pushed a bit ahead/behind of where the track actually starts/ends
• The airborne coins after the glider ramp are both inspired by 3DS Alpine Pass and 3DS Shy Guy Bazaar
• The shortcuts that involve a small bit of sand that makes a very tiny ramp are all inspired by the final shortcut of 8's Wii Grumble Volcano added after the devs saw players performing an unintentional shortcut on the track
• The withered pipes were coloured after the pipes seen in Super Smash Bros' Mushroomy Kingdom from Brawl

I believe when designing a Mario Kart retro track, GBA Ribbon Road is the GOLDEN STANDARD

It completely reinvented the track, but it didn't sacrifice any of the track's original identity and uniqueness

And it's the reason I'm not a big fan of the Booster Course Pass and Tour

So many retro tracks just simply don't do this

The inclusion of tricking and half-pipe ramps, while interesting and greatly improving some tracks, many are just 1:1 with their original versions

In 150cc, going at average speed can actually make you go so fast, you actually JUMP OVER THE NEXT JUMP PAD and into the lava, forcing you to slow down

So essentially, it's a section of the track that punishes you for being good at the game
