For those who like some more imaginary maps, I recently made a updated version of the West Coast map to include lore-accurate districts (states) as well with other features such as geological alterations and whatnot.
This is a map of the "Industrial West", its known for its various interconnected 'Factoriesville' that powers the industrial sector of Grand Columbia, familiar yet highly different autonomous regions resides where they play a vital role of Columbia's interworkings and the efficency of the long lasting Atomic Revolution.
Las Cherung for those who are curious would be situated in one the districts referred to as "Cherung" (most likely the name for which the factoryville of las cherung was adopted from.) which would be located in modern day north-west arizona. (though final placement of las cherung is not finalized.)
This may be the final map revision showcasing this particular area of the world as I continue to finalize some early and late storylines. Feel free to observe around and point out any different alteration of this familiar yet exotic timeline.

in the meanwhile, LC development still continues, me and GGshor were working with more in-game mechanics that I have yet to showcase to the public, nearly finishing up our brand new UI system, player-inertias and other physics related mechanics.

Utilizing blocks or attachments in open areas that would behave like a "ambient lighting" if that make sense?
they actually make wonders in giving more vibrant ambients
sadly my brain is too small to have that make sense :(
envision a area with lamps, they have warm colors
although good, you can add a invisible block in the middle of the room and add a faint point light that is either a more saturated color of the lamps to give it some sort of like uhh, lighting decay? im unsure how to word it
especially along side with a mix of the lighting's ambientcolors to make it more vibrant

they do potentially serve a vital role in Las Cherung being some only sources of news outside of LC, but at the moment they are props.

this is not really a full official screenshot but more so a WIP for the outdoor i made, this area is not finalized, considering the super large towering structures behind are placeholders and are not my models
more so this is to show some environmental aspect and visualization of the factoryville of Las Cherung, as well with some environmental ground level fog and whatnot.
but in the future when i get to it, I will make such structures i had in mind perfect for this world.

and obvious mix and merge with other noises to get the result i needed

What is Las Cherung going to be?

okay pardon if i should like im going everywhere because this question does actually make me ponder a lot LOL
Las Cherung, you could consider it a novel-like gameplay of someone living day by day of this fictional place in an unstable world of 1964 (Alternative Reality).
In context, (because im still planning out more lore of this), a isolated "factory-ville" of sorts, the age of the atomic revolution in this timeline has lead great success in innovations and profound stability. However so far from many city centers and reside in the vast desert of the west, it is almost quite autonomous and have its own internal system that keeps things in order. A factory that runs the city, as many resides from mandated industrialism rule of a unforgiving nation. The game will focus on you as the individual that resides in this careful balance, your character's well being and resources of trying to survive day-by-day
It's kinda hard to put it into words because this is very ambitious 😭 and i havent fully gotten a right idea yet, but i guess sort of a normal nearly linear storyline (still explorational i think) experience with choices you makes that will alter your ending in some ways, that is if your character lives long enough to see the conclusion
because las cherung is not just a uhh, nuclear power plants, i guess to summarize it up, its more of a factory that runs the city (producings some goods from the related atomic revolution rather than power production)
so its why ive lately making the outdoors in this post, i'm pretty much building a city,,,

These are the models i made this weekend, a burst of energy has lead me to almost just, mass produced many meshes and texture almost under one sitting.
Plenty of the models are either remakes from their older varients or completely new ones. Some are just experimental designs I am practicing for the artitectural design of Las Cherung. I'll start posting them individually to show you guys in greater details ^^
varients of metal rebars, they are modular and can be extended. I made sure they do not use too many polygons. In fact the holes aren't actually physical holes in the mesh!
Recently ive been trying to fine tune my PBR, aside from now purely making my own smart materials from scratch instead of the default pre-builts offered by painter, im now using transparency mapping in surface appearance to allow me to make details without physically making them.
i remade the window models, and not only that, made many variations of it (the right tiny one is the old version)
heres a 4k screenshot of all of these windows varients layed out so you guys can get a proper visualization on each one ^^
ranging from opaque, to dirtiness, and damages. considering the environment las cherung is in, is often not very cleaned.
i may have spend... hours uhh making these, to alot of models throughout the weekend
I do need to be careful because despite my pace of models i made, I could get myself burn out again especially im rn the only one working 😅
yet i yearn for the project.
i remade my friend's tix fence models he made for our project so they are properly a singular mesh with pbrs.
this angle is uhh not really showing the pbr too well

a more refined catwalk fences thingies i remade so now they are properly scaled. (thats literally it, the one i made before was cursed with scales to the hundreths, now its all properly uniformed)

how did you make the windows transparent? was the window a separate part and you just lowered the transparency?
yeah, kinda (using AlphaMode set to transparency in surface apperance to allow i suppose translucent pixels to be used for transparency

this may be a bit of a downgrade but i remade the nuclear batteries to be more optimized and esentially reduce to almost just two meshes (glass and the case itself)
i really wanna keep them in the game and will make many gadgets with similar styles to it.
despite the slight reduction in detail i personally say they still look great!!

Did you modify the geometry after unwrapping? The label is kinda distorted
You could separate its tris into a different island before unwrapping, and then if you want to straighten the island so that there's no angle distortion
But other than that I think it looks awesome, really wouldn't call it a downgrade lmao

yeah it happen once i try to retexture the mesh with the glass lol
i saved the files to fix it later, i didnt change any faces, it was fine when i was praticing texturing on just the case itself
unsure why it changed when i include the glass to the mesh even they are all properly uv unwrap beforehand lol

What unwrapping method do you use?
If it's something like angle based and you include the new geometry maybe it reorganized it in a different way
ouu i cant remember, not on my laptop to double check but its me manually unwrapping with marking seams
oh yeah angle based thing, i probably didnt properly seam it when i view one of those face angle shades inside the uv editor and noticed some green shades instead of a flat blue

all i really had to do is rescale the label because i apparentally didnt realize it was stretchedd
and triangulate the faces that the label occupied on and that uhh

a redesign in mind that i wanted to do, still figuring out if the material should be the old black metal or copper-like in nature. the glass is tubular and most likely would be more tactile, with a dial for different settings? unsure on that part

I'm really happy how it turned out ^^ adopting a similar theme to the atomic batteries and honestly, alot of gadgets in las cherung would have this sort of, style to it.

in this form i've been posting update of las cherung ever since 2023. For those who stuck around for so long, I thank you for following with my journey to this day.
LC has been changed a lot, especially it's atmosphere. Previously when I started this fourm, Las Cherung was suppose to be a more humble, Cold War-esque era and sorta have that optimism of american cold war stuff (as seen with this old drawing i made in that time period, made around December 17, 2022)
however Las Cherung was changed a lot since then, especially its world turning into a alternative reality of a industrial revolution powered by the atom itself, the fear of a seemingly omnipotent phenomena, and other factors. A near totally different world of 1964. The overall environment would take a more depressing, desperate tone, as seen with some of the other thumbnails i made before.
And i kinda wanted to redraw the character seen above, to their equivalent to this modern Las Cherung world, and I did
I just wanted to show you guys just a new drawing interpretation of some of the old stuff i made back then, to how they are now in this new world.

the first one was good but had alot of polygons
second one was okayish but i felt like it can be improved better
this one is esentially the lowest poly i can get LOL and use some clever techique of alpha channels (transparent color map n stuff) to get the additional details
like the small metal grates and the holes at the bottom
they are very small so i can get away with very low poly counts
and i made some different similar type of vaccum glass tubes thingies but i have yet to reveal,,

i had a really odd dream today where i found some old computer hidden in a closet and took it out
its a computer that i never seen before seemingly dating back from the 1980s, and its apparentally called "Ophelia" and it has a rather turquoise accent in markings, and a apparent "portable computer"
I remember like, opening it, seeing its manual and stuff and then i woke up. BUT I STILL VIVIDLY REMEMBER WHAT THE COMPUTER LOOK LIKE IN MY DREAM
so today i actually from memory tried to recreate that very computer i saw in my dream, and uh here it is. ^^
it feels very surreal to see it now, and probably the only time i would make something from my dream o_o

i did UV unwrap them myself to intentionally make the front facing to have such resolution
so in effect, the rest of the body is actually lower detailed than the front since i made the UV island big to get as much details needed for text

im unsure what gotten in me that started a almost a bit of a mission of remaking so many textures but i have somehow finally discovered my texture style ive been struggling to get for almost half a year (my new textures are now all consistant :)
and with this i made this texture i am so proud of.
Degraded Metal Plates
this texture was based off of a half life 2 texture asset (or alyx, im unsure where), a texture i use alot in earlier las cherung builds from 2022-2023.
ever since i started making materials, i thought it would be a near unreachable task to recreate all materials, especially stuff like metal plates due to their complexity, that metal plate was uhh one of them
during me making alot of new texture sets around a year or so ago, i tried to make that metal plate texture, with uhh not great results
so i am very happy that the latest texture batchs has not only been consistant in style, but i managed to make many materials i thought i cant make, such as the cobblestones, metal ridges, and now this in a span of few days
Thank you guys for keeping me motivated, and to my friends as well who are still partaking in this passion project.

when you do bake normals, ensure you unwrap the low-poly varient of your model only i think
so blender can bake the normals properly from high poly (i had issue where i accidentally unwrap the high poly and gave me a cursed normal map bake LOL

when baking normal from blender (ensuring you are baking to a image from a node where blender will output it to) will be your normal map, so yeah you will have it as a surface appearance on roblox after you bake it on blender, substance painter has their own baking normals when you bake textures with their uhh, high poly to low poly section in the general tab (but i keep forgetting how to use it properly aside you need to the high poly mesh in your system to use it from

they were made aside just Substance painter, but with materialize, some drawing program since i do draw, GIMP, and paint.net to fine tune colors (so if anything you dont really need to rely on substance painter to do this :) it can be done with just materalize if you feel fancy with it) just wanted to show you guys these because im really happy how it turned out.

Today we did a bit of a dev session :)
Not alot of major things but Venerith is currently working on a more refined draggable object system, Anteraska was tinkering with the new Audio API system, and i was implementing some potential Overhauls of celestial bodies seen in Las Cherung. As well with many environmental-real world like recreations as Las Cherung is planned to span over several ingame days for the storyline of the game.
Going out of my way to ensure it ties with real life a bit, and planning to give lunar phases, all of these aside flares are made and rendered by me (including the moon).
They aren't scripted yet but a preview to a total overhaul of how the atmosphere and skies behave. Take a look!
The moon was entirely rendered by me from blender.
I tried my best to recreate the visuals of it from atmospheric events
such as a dim illumination of moon during its waxing cresent in twilight hours.
Again, these celestials bodies are not scripted yet, at the moment they are there for visuals but we have plans to make them all work some other times. ^^

"The story begins here, an autonomous city deep in the industrial sector of Grand Columbia. One of thousands that makes up the "Industrial Sector", a unanimous western territory empowering the Atomic Revolution. Established its roots when the Atomic Revolution takes hold decades ago, forever changing modern society in a technological revolution unseen before. Las Cherung is a pinnacle of what a ideal Factoryville should be, having its own governance, laws, and productions. These cities are specialized, shaped by Columbia's ideals to ensure the Northern Hemisphere is kept upfloat in demands, quality, and quantity.
Citizens from the east are enrolled here during the Mandatory Industrialism Act of 1958, a 4-6 year conscription in efforts to stablized the northern economy. Millions of people would soon have a taste of a true industrial life.
Yet the story is not of prosperity and hopes, but a story of tragedies, the horrors of these unregulate factoryvilles. Poverty runs rampid in these Factoryvilles, corruption, and hazards of the workforce. So isolated from the rest of civilized society, its demanding on the soul and mind. Generations behind in technology seen from the prosperity centers of Columbia.
Many will not survive this conscription. Many will never return home. Its a truely competitive environment, a system that favors the production of fissile goods, nuclear technology, and the prolongevity of one's self.
Despite this revolution, the house of cards in which Columbia and the rest of the Northern World begins to fall apart. Political and economical turmoil ravages and threatened this carefully balanced stability. The Decay is something that many feared, a process that many will avoid at all cost. The day is October 7, 1964, the reign of Columbia has began to fragment akin to fission. A chain reaction of a counter-revolution has began, and yet such news has not arrived to those in the Factoryville. The people are not aware, until the decay rears its ugly face."

However such stability is not permenant, the nation that fuels this revolution has fallen under immense political, economical, and ethical turmoil which threatens their several-decade-long regime and the rest of this radicalized society. Yet such news has not reached the people of Las Cherung. The harsh environment and the city's industrial paranoia make such news hard to come across.
Yet you, one of many unfortunate souls of the industrial workforce, will yet to realize the predicament you are in. now i've gotten into this stage, I will now introduce you to all what is this landscape Las Cherung takes place as its not just a fictional desert.
Las Cherung is taking place in a Real-World Location, in otherwords i am (with great insanity) recreating this real-world location known has Hurricane Valley, North Western Arizona. (may have a different name in this world)
Inbetween these two peaks will be the factoryville itself. It is a massive area i am working with that I myself may not even know how this turns out, so i will quickly mention that i can't make much promises as im going into this esentially solo just to see if its even possible
it was a idea i had for the longest time and im taking it for my team to do this (as they focus on mechanics, i will be going hard on this)

This is all pretty awesome – but I am just wondering, especially with the terrain, how will optimisation be handled? Will there be chunkloading or some sort of low streaming enabled distance?
Usually we have the roblox ambient culling in mind and me trying out practicing LOD (level of details)
we will see until i get maybe halfway through the map to see what optimization we should do
it is on my mind for sure and i even asked my dev ggshor about my concerns lmao
so i guess again, more so those two things in mind and maybe some interventiona ourselfs to make it more optimized, i'll update if we began testing peformance as i progress with the map

its, surreal to see myself finally began creating something i always wanted, a official map, environment, no test builds or experiments
a real deal, something for me to put across and begin finally building las cherung to see where it will go

While im continuing working on the map, i thought to maybe drop some lore snippets from "The Decay" (a summarized version of it i think, no illustrations or anything fancy for now)
These lore snippets as i will remind again don't really tie to las cherung itself but from the actual events from the state of the world las cherung takes place in.
__ THE NORTH AMERICAN WIPEOUT __
The North American Wipeout (commonly referred to as "Wipeout") was a series of environmentally cataclysmic events that led to the extinction of hundreds of common species admist the Atomic Revolution. During the 1940s, with the heavy establishment of factoryvilles across the American West, pollution from unregulated practices led to mass contamination of radioactive rare-earth elements that poisoned the North American ecosystem within the Industrial Territory. This untreated poisoning would eventually devastate the careful balance of the ecosystem and result in thousands to millions of wildlife deaths, and many common species would become critically endangered or functionally extinct.
As a consequence, insects would overpopulate and riddle the factoryvilles with massive infestations. Disruption of the ecosystem led to a cascading effect on other regional wildlife across North America. By the mid-1950s, thousands of species had reportedly gone extinct.

For those who love to see cartography (especially fictional cartography)
In the world of Las Cherung, referred as "The Decay", a heavily fictionalized timeline means entirely different nations that exist in this timeline, the more notable one being "Grand Columbia".
-# note, this is a very summarized version from the snippet of the decay in which I haven't fully settled with the ideas, this may change in the future.
To provide insights, Grand Columbia in this world is a successor to the previous United States of America century prior, and uphold different government structure until it became the more recognized 'Granda Kolumbio" that subsequently spearheaded the Atomic Revolution.
There are many different nations in this world that follow suite in the Atomic Revolution, referred as the "Northern World" or "Protomica" as its more officially known in this world. But in this case, I made a map of Grand Columbia specifically to showcase all of its states / divisions. Feel free to look around into this ... engimatic federation

Hey guys, I feel like I should update on you what's been going on as this is probably the longest break I will be taking, and most likely will be longer. I'll quickly summarize what's going on because I don't want to leave you guys in the dark
Unfortunately, personally speaking, life has been on a downhill :( I won't specify what's going on with me but, I'm not holding up well and immense pressure has been put on me as I accommodate to whatever is going on in real life. Things feel quite bleak, yet I'm too stubborn to let go of this project, simply can't. My friends have been supporting me immensely while I try to go through these tough times, and I can't thank them enough for all they given. I really hope I can bounce back up to continue developing.
So when I say this, thank you Quantum Science and everyone else for so much support with this seemingly personal project of ours, I will put much faith on my friends to keep things going while I recover and adjust. ^^

It really means a lot, and I hope I can get my energy to come back like I used to.
After all, Passion is what I need to pursue this project, I don't know how much influence Las Cherung has on others, but its a wonder to see others projects.

It’s fine to take breaks, don’t feel an obligation to have to constantly work on this

Thank you guys for reigniting my passion as I try to readjust my personal life for the past month.
I have found new perspectives to take this project into, Las Cherung, a project I never thought I will commit 3 years of my life into. I won't stop regardless what life throws at me.
Not until I share me and my friend's passion to the world. <3
Give much appreciations to my developers who I considered my close friends. They deserve the recognition for their commitment into this project.
Not sure what the future holds for me, But I hope one day I can see this being completed.
