Anybody familiar with Blender Geometry Nodes? I need help with something
I have a single plane mesh with a solidify modifier and a geometry tree that creates 10 instances that transforms them upwards, and randomly shifts and rotates them
In the Mesh, I have a vertex group of verts that I want to randomly move for each instance, so I put the blocks at the end of the instancing tree
The problem is that the Geometry input for Set Position receives Instances rather than literal Geometry I think, thus I can't select individual verts to set their position; anybody know how can I convert the instances into geometry so that this can work?
I have checked that the verts translation tree works when I replace the Instances input with a Geometry input from the group input

the constraints might be turned the wrong way
they all have to face the right way
I wouldn't even use hingeconstraints, animation would be way easier
Via tweens or rigging the door and using an actual animator
Hingeconstraints are exploitable and aren't very reliable, at least from my experience
They're also terrible for adding depth to animations
You may not want that which is fine but if you wanted to spice up your work then hingeconstraints become harder to work with overtime, not to mention it adds more work to your scripts
and id imagine performance heavy
I dont know how hinges work performance wise, but I know if you don't use tweenservice correctly it will eat up a lot of network

i primarily only use hinge to make stuff spin (like fans or etc)

Yeah I can agree that hinges are much better with rotating objects like fans, and are also very easy to set up compared to tweens and even animations

- Open blender
- Press tab to open edit mode
- Press 3 to be in face select mode
- Press A to select all faces
- Press Ctrl+B to Bevel (the more you move your scroll wheel up or down give you more or less bevel)
- Go to the tab with the wrench icon and press add modifier and add a Edge Split modifier
- Exit edit mode by pressing tab
- Right click and press shade smooth

did you do it in blender
I used both blender and substance for it, i unwrapped a cube in such a way that I can easily crop out the individual sides, then subdivided the cube and smoothed it into a sphere, keeping the square uvs
Then in substance, baked the mesh maps and used position gradients to make the colors of the sky itself (the white line is for figuring out where the horizon is)
Then exported the textures in 4k, cropped out the top, side and bottom faces, and uploaded those to get the skybox
I can show what the uvs look like
that is a really weird tactic
I thought you'd just make an hdri and convert it into a cubemap
but that sounds very versatile

edge splitting is not for shading, it's a pretty subtle mistake
shading you can mark edges either via the automatic angle thing, or by individually marking edges as "sharp"
what edge split does is to literally split edges, so you have overlapping vertices and edges; the shading is a side effect cause from the faces no longer being connected

This effectively means nothing if you are going to put it directly into roblox, as they handle geometry differently
but it can complicate it literally anywhere else

Alright so, here are some things you should consider when deciding this

Capability
Roblox is a 3D oriented engine tied to a platform while Unity is a general purpose engine where you can publish your work on several different platforms. You can also achieve many more things more efficiently than Roblox, such as 2D and VR. Roblox can do both of those things, but it's nowhere near as good as Unity -
Costs
Roblox studio is free to use regardless of your income, however nearly every transaction that is made within your game gets reduced to about 70% (with indirect transactions such as avatar item purchasing being lower, which are referred to as commissions). Unity will cost based on your revenue, but is also free to use. -
Multiplayer support
Roblox instantly takes the W in this category. Even though its connection to a platform was the caveat in a previous category, its a major advantage here. Roblox has FREE multiplayer support. If this is the type of game you want to make, having multiplayer support would normally cost a lot of money since data isn't being stored on the computer but rather through cloud services where other users would have to see on their end. -
Learning Curve
This is more of a subjective category, but since Roblox is a platform made for kids, having a better learning curve is natural. The interface is easier to understand, the coding language is easier to learn than Unity's, and the building system within roblox allows you to skip the traditional learning curve with 3d modeling
In summary it really depends on what you're going for. Do you want to learn a harder engine that is capable of doing more things or would you rather use an engine thats easier and connected to a platform which allows free hosting and moderation of your players, albeit limited

If youre a beginner developer I highly advise not learning blender right now, its quite difficult to use and you dont want to make the process of building too jarring

If you're already doing this, good going
But if not, I highly advise keeping a blank dummy next to anything that's supposed to be ergonomic (i.e. desks, control panels, furniture) so you have a good reference for how big everything should be
For example with this sort of a desk I'd advise you make the surface that has the actual buttons/controls on it begin at a height of around waist to lower chest so that it's not too low either
With that ridge I'd guess you're supposed to be able to sit at it but I could also be wrong
In general it's good practice to always have a dummy next to what you're building 👍
