Currently working on a boat that floats at just the right height, but I need to add some small bits under it to make it more detailed (and add things such as rudders & propellers.

However doing this makes the boat have a higher "floating position"

Adding any brick underneath the boat causes it to just settle higher up in the water, and I really need a way to tell the game to not do that.

boats have a predetermined height they float at, and that seems to be calculated by the grid's size & shape

It wouldn't really matter that much, but i'm working on the only type of boat where that would be an issue, a ferry

since I need the entrance of the ferry to be close enough to the road level that it won't be too annoying to make a smooth ramp

maybe a flagpole up top could help offset the extra bricks below?

don't think adding more up top will lower it unfortunately

although i haven't tried that, so i'll do that when im next on the game

hope it does work for now, having a controlled point of buoyancy for boats would be great though.

Forgive me if I'm understanding the problem wrong, but weights do work for controlling the buoyancy, you just have to use rather large mass to offset the low default density of bricks.

Place the weight close to where you want center of mass to be, then add offsets to fine-tune the balance. Then add size in each axis to increase stability

I avoid placing weights as much as possible as it completely messes with the physics of the object

and I wouldn't really call that a solution to this problem as that's just not precise enough for what i need

I need to just increase or decrease the height on the vehicle that it chooses as the water level point

I want parts not taken into account for vehicle collision to not affect how a boat floats

But I think a Float-Offset Height on wheel engines could also solve this issue much nicer

since you'd be able to adjust that with wires and make submarines
