#Do the job or rescinded the offer ?

So I was offered a full time SWE rotational program role last November and I accepted. But a while ago I get assigned to my department and it’s not something I wish to do as I feel that it’s useless for my career(goal is backend engineering). I’ll primarily will be developing features using PEGA(a low code gui platform) and RPA. I’ll also be doing testing with selenium. I feel that I got baited tbh. So for the past few weeks I have been applying for jobs trying to get something else. The thing is my current job starts in 15 days and I also need to relocate there. So, if I get something in like a month or two I’ll have to pay lease breaking fees for housing. Therefore, should I just rescind the offer? The money isn’t bad considering LCOL and it should cover the leasing breaking fees among other things. But 40 hours a week is a lot of time that I can spend being more productive in my job search.

If you made it this far, thank you 😊

I wouldn’t quit a job without another job lined up

@hollow nymph Ok, lets say I start the job and a few weeks later I get a another job, do I just quit? Wouldn't that look bad?

If its a couple of weeks then you could leave it off your resume.
The only people shitty with you would be the company, and if you're not going to work there ever again because it's a low-code prank then all good?

#

I would see if you can take a room in a flatshare and maybe avoid the lease that way? Also certain money is better than no money and your job search could take another X months.

And don’t put on resume

well if I wait a year then I can get a better rotation but a year is a long time. Also for new grads does experience matter or is all about leetcode? If its the latter then I was planning of just staying at this job until I get a better tier company via lc grind instead of just taking the next relevant job. Like the experience doesn't seem that useful(QA testing seems to be the most useful thing here) but its a F500 company so it would look better than a no name company on resume or one of the WITCH companies.

Plus all of those no names companies and WITCH are offering me ~10k less and shitter perks blobnotlikethis

Ok well I mean it's been like 10 days what did you decide on

#

Honestly if you are going to start, I'd get 2-3 months in to learn the company and this no-code product, stack some cash up, bro down with your manager the whole time and see about an internal transfer.

I don't know about the typical new grad experience either, I had 5YOE in marketing before getting my degree and applying at marketing tech firms

10k difference is a bit much but honestly I'd take a 5k hit to be working on something good

@digital pulsar I start next Monday and have been looking for places to stay in the area atm(mostly extended hotels, sublets, airbnbs) and have been having applying and interviewing this week and will continue next week as I WFH 3 days a week.

I'm a min - max type of person so wasting a year on something irreverent isn't good.

So quick update I have been working for the past 3ish weeks and been interviewing elsewhere and I might get a offer soon. Question am I screwed when it comes to the background check as my current job isn't mentioned on my resume and I would still be working when and if I sign a potential offer letter. I plan to quit after signing and clearing the background check.

The company you want to join will ask you what your notice period is.

You'll give them what's in your current contract.

It will be fine.
