hey! so you know how after a bit, salaries of mechanical engineers in the US peak at like 150/160k. I was wondering if it would be worth it to get a masters in CS (if you already have a bachelors in ME and a few years of experience) in order to maybe increase that salary cap and expose yourself to better, higher paying jobs (specifically as a mechanical engineer in tech related fields or even as a fully blown SWE)?
#Masters in CS, worth it??

depends what field and your priorities ig
i am from NYU MS CS and i know quite a few people who got into nvidia/meta etc for computer vision, AI, software engineering etc making 175k-200k out of masters for reference
but then again, think about the opportunity costs, 2 years of loosing money instead of earning something.. u would end up with loans/student debt and even if u dont, u could invest the existing money u have and are earning, while also getting salary increments for your current specialisation. compounding interests are a BIG deal. and in the end, u will still be taxed close to half of your paycheck once u graduate
taxes + compound interests usually make it somewhat unworthwhile to go for CS in a sense.. but the ceiling in CS has been around 400k+ (most of my cousins/friends with 5+ years of experience earn that much or more)
