This is up to your intuition about the person, only you can invent some kind of administrative excuse or understand if they'd be over-offended.
I'm in favor of pay transparency always and everywhere especially among friends that might negotiate together.
So many you can make up for it by offering more organization and sharing in the future and offering to discuss negotiations together to advance each other's careers.
Make a group of salary negotiators. Now you disclose to the group that you're actually making more and explain why you were being discreet and because it's aimed at the group your friend won't feel singularly betrayed.
