what are your thoughts on Akamai and being an SDET at the company
I feel like this is a moot question. Any answer to this question is not gonna answer the root of your concern which is you wanting to be in an SDE role, so im not entirely sure why this question was asked and it doesnt reallllyy matter at the end of the day IMO

Do top tier companies like MAANG companies take interest in people from Akamai?
why wouldnt they? i wouldnt focus too much on company name and more on the work you are doing.

#

Is it true that SDETs are looked down upon as people who couldnt receive an offer for a “normal” dev job?
I have personally never thought this and have literally never heard anybody else think this. Maybe its just because of the media environments i tend to consume myself with. Either way, people are gonna have something to say about anything you do in life whether that be career, relationships, health, wealth, etc. Just focus on you and what you need to do. If you’re wanting to move into SDE, sounds like you need to start updating your resume (#973598253620789308) and begin applying to jobs. Another alternative is to see if you can move to an SDE position within Akamai.

Some SDETs just do manual testing all day while others are allowed to work on some development stuff and im not sure which camp recruiters see Akamai
well i feel like youve just answered your own question? it would depend on whats listed on your resume, if your resume has a bunch of testing stuff then thats what they will see. Ive personally never heard of Akamai and im not sure how popular of a company this is so I obviously cant provide any context there. However, i think maybe youre thinking too much about it like your experience is your experience, all you can do is just emphasize the important parts and send out the resume like to sit and think and stress yourself out about a scenario that really isnt that big of a deal doesnt sound very helpful

Recruiters want to see somebody who has relevant experience for the role they are trying to hire for. I think it would be a waste of energy to try and guess what a random recruiter from a random company MIGHT think of Akamai and furthermore think of an SDET from there

#

are you from the US? is Akamai meant to be like a household name or something ? Im just maybe trying to understand why the company is of such a large concern. Like do they have hella employees or something?
