I've been a "Data Analyst" for about 2 years (In quotes because while that's my title I actually do the work of what you might consider a Data Engineer or an Automation Engineer). Doing this job I've gotten quite a bit of experience doing automation with Python, from Kanban operations to data cleansing, ETL, and general automation of mundane tasks.
I took an interview for a Cybersecurity Analyst a couple of weeks ago at a really good company (Largest Defense company in Europe) and to my surprise they basically only seemed interested in asking about my Python automation skills throughout the entire interview. I ended up getting offered the job the next day. Not only that, but the salary I was offered was 7k over the salary listed in the job posting. Obviously I was floored, dream job at a dream company and an insane starting salary.
What I'm worried about is the security part of my security analyst job. They obviously really wanted my automation skills, and I've got no problem bringing those over. Aside from automating kanban operations (which they mentioned they wanted), what sort of things do you automate in Cybersecurity that I should prepare for?
Also, my lack of experience in Cybersecurity makes me worried about not knowing things. I have a degree in Computer Science with only general knowledge of security. I have the Network+ certification and I'm studying for Security+, but have no real practical skills in security. I want to succeed at this job, as security has been a dream of mine for a while, and I don't want to lose my way in.
Any advice on what I should study before I start? I'm waiting for my security and background checks, which can take a few weeks. Then I have my 4 weeks notice at my current company to do before starting. Also, dealing with impostor syndrome I guess!
