RESUME ADVICE (SWE/SDE) This doc is to address common issues that are seen in resumes all in one document. We highly recommend you read through this and make changes accordingly before posting your resume in the resume-review channel! These tips are ones gathered from recruiters and SDE’s at all ...
u basically put every technology out there in your skills section
thats pretty misleading
no way u know em all
idk, i mean the guy went to grad school for cs
he's had some time to learn those skills
that was my first thought too
every language and skill known to man haha
Try to dabble in everything
So I should remove things that I've used in < 2 projects
Have you had work experience yet?
No
How much of those skills do you feel comfortable with?
Everything except Blockchain
I just ask because that’s a very wide stack of skills
its too much lol
i think any recruiter worth 2 cent is gonna be like 🤔
u can see how many of us just in here alone are like 🤔
I’m surprised to see experience with big data with no work experience
So .. I gotta take out things I know to make it more believeable
So what do you recommend removing
For a software engineer role
u "know" but do you really know em?
I have a specialization in Databases Management
Im not saying im proficient in each one
that doesnt sound like it contains blockchain crypto stuff
or cloud
or IaC
or big data
do u see where were going with this
im not on trial here, so do you have any tips
Then why put it on the resume?
have you read the doc i linked
My tip is to think about what job you want and which skills you are actually proficient in. From your resume you seem like a game dev, full stack dev, data engineer, cloud engineer, MLE and AI, and blockchain dev
Ive been applying to full stack dev jobs, software engineer jobs
I'm looking at the doc right now and changing mine to use Jake's resume and following the guide will have done by tonight
I removed the blockchain related information on the resume
I've been applying to 75% software engineering jobs, 15% full stack jobs, 5% cloud, 5% mle/ai
So I kept those bits in there
At this point I'm desperate, but if removing the things that make my resume sound unbelieveable helps my chances, ill do it
So I should remove the gameunity project and the smartpredict?
we’re not putting you on trial, just trying to make sure you understand why we’re saying what we’re saying and see where we’re coming from
So this is better
a lot more digestable yeah
which AWS services did you use?
dont need to say “Angular/Angular JS”
would make React and React Native its own thing
same with C and C++
? what did u use within AWS? what services? EC2? DynamoDb? S3? u said u used AWS in ur projects + skills section
which ones do u have experience with
I used Ec2, S3, Rekognition
should include that in the bullet points where applicable
naw
have u done any sort of extracurriculars while in school? or u just been going to class and then going home
You have the same project listed twice
For Twitter sentiment analysis how did you build a model? Did you use pre labeled data and deep learning model, analyze accuracy, then try classification on unlabeled data? If so deep learning and natural language understanding would be good to put on your resume
