I'm very new to the industry with no college degree and desperately get a job, however I think my resume isn't very well done. I'm not exactly sure what I should do to make it look better and was told to not include my customer service job since it's not relevant and not very long. Any advice is appreciate and I voided all identifying info so that's why it looks kinda weird.

that line that you have that describes the projects, i would turn it into a bullet point

#

Virtual Vending machine application…

  • Created virtual vending machine application where users buy products and vend correct change using Java.
  • Leveraged File I/O to load and store all user transactions.
  • Implemented functionality to allow users to deposit money into the vending machine
  • Integrated product sorting to allow for seamless product deposits, increasing efficiency of the application by XYZ%.
#

would recommend doing that for all of the projects

#

the skills section, make “development tools” and “methodologies” also left aligned , beneath “backend”

#

how long did u have ur customer service job for? if u had ANY job for like at least 6 months, it would probably be worth adding for a couple reasons

  1. showcase soft skills
  2. show that youve actually worked a day in ur life
  3. u have the room for it
#

other technical things you could add include

  1. hackathon projects
  2. open source contributions
  3. any volunteer work u did that involved coding

Oooo okay

I tried using a template given to my by a program I was in but I haven’t gotten many replies. So is it okay to add jobs that arent relavant to the field I’m going to?

u can maybe just add 1 job. Your resume doesnt need to be chock full of irrelevant info but i suggested adding it for the reasons i mentioned above

I added experiences and changed the bullet point style while also keeping the skills aligned because then it would go over a page

move experience to the bottom

#

add a small amount of whitespace in between each project to get rid of the awkward gap at the end of the projects section

Used a thorough understanding of APIs to establish…

  • fluff

Used Spring to establish..
say “Leveraged” instead of “Used”
