I'm a junior software developer in a support position, and my manager recently has been talking about becoming a mid-level dev.

The problem is, I originally joined the company (my first job) to eventually move to more development work (not support), but for the past year and a half I was stuck in the support team (the dev has stopped expanding so I can't move there)

In support we mostly fix bugs, implement some small features, so I barely got any development experience. Mostly just debugging, talking to clients and product owners.

I've applied to a couple of junior/mid positions, and honestly I find the coding tasks far more difficult than I thought I would.
(the tasks aren't from places known for being extremely selective)
In the interviews that I have had the interviewer always mentioned my lack of knowledge/experience in development.

How do I move into a genuine development position when I'm severely underqualified for my experience?
Apply as a complete junior?
Or is there some material I could study to bridge the knowledge gap?

Learning the material you need to fill the gap would be good
