not a fan of this formatting at all

#

make ur align consistent throughout

#

dont go from left aligning to center to left to center

#

just left align everything

#

did u blur out the name of the sections or something? why arent the sections labeled

#

just to be completely honest, this resume would NOT get you anywhere near a data scientist position IMO

#

this resume would get u into like some sort of management position maybe🤷🏾‍♀️

#

and yes usually for data science u are usually wanted to have a masters in DS and/or a strong background already in DS

#

so IMO this will be a quite difficult transition just on the outside looking in

I don't know why the sections weren't labeled, it seems alike they were left out in the copy/paste. Almost makes me want to do a screenshot so you can see the real thing. It was Data Scientist at the top, above the buzzwords was core competencies, above the jobs said professional experience, technical skills above the skills, etc.

maybe if u can follow that advice in that link i sent, get some projects on your resume that use relevant data science technologies, you can try applying to bio-tech ish type companies and try and leverage ur chemistry and tech knowledge to see if they can work with u on a data science sortve job

I don't have projects on my resume. Would you honestly recommend totally re-doing it? I spent 300$ on that and I never had a good feeling...I had to constantly fight with how they worded (i.e. lied) on my qualifications/what I did. I have a github portfolio that shows I know how to use the technical skills I mentioned

#

Do you think I should be going for a data analyst position, or would it likely be a downgrade to my current job (making ~65K in a low cost of living area)

“I dont have projects on my resume”

  • I can see that. You should make some if you dont have any already.

“Would you recommend redoing it”

  • yes

“I spent $300 on that..”

  • 🤦🏾‍♀️

“I have a github portfolio that shows I know how to use the skills I mentioned..”

  • I dont understand what you mean by this. What exactly is on the portfolio? Is it a showcasing of a bunch of projects or something? Like a bunch of Repo’s?

“Do you think I should be going for data analyst positions”

  • It may be easier than trying to get into DS but you should read job postings and see what those jobs are looking for

“Would it be a downgrade to my current job..”

  • I think this is ultimately your decision. Your current job has nothing to do with DS as it looks rn so if the end goal is to end up in DS eventually then staying at a non relevant job is not gonna help u upgrade to the job you want

Understood. I do have some projects, but they aren't amazing or ground breaking. It's analyzing 1million beer reviews and asking data questions, or doing some basic modeling on car features to predict gas emissions with a simple regression, or visualization of data pulled from a video games API (https://ryanriparetti.github.io/)

I don't know, I see the template seen here (https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/jakes-resume/syzfjbzwjncs) and it looks so much better, but they claim to optimize for ATS.

Perhaps i've been doing this wrong, but I've been looking for data jobs that work with python and pandas rather than looking for some niche field like how do I use my chemistry knowledge in a data science world, etc. That and the fact I don't know what I'm qualified for gives me a tooon of questions/anxiety I guess because I dont know what to do.

I really should just use that jakes resume template, but it'd have to be totally redone.
