#When do I start doing Dev stuff

Developers gather requirements, create design documents, and develop implementations.

I get tickets about bugs in existing code bases and find and fix bugs.

When in one's career might one expect to do the Dev stuff mentioned in paragraph 1? How does the transition look like from what I'm doing to doing the paragraph 1 stuff? Are there better environments such as startups that can get me doing paragraph 1 stuff faster?

I’d say engineer is a better term not developer

^ This. Software Engineers do all of architecture / requirements / all that stuff. Developers are more about writing the code to do all that stuff.

To a certain extent, immediately, but it depends on your company. It's not uncommon for new grads to only get tickets that are fully fleshed out, but learning how to handle ambiguity is part of maturing as an engineer
