this is going into #mental-health territory

#

as for your career, have you taken any long vacations recently? are you wanting to stop working all together? surely after 25 years you have decent amount saved up to where you may be able to retire early or just do something part time

+1 on what KJ has said, there's a chance that you're just really burned out, or maybe there's a chance that you don't find as much meaning in work anymore.

Something that has helped anchor myself in life is the book "Man's Search for Meaning" by Dr. Viktor Frankl. It reads like a tale from a Holocaust survivor, but has a lot of good ideas IMO on what motivates people to continue on living.

Mental health is not an easy thing to deal with, and takes a ton of introspection and often help from others. I hope you do find that meaning, in work or elsewhere.

mmm i didnt mean it as a whole like, youre sleeping on millions. But its not a far off idea that after 2 decades in a high paying career that you have some amount saved up where you might be able to retire or do something part time

#

if thats not the case then its fine, but i wouldnt tske what i said as some sort of diss or something

#

if youre able to take more time off then that would be a good step. Also, again are you not wanting to work period? looking for a new field?

#

or maybe do freelance, still bring in cash but more autonomy

#

#

Hm, do you know what you want? You're asking us, but do you know what you want? Established we need to work for a living still sadly , but def your experience and insight means you can have any opportunities you want imho

#

The signal I'm riding on at the moment is react, typescript,. I hear great things about go. You can do anything tho. I think.

#

You on teamblind?

#

Go is getting popular

#

I would say figure out what the "cutting edge" companies that want "experienced" developers are looking. For skillwise

#

I don't know if you are joking, but team blind is an app that is just people talking candidly about their jobs in the industry and compensation and trends

#

I haven't been "on the market" for a while but I feel relatively in the know, even if I ignore noise in my inbox

#

When I hear someone with your level of experience I think, I want to work with them

#

Yeah it's broken as fuck

#

#

You at a company rn?

#

Me neither

#

But I love people with 20+ years experience. It's a pretty cool number of years to be around in the industry

#

I don't even know what that means

You are not a noob, you're just lacking confidence in yourself. You've been broken down.
