#Self-taught developer with no prior experience in the field, would appreciate any feedback!

  • I've found it a bit difficult to quantify my points in my projects section mainly because there isn't a lot to quantify in them..
  • The Odin Project is technically a MOOC but I put Bootcamp to try and leverage that keyword. Additionally, you can see that I added The Odin Project as a previous experience & open-source contributions. I know it might be a bit unethical, but I'm not sure how else to stand out as a self-taught dev.

I'd appreciate any input on anything, thanks! (:

hey joey

#

theres a lot going on in the skills section, almost too much

#

debugging can be drop, command line/os can be dropped, u can put Node.js with frameworks, u have “optimization” there, that can be dropped

#

u say putting the odin project as experience is unethical and while thats like …. partially true the issue isnt really the fact that youre labelling it as experience, its more so nobody is gonna count it as experience regardless

#

having open source contribution is good enough on its own, theres really no real reason to try and dupe out a recruiter and make them think its real life work experience

#

softskills can be dropped. You say you have experience as a customer service rep, add THAT to your experience and show off soft skills through the job.

#

you’re def gonna need at least 1 more strong project to replace the CS50 course

#

also with the whole “(bootcamp)” thing, recruiters arent dumb. They know what the odin project is and they know its not really a bootcamp

#

in terms of ur OSC, u dont really list any languages/technologies u used to build said applications

#

u just said “best practices” which is pretty vague

Hey @drifting bloom I really appreciate your feedback! I'm going to make the necessary changes to my resume! Do you think adding experience unrelated to development is a good idea? Also, what is OSC?

osc = open source contributions

#

adding experience unrelated to development can help show off soft skills (communication, leadership, collaboration etc) and can also help let people know that u werent sitting on ur butt for however long and that u can actually hold a job
