#tech vs hft dev

I have two offers and it seems like a split path and I need some help deciding.

One offer is from an HFT fund (it is not exactly the household names people know like so I would say it is a tier below them). The role seems to be mainly c++ with emphasis on low-ish latency design.

The other offer is from a tech company (with poor-ish wlb). The role deals with c++ and python in their infra team.

I have around 1++ year of experience and would want to target my growth in skills. My current thoughts are that the HFT role is/ seems more interesting but I am terrified that it will stump my growth. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you decide?

Why do you think the HFT role will stump your growth

#

Low latency C++ will teach you a ton

#

I write pretty much only C++

#

So I don’t see the downside with the either role you named

hey from what I understand it would be 'micro' optimization in these shops vs 'macro' optimization in larger tech companies

#

probably not stump the growth but the trajectory seems different

Relative to all the things there are to do in tech, you are describing slightly different paths

#

It’s not like you are stuck and can’t possibly transition to something else if you want to do something different after a year or whatever in either role
