I graduated in May with a Bachelors of Computer Science and I was really looking for a SWE position. However, after 3 months of constant applying and several interviews, I ended up landing a fully remote gig as a network engineer. Only catch is, there is almost no coding. I'm wanting to stick around and learn some new things about networking and it's very possible that I may be able to move up within the company to a SWE position with in a year or so. I'm just wondering how hard it may be if I decide that this isn't for me and I really want to be coding. How should I keep my coding skills up-to-date? Is it generally possible for people to do this?
#How difficult is it to transition to a coding position from something else in the tech field?

“Is X possible?” The answer is almost always yes
Like unless it’s asking if you can fly or teleport
You have a degree in CS you can get a job coding, how to keep your skills up Is a good question though
I'm mostly trying to figure out how common/difficult it is to do. Like is it something that is pretty typical?
I mean people can pivot to some other area of software , I don’t see that being totally abnormal
If you wanna do it then go ahead!
I wouldn’t focus on how common or uncommon it is
Live your life
It's difficult to put any numbers to it. And different people have different experiences.
It'll be easier to do after a year of being a netadmin than after a decade. And it'll be easier for you as a cs grad than people with different degrees.
