Hey, so im a jr dev. My first role out of college. As any Jr dev would say, im kind of lost...but I feel like everytime im asking a question to someone its a burden. Sometimes I wont even get a response. (Only 4 of us in a team). My manager always says Ask ____ if you have any questions. Please reach out! But like I said, I get no response or I get a barebones response that doesnt help at all....Ill ask a question and theyll just send me a link to a GitHub of what standard the code should follow....not answering any question at all or tell me to read up about it online. Of course I've read up on it....why would one come to somebody with a question without prior research???

My JIRA tickets havent been updated in weeks....During my daily interviews my manager takes notes and everyone has access to them BESIDES ME. Ive been asking for perms for it for weeks now but its always "we will figure it out later, im busy" granted she is very busy but I feel like what im requesting is pretty important

It feels insulting and ive been looking for new positions granted ive only been working here for a month and a half. Am I overreacting or is something wrong?

they also want me to relocate to Cleveland Ohio....im 22 yrs old and I live with my family in NY.....no fucking shot

How long have you been working there? Did you get a proper introduction to the codebase? Were you assigned a dedicated mentor/buddy that you could reach out to?

#

What kind of questions do you ask, and do you really try to solve the problem beforehand, and include what you have tried when asking something? Do you tend to ask the same question over and over?

#

It's very possible you're simply working at a bad company, in that case not much can be done apart from doing your best or quitting. But we'd have to know a lot about your situation to answer that

#

Also, what kind of company is it? A big company? Startup?

Ive been working here for about a month and a half (started beginning of June) its a Fortune 500 company so I'd assume its pretty big...not a Big N haha But the questions I ask arent repetitive. For instance, I had a problem with my JRE env...build was failing...asked if anyone saw this before and it was a ghost town.

Another example could be me asking if I should use conditional rendering for something in React (we are moving legacy code over to newer stack) and got no response.

I really want to love this job but theyre making it hard. I feel excluded

#

If I was planning to leave this company, how would I go about telling that to new hire about my short time frame

You mean how to explain why you left so quickly? I'd be honest, without "talking shit" so to speak.

#

Maybe give some thought on how to avoid this situation again. It's not possible to guarantee it, but you can ask some questions during interviews to gauge what it will be like

You're doing the right things, so we just need to get them to be more effective.
Keep telling your manager that you don't have access, every day. Remind them that it inhibits your ability to be productive.
People frequently ask questions without doing prior research, so that's not an assumption. When you have a question, don't just ask it, include all the background that you've tried so they don't have to start at the beginning again.
If you're stuck on something, raise that in your daily standup, if you have one. If you continue to be stuck, raise it with your manager and ask who would be a good person to help with that. Then book time on that person's calendar for them to stop doing what they're doing, get on a video call with you, and work through it.
