I am expecting an offer soon from a big tech company. I am currently SDE2 in my current company and targeting senior level position in this new company. I am pretty confident that I can get senior level position based on my interviews but I am afraid that they may try to lowball me to SDE 2 position after they know my current level. I am sure recruiter is going to ask this information when she calls me next week. What do I say when she asks my current level? Just refusing to tell your current level may be interpreted as SDE2 automatically. So I am not sure how to move forward here.

"I'm looking for L4 positions" (or whatever)
That conversation would happen at the intro call though. By this point they've already done several amounts of level-setting (recruiter call, tech screen, on-sites). If they down-level you it's because you didn't pass the bar for the level you were interviewing for
Do you think it would hurt if I tell them my current level in the company?
