||Kamek got curious and turned Bowser's favorite piano into a monster, then he gets angry and he is going to tell the heroes about Kamek and his power, and possibly a weakness||

||heck, maybe temporarily joining the good guys and helping could give him a better chance of having peach loving him, its the PERFECT comeback plan!||

||of course, he will only tell it to peach and not Mario, because he still hates Mario||

||Mario movie 3 should have Wario as the biggest villian||

||legit, when i saw Mario & Luigi punch Bowser back down to Brooklyn, and proceed to do a M&L inspired Bros Attack||

||although that does make me wonder, even though Spike is probably grateful that M&L saved Brooklyn from Bowser, he does have a very bully-ish nature to him towards the Bros in a "im better than them" kind of way||

||i would like that in the sequel, Spike probably would somehow getting dragged into this whole mushroom kingdom mess, and somehow ends up being affected by magic and turn into Wario, maybe, idk||

||i mean if Mario & Luigi have parents and other members, i dont doubt that one of Spike's family members is infact Wario||

||although, Wario has elf ears & elf shoes in his design, so maybe its a reverse origin story like Peach, Peach was from the human world that ended up being raised as princess, and Wario couldve been from the mushroom kingdom that end up being raised in the human world as adopted||

||Spike is probably his cousin and works in Brooklyn as a construction worker, and knows about the Mario Bros, he kinda has envy for them as well||

||and he probably tells it all to his cousin Wario, and Wario ends up having an envy for the Mario Bros too||

Back from seeing the movie, 7.5/10

Pacing is the main issue and this is actually a case of me wanting a movie to be two hours instead of it being trimmed down

pacing is the only thing that kinda had its issue with the movie

but aside from that, everything else is pretty good

||yeah cause there was a scene where the cheep cheep is kissing mario, in the trailer, it went for longer with Mario screaming and wanting to get it off with Peach pulling it off his face, in the movie, they cut the rest of that scene out.||

||yeah, there was a bit of awkward change ups leading to the movie's release trailer by trailer, maybe they really did wanted to go for like an 1 hour long movie, but was told to have around 90 minutes near the final stages||

||honestly tho, given that it is Illumination, the awkward pacing is not that strange to a studio like this, but it could be better||

I was honestly expecting ||the superstar power to run out right when Mario and Luigi deal the final blow||

What we got was still good ||it felt like a proper Bros attack||

||im happy they got to go all in on the M&L RPG inspired combos on Bowser, that was awesome||

the Mario movie works on a similar wavelength to the Sonic Movie, despite the fact they have two different goals

which i kinda find it funny, because even now, Mario & Sonic still after all this time, having all these games, and different motives & goals, they still are being compared coincidentally

Sonic felt like they wanted to make a family movie ft sonic and Jim Carrey

Mario movie feels like “we have over 30 years of history as ammo and we’re gonna use over 30 years of history as ammo”

Also funny enough ||ice peach which has technically never happened before because ice flower and playable peach were never in the same game||

i would actually like to throw a bit of an opinion, but i think the references of Sonic is on a same level with Mario but the difference being is that its not in your face blatant, its very subtle, hidden around, and i dont mean the games, there are very hidden easter eggs from other sonic stuff that some people might not pick up

||they called the tanooki suit the raccoon suit which instantly killed my hype in the movie 0/10||

I’m not a sonic fan for one so if there were a lot of Easter eggs I most likely didn’t pick up on them

But also sonic was grounded in real life

There’s not a lot they can reference without breaking laws of reality

everyone be agreeing that illumination movies have a big problem with their stories and writing, but suddenly that's totally fine for mario, because it looked and sounded like the games and referenced a bunch of stuff

Lots of people have pointed out the cool references, I would also like to add that while I wish Martinet had more cameos, the two that he did have were pretty good

Obviously the ||guy dressed as the old Mario design doing his normal Mario voice|| was pretty funny, but he also played ||Mario’s dad|| in the movie, which I thought was a very fitting character for him to play

Also very similar to the Last of Us HBO show where ||Ellie’s game VA played Ellie’s mom in the show||

I genuinely think they made ||Mario's and Peach's relationship justice in the movie||

||they managed to keep the dynamic of Mario & Peach intact of having feelings for one another, but subtle and kinda friendly||

||i guess thats the kind of person Mario is, he wants to leave an impression, he cares for his brother Luigi, and genuinely wants to make a name for himself, even when someone like his dad once saw him as a bit of a overambitious loser, but he changed his opinion later on||

||i do like how Mario & Luigi are kinda depicted like end of teen/young adults in their 20s, having parents and other siblings, it kinda opens up the Mario family backstory||

||its funny because even tho, having M&L have a family shown is kinda risky on paper, it adds a lot more development to the brothers backstory while still keeping what makes them iconic, they pulled it off pretty good||

The story was to be as expected. They're of the same depth as any Mario game. I don't know what people were expecting.
The animation and soundtrack were nicely made. I liked the seamless musical transitions between the familiar tracks.
I watched the movie with French VA, so I can't comment on how well the English VA did.
There were some funny moments in the movie.
The shear amount of references in the movie did not disappoint. ||It's good to see our buddy Chunky Kong getting some screen time.||
A bit disappointed on a few elements, like ||key Mario characters like Yoshi or Bowser Jr. not appearing in the movie, but I think the announcement of a potential sequel may resolve this||

Or, as mentioned by others, that one Luma in the movie gets us into space and that's where we find Rosalina

Perhaps Luigi visits a ghost house and E.Gadd helps him and his brother out with his gadgets, including the F.L.U.D.D. and that's where they also meet Cappy

The possibilities are endless

They could also create an original story with original characters and I'd be fine with it too

I wouldn't mind if later on they adapt that movie into a video game and incorporate those original characters into the Mario Party, Mario Kart and Mario Sports games

So they would make a sequel that ends up adding nothing

He still approved them, but he wasn't involved in the design process. Perhaps the better candidate for that would be Yoshiaki Koizumi, or the art director for the Mario games.

after having to rewatch the movie multiple times, it just hit me that with that training course that both Peach & Mario did, it really shows the big difference in potential between them, especially considering earlier in the film that Mario was doing parkour in Brooklyn while Luigi was trying to follow, even despite trying & failing constantly, Mario managed to almost clear that course much faster in just 24 hours than what took Peach several years of her life to finally finish it.

and he managed to survive a giant beatdown from Donkey Kong, he just kept going, then later on, he gets beaten up by Bowser in Brooklyn, but he still kept going, Mario just refuses to give up, no matter how many times he gets beat down, and then once he reunites with Luigi, he finally gets payback with beating up Bowser

Considering there was no origin story following the Mario “canon” ie Mario rescues Pauline from donkey kong

you know its sad that a Mario Movie made Kid Icarus relevant again in 11 years

i get that Sakurai was occupied with Smash & everything, but now that he's all freed up from that, it would be cool if he took a shot at something Kid Icarus related again

the fact that they revived Foreman Spike to be in this movie is a huge creative choice for this movie, he was like the original Mario rival before Wario and Waluigi were created, so thats cool

it just hit me that Spike is probably going to become more popular than them thanks to this movie lol i still love Wario & Waluigi tho

I have my takes and i understand the wanting for Kid Icarus to be memorized, especially with a sequel to Uprising but i can also somewhat see why the company aint to keen on the idea

But i want Nintendo to surprise people like usual

But a TV Show/Anime with uprising's Pit, Palu and Viridi would be sick

it would make up for how he was basically kinda put as the goal in the Mario movie, really show his potential more as an independent person, we saw that a little bit

that would be a nice parallel, Mario saves Luigi in Mario's movie, now Luigi has to save Mario in his own movie

that would be a huge jump that Mario & Luigi just started as a regular plumbers in brooklyn to going to freaking OUTER SPACE, all in just two movies

Xenoblade is already a series in itself. There are so many cutscenes in this franchise. Just that one sequence of cutscenes in Xenoblade 3 alone (||the one from Chapter 5 to 6||) is already one hour long.

I also agree with these franchises being handled by other studios. They all have heavier plots, which Illumination wouldn't handle very well. I'd argue Splatoon would join that list too, due to the heavy lore in that franchise.

out of all the characters that i thought of potentially seeing in this movie, Foreman Spike was not at all what i thought, thats so cool to see a super obscure character getting to be in a big movie like this

kinda makes me want to re-listen to the Smash Bros ultimate remix of Wrecking Crew now lol

it was also nice to see Pauline again in this movie, she really has come a long way since the DK arcade, both her & Spike are really tied with Mario's origins, so seeing them be in this movie was awesome

can i just say for as about as a wild choice that putting Chris Pratt as Mario is, he actually delivered some pretty good takes here? im impressed, he's like a third place behind classic Brooklyn Mario & the iconic italian Mario
