To expand on what I said in stream chat, I was fighting Ochette chap 3 final boss and like after breaking it I hit it for like 50k with Drastic Measures and it didn't die and then it started going ham with all these status effects and I thought it was still a ways away so I was trying to stabalize first meanwhile it was slowly healing and when I finally stabalized I hit it kinda hard with something don't remember and it just died and I was like "Wait it was that close to dying the whole time???? lmao"

I realized later that bosses can survive lethal hits if there's scripted dialogue because I hit the miniboss before Hikari's final with another big hit from Drastic Measures and then he just sorta died to the next hit

ok so this? I never paid attention to it really (and it also probably doesn't help that I did a lot of the endgame story content in one sitting) but apparently as you progress towards the end of the game ||the four flames on the loading screen icon gradually start to go out. Not sure if it's tied to final chapter progression or crossed paths progression but it seems that by the time you begin the final chapter all 4 will be extinguished, and they return when you defeat vide|| < final chapter spoilers

I've been trying to stay on top of keeping my party somewhat ready for the recommended levels of each chapter but at this point I'm out of side dungeons to do and I am not really in the mood to grind

I think gear matters more but levels can be important too

That said, I tried to keep a core team and just cycle in the last member as needed

Technically, levels are not that important if you know how to do efficient damage and handle bosses. Everything is definitely doable without the required level and if you see a boss where you really struggle, then it might be a sign to level up a bit

8. Temenos: Still do not really care for him as a character, overall boring chapters. ||Crick||'s death was a surprise for sure though. Considering his story seems to be very lore critical given all the mentions of ||Vide|| I wish I was enjoying it more 🫤
7. Agnea: I appreciate that her route seems to have a little more direction—piecing together the Song of Hope is kind of cool. Very excited for her dance battle vs. Dolcinea
6. Ochette: I still love her but I was kind of hoping she would kind of develop over her journey around the world—her character is still very much "mmmmm meat....." and not much else. I also really don't care for the supporting characters in her chapters.
5. Partitio: my beloved capitalist is still a cutie patootie. I like his plan with the steam engine but I hope he also gets to knock Roche down a peg or two
4. Castti: Her chapter 3 is overall the most memorable chapter in the game and I really like her as a character. I don't quite understand how she survived ||the rain while the rest of her squad didn't. Malaya packed the antidote with her on the boat, but Castti didn't actually consume it?|| Also a bit confused about ||Trousseau—he seemed chill and then got evil offscreen with no warning?|| Hopefully chapter 4 explains this because I don't think it was presented well
3. Hikari: Yeah he's still a flat character but the vibes in his story are pretty good, I love gathering an army against Mugen
2. Osvald: Oftentimes his dialogue is like how a fourth-grader would write a smart character ("no no, your formulae are all wrong" "according to my calculations" etc.) but I do like his contrast between stoic academic and loving family man. Harvey ||stripping his daughter away|| was a cruel move and I'm curious to see how he deals with that

Hello I am in need of help

I would like some help on who should I start with in Octopath 1. Should I do one playthrough and do every chapter the characters have to offer? Or should I need multiple playthroughs for an efficient run?
I've seen Tressa, H'annit and Alfin are best to start but also seen Cyrus or Therion as other options.

I started with H'annit myself and that was pretty good.

The only quirk about who you start with is that you won't be able to switch them out of your party until you finish their individual story

You will be able to play through everybody's story in one run and I highly recommend switching your party around for each chapter to keep everyone at a roughly equal level

Before that I should mention this is my second time playing. The first time I completed Ophilia, H'aanit, Therion and Alfyn's first chapters. Dropped it so far there. I was finding the battle system a bit frustrating or hard to get used to. Also finding enemies randomly like old pokemon style was a bit annoying.

All that changed a bit now that I am getting more party members as progress goes. Now that I understand the mechanics and whatnot I am enjoying the battles a bit. But still prefer to avoid them sometimes, so I just hit flee (rng screws me sometimes tho)

Story is still as intriguing as the first time so that's good for me

same for the music. Is the biggest quality of it atm

Tbh it might've been the start of my first attempt. Started with Ophilia, and H'aanit and Therion were the most fun chapters. Second attempt gave me interest on Olberic and Primrose too so that's great

Ophilia, Tressa, and Alfyn are not bad, is just there isn't a mystery or an issue to fix plotline

I have been on another long hiatus once again... I did Cyrus chapter 1 tho. Currently in Tressa's chapter 2

I am having difficulties to motivate myself to play this game

In the first one they made grinding almost mandatory

The scholar passive that makes encounters less likely is good for getting to the new towns with minimal encounters so you can buy decent equipment

I believe Tressa's chapter 2 boss is just ridiculously hard despite being level 22

As soon as I got to the Jobs mechanics, battles are starting to feel hella fun

One small little detail I noticed, which I absolutely love, is that every ch boss has a little build up to decisive battle. Pumps me up every time.

As I’ve mentioned a couple times I’ve been playing through octopath 2

I’ve hit a point where my main party is high level but the rest of my party is low level so I don’t know whether to grind my low level party members or not

I've been told, at least in Octopath 1, to maintain your whole party at the same levels. I would assume Octopath 2 is mostly the same

up to you tbh. Octo 2 is a lot more forgiving in its level curve and if you want to focus one party first and then the other 4 you can do that but it's not as much of a grind to keep everyone up to speed as it was in ot1

obviously your starting character will always get overleveled compared to everyone else but not much to be done about that

that said you will want everyone up to speed eventually

What’s the best way to grind then, trying to fish for Caits or just doing normal fights?

I did a bit of both - if you have access to extra experience scholar passive and life in the shadows thief passive the exp boost from those stack which makes even normal enemies give decent exp

could also do bewildering grace shenanigans but honestly midgame that's more trouble than it's worth

Night fights with the exp boost and jp boost are the way to go imo

Traveling only while it's night made my party extremely over leveled by the mid late game

So much so that I had to stop using those skills and traveling at night to have any semblance of challenge

Right now I’ve been mostly cruising through the game while being somewhat underleveled for most of the chapters I’ve been hitting

The only thing that gave me trouble was Partitio 3 but I feel like that boss is just stupid anyway

I've realized that later on in the game the difficulty spikes are a bit more forgiving. Sure there is still a bit of grind but with a full party of 8 and managed to get the first 8 jobs of every character makes battles more enjoyable.

I can still feel like a lot of strategy is required tho, even if I have all of these "perks". But it feels very good, since I've gotten the hang of it. Game is definitely fun now.
