I recently took my nephew on one of those museum train rides and noticed that the N&W caboose they used had both a whistle and what looked to be a valve tied into the air brakes along the back railing. The whistle didn't look to be much of anything, maybe some galvanized pipe with a hole in it or something, but it made a fun little single tone. The brake pipe was 100% just a valve on the end of a pipe used to dump the air if they really needed to, but i thought it would be nice to have those on the in game caboose so that you can stop the train from the rear if you're moving in the yard, without having to fiddle with getting down to flip the cock. I know the gage inside the caboose also looks like it is missing a handle, but right on the back rail would be nice.

Oh yeah, the conductor's valve. It has a button for a little whistle (So it can run in front and still be FRA compliant) and an air brake handle. The caboose does have a conductor's valve, just not all of it is there. The gauge and the piping are there on the vanilla caboose, but the handles and button valve for the whistle are gone (then again, that may be due to the fact the vanilla caboose isn't in the best of conditions)

Wait a minute... are you referring to a monkey tail?

#

This is a monkey tail.

No I dont beleive so. Im kicking myself for not just snapping a quick Pic, but they seemed permanent

#

They were on the outside though, both placed right beside each other

#

Well I'll be damned. I guess it is. You can see the permanent pipe i referred to about where Mrs. Claus is and then there sure enough is a monkeys tail hung near the handbrake

I think the Monkey Tail could be a gadget that is designed to be installed in the caboose, as seen in the picture, and potentially tie in with the Passenger Multiple Unit mod so the universal control stand can be used to blow the whistle.
