Think I'm saying this right: Inside of my Dashboard there's a View used for controlling the state of something using external data (sensor data, procured from MQTT). I want to see this grouping of cards as a quick means of influencing the behavior of the sensor that provides the Gauge data in the first place.

There you go! There's also some great custom cards for grids and other groupings.

A container is more related to virtualisation and docker.

ah yea maybe one of these days I'll get in to custom cards and templates but didn't want to bite off more than I could chew at this point

Sure, I'm familiar with Container in that context, and those are the only kinds of results I was finding when searching for what I thought I read - but not what I wanted.
