My best advice is to not rely on mdns

I could manage that at one location, but at the other I have no control over the router and it doesn't support static IPs very well. Also, pretty sure mDNS is required for Apple TV, Chromecast, etc?

I may see about running the plugin-dns container directly on another host for debugging.

Yeah, some stuff does rely on mdns unfortunately

But for anything i can i use DHCP reservations and let DHCP propegate DNS

this router is so bad it doesn't propagate DHCP hostnames 😭
