#ngnix and local dns
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
a service running on port 53 is dns
mdns is multicast
and you have no power over mdns
I am checking pi hole
Not sure how to create a local domain with it. WHat would you use as a dns server for home
Is there a way to check what service runs on port 53
if you run pihole it runs on 53
same as your router
set everything in your router to .lan or .home (whatever you prefer) and adjust pihole accordingly
then you can use your .lan or .home as your local domain
there is not much to it
just don‘t use .local anywhere in those settings
.local will always be administered by mdns
that is one trash router then
you can still use the pihole as dhcp so it does not need the router at all
and disable router dhcp
yes
It sounds radical
to me
I don't see away to disable dhcp on the router either
IN any case thanks for the help. I will do some more research
bye
there is a trick to these cheap isp routers too
set the dhcp range to 1 host only
leave the rest of the range to hand out by the pi
Interesting, once I do that will nginx see the host
Will I have to reconfigure wifi switches, rokun hue bridge, lutron bridge, etc..?
Also my tplink mesh requires at least 20 ip dns entries in the range it will not set the range to 192.168.68.2 -192.168.68.2 it needs .20 or 20 numbers
